Yesterday, this news story caught traction on the sub even though it didn't catch media attention. Here is a link to the data the news story is reporting on. We have made some waves so far in the financial world. Well this, this is a fucking tsunami. I am actually in a little disbelief and I know I shouldn't be. This is concrete proof that the government is operated by the banks. We've always known this... but this is proof. Liquidity crisis in 2019? You mean at the exact same time Covid 19 began rising in China? Yeah.

I mean, we should be numb to this right? I mean... we "KNOW" the levels of fuckery going on. We know that this reaches into the deepest depths of our government. It is probably deep enough to come right to our hometowns in a "trickle down" fashion. But still... why the fuck are we not doing anything about it?

The kind of systemic change that is going to be required cannot happen through a chatroom. And DC is completely under control from the banks. So WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? u/Loopring? Any ideas? u/DeepFuckingValue?

Oh yeah... HOLD

I am a 53 year old making $126,000 a year, living in Northern Virginia and working as an supervisory analyst for a Federal agency. Update from last year

Link to previous diary https://www.reddit.com/r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE/comments/ko65av/i_am_a_52_year_old_making_116000_a_year_living_in/

Just a note I think my totals for my retirement accounts were off last year. This year is correct.

Happy New Year. 2021 was better in some ways, but it was still a really difficult year personally for me. I am a 53 year old single female with no children who works for a US government agency as a supervisory analyst. I have been with the agency for over 16 years.

The biggest change this year was a change of positions within my agency. This summer I applied and accepted a supervisor job that does not directly supervise people on a daily basis. It is more like a program management position. The change from being in one place for a long time to another division has basically gone very well and I like my new position. It was strange to learn the boundaries of the new place when I had questions. I like my new coworkers and they are supportive and collaborative which is nice. My boss is hands off unless we want him to be involved. I am not so thrilled with executive management in my new division and some of their decisions, but that does not affect me on a daily basis. I did get an increase in my salary when I became a supervisor. The money is nice, but I really took the position because I needed a radical change at work. I was getting very unmotivated and burned out in my own way after a lot of personal things that went on in late 2020 and in the spring of 2021.

Section One: Assets and Debt

Retirement Balance $629,922 split between TSP, Traditional Rollover IRA and Roth IRA. Investments are about 60% Traditional and 40% Roth. I got there by saving from every paycheck.

Equity $190,000. I continue to pay an extra $400 towards principal each month and a lump sum of $1500 twice a year when I get my two extra paychecks. I have approximately $37,000 left on the mortgage. I am still on track to pay it off in early 2024

Savings account balance of multiple accounts $58,000. This includes about $15,000 designated as my emergency fund. I also keep $4,000 liquid in my Roth that could be used for emergencies. I recently bought $5,000 worth of I-bonds from my emergency fund to get more interest at least while inflation is high.

Checking account balance $2100

Credit card debt $0. I pay my accounts off every month

Student loan debt $0.

Section Two: Income

Income Progression: I had an increase from last year

Recruiting is BS. I keep getting 'recruited' for a job that I am trying to hire

I am a supervisory psychologist @ a large hospital and we always in the market for psychologists/psychiatrists. Our HR department is actually does fairly well when it comes to hiring new BH and medical providers.

2-3 months ago, they decided to start contracting/outsourcing their recruiting. Since that time, I get contacted at least 2-3x a week by recruiters for positions I am trying to hire. Several of the psychologists in my department are being 'recruited' for positions they already have. The contacts are from multiple sources all of whom have job titles 'Director of Recruiting for X.

I am used to the emails/phone calls from recruiters, but it has become far most common in the last year. But I have never experienced anything like that the last 3 months. Between being 'recruited' for positions I am hiring and other organizations, I am now being contacted everyday. I have shut down my linkedin account and removed my contact info from the various professional organizations of which I am a member (which is just ridiculous that I have to do this).

How are these contractors even paid? Is it completely based on commission? Is there any research indicating they are even effective? Do they even read anything on someone's profile or linkedin account?

My hospital pays fairly well, has great benefits and has solid practicum/internship/residency programs. As such, while we are always needing people, we have several good pipelines. For example, I did my internship/residency here, which led to permanent position and now I have been here for 12 years and am head to department. I always felt the best recruiting strategy is just take care of your people and make sure HR doesn't f*** everything.

Sorry the rant, but in the last year the deluge of 'recruiters' has become ridiculous.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

My former employers lost their client (and business) because of me

A few years back in 2018 I had decided to switch employers. I worked from home as a chat support specialist and eventually a supervisor for a major tech company. I had decided to switch to a small time customer support agency that was just starting a new chat team. They had better pay and benefits, because they only had a small number of employees compared to the former.

