A list of puns related to "Sloop Of War"
I've tried out a number of different ships, and the Sloop of War seems to be the best. It's fast and maneuverable, can sail rather close to the wind, carries a fair amount of cargo, and can fire more guns than some of the tiny ships.
Is there a better kind of ship for a pirate? Am I missing something about how to use the other ships?
Ye seamen and ye landsmen all,
Ye mothers and widows too:
Attend unto my story,
About the Hornet's crew.
--
--
She sail'd from New York harbour,
Bound to the Spanish Main
There to protect our commerce,
But ne'er returned again.
She convoy'd many vessels,
And was the pirate's dread;
Still more than death they hated
The Hornet's boats, 'tis said.
For NORRIS, her commander,
Would send his gallant men,
To scour the coast by sea and land,
And find each pirate's den.
Our merchants they protected,
And their little gain
They snatch'd, with brave exertion,
From the hands of Spain.
Our merchants they protected,
And would have brought them home,
But, ah! her brave commander,
Knew not the Hornet's doom.
On the tenth day of September,
She off Tampico lay;
And many well remember,
The gale that blew that day.
She had to slip her cables,
She had to put to sea;
That deadly blast, it is the last,
Brother, I'll hear from thee.
The widow's heart is breaking,
Hope no more can charm;
The mother's heart is aching,
And love, why her alarm.
She sees the proud ship sinking,
Beneath the hungry wave;
Her love death's cup is drinking,
She shrieks, but cannot save.
"My Henry was on board of her,"
The weeping mother cries;
"He was my youngest, dearest son,
The one I most did prize.
He was too proud to stoop or crawl,
To men of low degree;
He lost his fortune on the land,
And sought it on the sea.
But he is dead, the gallant boy,
And why should I repine?
There's many a mother lost a son,
As proud and fair as mine.
And many a blooming youthful bride,
With her infant at her breast,
Sheds o'er the orphan child a tear,
And feels as much distress'd."
The Hornet's lost, the good and brave
Are in the ocean deep;
No arm was nigh her crew to save,
She sank! and thousands weep.
In Congress now we must repose,
Our only hope, to gain,
A remedy, though small, for those,
Who lost all on the main.
Partner and I began the night committed to improving our PvP, skull fort up on login. We supply up and head out. We had no idea the ride we were in for. Blasted their ship upon arrival, then one of them played guerilla while my partner looted some and I covered with sniper fire. They got on our ship with powder and almost got us but we recovered. Looted all that was valuable and sped away. Sloop returned and spotted us on the run with the loot, intercepted us and chase ensued around Old Faithful. Both ships had great cannon accuracy and it became a war of attrition and seamanship. Lots of boarding attempts from both ships that were good but non lasting. I did get to slip off my boat, grab onto their ladder, hop up and blast the helmsman and drop anchor, but they had just laid into our ship hard and my partner was 100% on damage control and couldn't come about to lay on cannons. Had my partner do laps around the island next, I jumped off the prow with loot while they pursued. Stashed the stronghold chest and skull on one of the little rocky outcrops that surround the island. Partner sails off and I watch the enemy redirect and head out opposite. I mermaid back, help repair up because it's all he could do to bail water because he was out of planks. We sail back to the little side isle around Old Faithful and recover the stashed loot. Three hours later and buckets of stress, best night ever. I was so into it that I forgot to drink my margarita. Cheers.
One of the other sailors had a name that began with PTd.... I think. My pirate hat is off to you, my friend. Great game.
I'm so sorry. When my wife asked what there is to do in this game, I said "oh! You make your own fun."
She is now running full speed into other sloops, not shooting or trying to sink them for treasure, but because 'tag' is "making your own fun".
Rare, you've created a monster.
In a two player crew, neither player has the ability to brig one a another. outside of the slim chance of clipping through the ship, you cannot access the inside of the cage. If you did manage to somehow get inside, you would need to KYS or scuttle to get out, making it not only a waste of space, but a potential game breaker. Could anyone shed light on this for me? Cheers.
It's the middle of the afternoon in late April. A soft blanket of snow is coming down over the land, and as I sit here toiling at work on a Saturday, my mind is drawn away to tropical shores, mysterious waters... and the dreams of running my own food truck of the deep out on the Sea of Thieves.
The premise is simple: Once the SoT Anniversary Update has launched, stock up a sloop with all manner of fruit, fish and meats, then set out across the waves to sell food to hungry pirates...