The description of the position I was to be hired for was another salary based supervisory role for their brand new chat team for the client. I'd basically be doing the same things as my previous job, but also spearheading this small department, while simultaneously training other co-workers with zero experience in chat support. This was going extremely well and our client was ecstatic at the results of the new chat program. They had personally sent me an email over my progress. The company I left was, and still is, known world wide to have the friendliest and professional customer support out of any other company. And so it was easy to apply what I learned to this new position.

After about two months of doing this the person I directly reported to, the regional supervisor, was retiring. Our new regional came in, and was friendly at first, but decided that he didn't want to waste his time on chat, and directed me to phone support. Which was not in my job description, nor what i was hired for by any means. He cited that the client was unhappy with the results, which was in stark contrast to what they had told me directly. Even after forwarding him the email, he was still not doing anything about it.

So, I complied. It took just 2 days for the client to have reached out to me, personally. After explaining to them the situation, they were livid. My new regional had lied to me about his contact with the client, and had essentially ignored our clients attempt to contact him about this issue. I had continued to work in the supervisory role for phones until the first quality review of my employees came up. For team leads and direct call center employees both, this is where I review their interactions and grade them based off their strengths and weaknesses.

Our regional wanted me to even include the chat support team who were neither hired or trained for phones. He refused to give them training. On every single employee who was hired for chat support, i had filed all of them as unable to be completed, and in my notations, I included that this is not the position they were hired or trained f

Honeywell Silent Knight Programming help!

Hey all! This is my first installation and programming of a Honeywell Silent Knight system. We are adding three extender panels and three SLC extender cards to an existing system. Everything has been going smoothly so far with one, unfortunately major, exception.

The fire Marshall of the county I'm working in currently is requesting all duct detectors be set to supervisory, which makes sense, don't want the FD coming out every time those ducts have a false alarm (by her reasoning) We have relays installed with them to control the Air Handler Unit Shutdown, a simple Normally Closed and common connection from the AHU shutdown wire to our relay, SLC from relay to detector, detector to next device in line, just normal wiring.

The AHU will shut down on normal alarm from a Maunal Pull or smoke detector being triggered. They will not trigger when a duct detector sets off under supervisory however. All the settings for the relays are default from the Auto JumpStart Programming, except the point name.

Anyone have any clues? I tried contacting SK Tech Support but wasn't able to get connected today. Thanks in advance!

Edit: also, our strobes are out of sync from the existing system. My boss contacted SK and they weren't even sure how to fix it if I remember correctly, so maybe one of yall have an idea?

I'll take any other advice, tips, etc., yall can offer too! I have so much still to learn

Surprisingly shiny spine and my childish FIL

As stated in previous posts, my JNFIL is an alcoholic. Both of my in-laws have had issues with drugs and alcohol for as long as DH(31) can remember. Also, probably worth mentioning, we live in a completely different state than in-laws.

JNFIL has a pickup truck that is 30yo and he does zero maintenance on it (like it probably hasn't had an oil change in over a decade). He doesn't have a driver's license because of multiple DUIs but continues to drive illegally. He and DH had put the truck into DHs name back when DH was a teenager so that the truck could still be registered and insured. (For the record I was not ok with this from the moment I found out about this arrangement about 4ish years ago. It's stupid and unreasonably risky.) Well, last week, the truck finally died and is not repairable.

Now JNFILs girlfriend (GF) has an old vehicle that was left to her by a recently deceased relative. She wants to gift it to JNFIL. GF called DH because they want to continue with the same arrangement as before. When DH asked me my opinion, I said if she wants him to be able to continue to drive illegally, she should take all the risk and register the vehicle in her name. DH agreed. He said he's been talking to a lawyer we know about it and doesn't like that if JNFIL causes any damages while driving in a vehicle that is in his name, he'd be liable.

He told the GF that he didn't want to and she should take care of it if that is what she wants. Well, shocked Pikachu face she doesn't want to take the risk. JNFIL called a few days later to push the issue. DH explained why he was saying no. He explained that he had never been very comfortable with the idea but had gone along with it as a child because he felt guilty and felt its what a good son was obligated to do. He wasn't willing to put our finances at risk now that he actually has assets to lose (like our house) and a family to care for (I'm 38 weeks pregnant).

He also explained that he was even less inclined to put himself at risk due to JNFILs continued irresponsible behavior. JNFIL swears that he only drives to be able to go to work and emergencies. We know that is not true because last year he was arrested at a traffic stop around 11 at night because he was "giving a friend a ride home" (somehow he got out of that). He also swears that he "never" drinks and drives anymore. DH called him out on the lies, detailing the times he has caught him in the act because he calls DH while driving and is obviously slur

Burned out AZ teacher is trying to decide between getting a nursing BSN, masters in social work, or masters in counseling. Help! Any advice from anyone in those professions? Are there ex-teachers out there make one of those switches?

I can't do teaching anymore. I am good at it and love the kids but the expectations for my job are getting so much higher while the pay is not. It is so unreasonable what is expected out of one person. I also am not supported by my admin at all. I have had so many horrible situations this year and feel helpless. I cry all the time after school.

Luckily, I saw this coming and joined the Air Force Reserves a couple years ago so I can use their Tuition Assistance to help pay for another degree. (I work on fighter jets and am not able to switch to nursing or SW in case you are wondering.)

Counseling or SW (I think I would eventually want to be a LSCW) is the most interesting to me. I think the classes are right up my alley and I have always had an interest in counseling techniques. I am really good at getting kids and parents to open up and feel comfortable with me. I have never had a problem with parents and have made friends with a lot of them. I think counseling kids or working with parents somehow would be awesome. Wilderness therapy sounds cool too one day.

Nursing is appealing because I like making people feel comfortable and am a bit of a health nut myself. I like active jobs and body stuff doesn't bother me.

So I am still in debt from my bachelors and it hasn't gone down because AZ pays so low for teaching and my interest was nuts. I haven't always been the most financially savvy person either when it comes to student loans.

Nursing seems so much better financially. Also, I like the idea of working 3 12-14 hour shifts a week (I don't doubt its a really tough shift though!). I am a creative/artsy type so I guess I would miss that part being in a job.

I am super scared about pursuing counseling or SW, though I want to, because of how I hear the pay is similar to teachers. I know it gets better in private practice but isn't that after you finally get all your supervisory hours done? Like 4 years after you start?! I am scared of feeling as burned out and unsupported/appreciated as I do now.

With any of my choices I will only pay about 6,000 out of pocket since my military Tuition Assistance helps and I would only choose a community college for the nursing program or online universities that match the Tuition Assistance for counseling or SW.

Grrrr I have a big decision. I just want to come out of this with a job where I am happy, don't feel like I'm treading water to survive and I could support a dependent if I needed to one day.

Any advice or e

looking for advice on whether to accept job offer

So I was just offered an NPS job in a supervisory role, where I would be in charge of a few seasonal field crews and managing a large budget with a grant program. It's a great offer, but I'm super scared that I'm not qualified (I knew it was a huge stretch when I applied and truly didn't expect to get through the process)...I didn't lie in my application, and was honest in the interview in *several* questions about things that would be integral to the job that I have no experience in (managing a large budget? no. knowledge about specific tools/chemicals the crews use on the daily? no. supervising, including hiring/firing and disciplinary actions for lots of people? no. writing up work plans for multiple crews? no.) Either they are hiring me for my 'potential', or they had a really, really thin applicant pool and are just hoping I can come up to speed. I feel guilty about feeling this way because I know it's an incredible offer on paper and I don't want to take that for granted, I'm just terrified about being in way over my head. If I take it, I know I'll work really hard and it's really important to me to be the kind of supervisor who has their team's backs, but yall I'm freaking out.

Does anyone here have experience with taking a giant leap like this in the park service and have any tips on whether I should say yes to the offer or not? Or do any seasonal folks have an idea as to whether someone so green can earn the respect of the crew or is it a little hopeless? Thanks everyone.

No merit increases for 2022

We were literally just told this by our companies CEO. We’re in the top 3 employers in our state. This man literally sat there with a straight face and told us how proud he was that everyone got β€œat least” (aka just) a 2% raise in August of last year, and that should suffice.

When someone asked about COL adjustments (which I think should be ~5.9% this year?) he said they were β€œstill assessing the budget”. When he was asked about retention bonuses/incentives we got the same response. This is a healthcare company. My dept has been short staffed even before COVID and now I’m doing the work of literally five people, and in a supervisory role, for under $20/hr.

I’m so tired of listening to these people who make literally over $100/hr tell us we’re not worth 5%, and 2% was generous.

And the icing on the cake? Someone asked about tuition assistance to further their career *within the company/help with staffing shortages * - they were told β€œwe’re looking into programs to help employees make good decisions and manage their debts appropriately”

Planning on asking my boss for a large (but warranted) pay increase at my next review. Interested to see how th at goes.