Ahoy there! The crew of the Sea of Feasts® food sloop will take your orders from the gunwales, while our overworked and slightly sauced cook mans the stove below decks. Enjoy a cup of grog from the comforts of your ship, or join our crew in a jaunting shanty while your hot, savory dish makes its voyage from our kitchen to your mouth. Pay what you can in chests, trinkets or skulls, or donate food, livestock or other supplies as thanks for a hearty meal prepared with love... for the sea!
The Sea of Feasts® food sloop fleet is currently hiring, and franchise options are available! Menus and pricing are subject to change. Nutritional information is anyone's guess.
The new additions of fishing, hunting and cooking coming to the game are going to offer up a lot of great, diverse gameplay opportunities, and I just think that having a sloop crew sail around roleplaying like an oceangoing food truck would be both helpful and entertaining to a lot of people. Sure, it seems like being open and friendly to other crews often ends in conflict or abuse nowadays, but I feel it's in those slim few cases where players offer, accept and repay acts of kindness and camaraderie that the most impact - in a positive way - can be made with the community as a whole.
I'll be plying the waters of the Anniversary Update soon, with a cutlass in one hand, and a frying pan in the other. Keep a weather eye on the horizon, an ear to the winds, and you may cross paths with the Sea of Feasts® food sloop!
Whats the point of the brig in the sloop if you cant even brig the other person like they should atleast add a system to make it fair to brig the other person
There’s so many ideas of features to add to this game that on the surface seem exciting but don’t add enough meaningful changes to give this game the depth it needs.
As it stands, there are two main ‘objectives’.
Voyages (aka. The Grind) -passive gameplay style with a focus on quests that are repetitive and often uninteresting. -relaxed -PvE heavy -PvP lite (only occasional interactions) -great for people who want a relaxing experience and want to avoid PvP for the most part -very grind-centric.
Skull forts (aka. team death match with ships) -active, engaging gameplay occasionally interrupted by disappearing boats and a somewhat unfinished and abuseable respawn system -the ‘aha’ moment of Sea of Thieves. Very few games have made me feel the way I do when I’m fighting for a skull fort with galleons and sloops. Crazy highs. Frustrating lows.
Within these two objectives, there’s three main ‘playstyles’.
Avoid -run, outsail, outplay
Hide/Sneak -park the boat behind a big island -sneak aboard a boat and stowaway -steal from a boat without them seeing
Fight -often done by 4 man galleons or sloop v sloop. -often won by numbers or the better ‘bunnyhopper’ -heavily favoring of the blunderbuss and spawn-camping
Honestly, I don’t seem much changing about the objectives and playstyles of the game. What I see that the game needs are ways of giving each play style more tools to add depth and nuance to the game. Ideas are listed as follows.
The Boarding Axe -already listed in the game files -assumed to allow removal of boards on ship cannon ball holes -favors PvP, sneakers, and even avoiders -probably the most important additional ‘tool’ to be added to the game that will heavily alter gameplay
Grappling Hook -a new item to allow boarding boats wherever instead of strictly at the rope ladders. -SNEAK playstyle: allows sneaking onto the back of a galleon or anywhere else to steal cargo or murder chickens :( -FIGHT playstyle: can be used to ‘tie’ two boats together and force them to sail together. Throw two grappling hooks from your deck onto theirs and you’ll sail alongside the other boat until one ship sinks. (Perhaps lower respawn time to make it an almost ‘death match’-esque game mode, but that’s a side idea) -AVOID playstyle: getting chased? Grab your grappling hook, jump off, hook onto their boat and drop their anchor
Grenades -a cannonball-like commodity found on islands -can only carry a couple -not as powerful as a pistol
So if we were referring to a group of the Sloop, would we say Sleep instead?
I am a Solo Slooper and i was a bit afraid of this Commendation. But i thought, even if they kill me all the time, at least i get it done. So i joined a Server, put up my Reapers Mark and started the voyage. There were already two other Reapers visible on the map. I was hoping they are friendly ... they werent.
So after getting sunk before even reaching Wanderers Refuge, i came up with an idea. Im not gonna try to defend my ship, im just going to the island and digging up the chest so i can complete the voyage. At first i was planning on leaving the chest, but then i remembered there is this one hidden cave on wanderers refuge, where i could hide all my chest (or try to). so i did that.
Long Story short, i never put any of my chest on my ship, i hid them all (not all in the cave, but some). The two riddle chest got stolen by other crews but i got away with 18.
Although i had to wait until the other two Reapers were done with their voyage to load my haul, it was a super fun Experience.
Had one of my best nights of Sea of Thieves last night! Laying out the scene, my crew and I were piloting a galleon. 99% of the time, we try to keep to ourselves, avoid confrontation, and we never ever fire the first shot. Two separate times after a long spree of collecting loot, we headed into outposts to turn it in. On both occasions, there was a sloop sitting there, presumably doing the same thing turning in loot.
As we sailed in, we did what we aways do: pull out the megaphone and yell that we're friendly. We started for the opposite side of the island to further show we weren't threatening. Well one sloop didn't like that, so they proceeded to sail out toward us. My team manned the cannons in preparation as I once again shouted that we were friendly. This person was in a sloop and we were in a galleon, we thought there was no way this person would engage us. But sure enough... They get within range and fire a cannon at us. What proceeds is the most elegant display of cannon fireworks I have ever seen with our four broadside cannons lighting this poor sloop up, sending it deeeeeep into Davy Jones's territory. That poor sloop went down in seconds. We parked the boat and waited for them to try to board us while we had our blunderbusses at the ready. The two boarders went down quickly. Turns out they had a bunch of loot on their ship, which we handily took and sold as payment for being inconvenienced. Free loot?
This same exact experience happened not once, but twice on two separate outposts with two separate ships. Sea of Thieves is wild and I have so much fun every time I play it one way or another.
Anyone else have wild experiences like this and/or know why the sloops would try this?
Because I couldn't find any:
Vander Sloop
A tactic to destroy a shield generator on an Imperial Star Destroyer while the shields are still up. The ISD primarily has guns on dorsal (top) surface so the Vander Sloop attacks the ISD from the below. The goals is to fly through a gap in the hull and under the shields while attacking the shield generator.

First, Identify the notch on the side of the ISD between the hanger and power subsystem
Fly at a low level until the shield lines up with the notch
Boost up through the notch towards the shield generator
Be careful not to hit the side!

When in range, unleash your weapons then escape for another run, or return to the safety of your fleet
The finished maneuver should look like this:

I've been playing since Launch day and have never posted anything, but thought I'd share this with you guys because I just couldn't believe the chain of events.
The following happened between the hours of 2am - 4am Thursday, the 16th of January 2020
I started at Ancient Spire wanting to do legend of seas at lagoon of whispers and crescent isle; something easy to do while I try to get myself tired before going to sleep. There was a sloop at Golden sands and a reaper chest too. However, I was going to ignore them until I found a rowboat at Lagoon of whispers. So I got in the rowboat and started to row over when they took off. So I went back to my ship, and upon doing so I saw another sloop heading to the Outpost...I decided to go investigate (the reaper chest was still on the island).
THEY SHOT FIRST! I roll up and lit them up with 7/10 (killing one with a cannon) to their 4/10. I repair and bail and get parked right up on the island behind (no holes in my ship) and hit them a couple more times before they sink. I see both jump off their ship and come after me...one has a keg. He's too close for cannons and I couldn't shoot him in time so he made it on, lights it, and blows it. I was trying to survive the blast which I did only because I was on the very back edge of the canopy and landed in the water which put out the fire that would've killed me. His buddy is in the water port side of my ship, so I cronch on a mango before killing him in one shot with my flintlock. I then climb aboard my ship to see the kegger below deck still alive and eating bananas when we get into a fight. He pulls out his blunder and is able to get a shot off, but only grazed me and I struck him down with my Cutlass. My ship had almost every back hole and 2 holes below deck closest to the stairs. My helm, mast and capstan took full damage. The water was creeping up, but luckily I was able to put out the fire and get rid of the water in one fell swoop.
After some time I finally get my ship fully patched and dried up, and when I checked the map I saw the reaper chest was still on the island. So I went to the island and found out that the chest could not be sold to Duke, so instead of traveling to the Reaper's Hideout (because I WASN'T trying to PVP), I decided to hide it under the secret opening to the PL hideout. Upon returning to my ship I set course to Crescent isle when I see a ship coming in, the sloop was back for more. So I decided to engage the sloop knowing that I wouldn'

It seems just kinda silly to me we're putting these modular vessels against ai that are essentially giant NPCs that travel constant speeds regardless of wind. Yiu cant disable or cripple them while they will one shot a hole in your ship with a broadside.
What id like to see are ais manning real ships fixing, tacking, and shooting canon . Would also be nice to sink them as salvage
