A list of puns related to "Seventy Eight"
βIgnore it,β he muttered, looking about the place.
Given the detritus strewn about the inside of the shuttle, it was clear Maybel had spent a fair amount of time here. Fortunately for him, it seemed that her amateur investigations into the shuttleβs function werenβt too invasive.Though he strongly believed the cupholder might never work again after what sheβd done to it.
βYou got the ignition switch?β
He smiled in triumph as the blue skinned woman produced the fob, which he promptly plugged into the main console. His smile only grew as the internal lights came on with barely a flicker.
While that didnβt necessarily mean the vehicle was in a fit shape to fly β heβd yet to turn on the grav-drive yet β it was a step in the right direction.
Slipping into the pilotβs seat, his eyes roamed over the shuttleβs controls.
Not too different from the one on the Whisker, he thought.
Which meant he could probably pilot it well enough for what he needed. Which wasnβt so much a running indictment of his talents as a pilot as it was the relative simplicity of flying a vehicle equipped with an anti-grav system. In many ways, it wasnβt totally unlike driving an automatic car, with only the added complication of an extra dimension to deal with.
Still, he wouldnβt have even been considering this if it werenβt for the fact that Rocket had snuck him aboard the Whiskerβs shuttle for a go more than once β and that he was desperate.
Mostly desperate.
The knocking came from the front door again. Louder this time. Maybel glanced at him, but he shook his head. Hopefully whoever it was would go away if they ignored them long enough.
Of course, that was the moment he heard the front door being broken down.
βWell shit.β He turned to look up at the hatch. βSomeoneβs pretty eager to meet you.β
Maybel winced at the sound of movement from inside her house.
βYou focus on getting the sky-ship flying,β she instructed, moving to clamber out of the top hatch. βIβll go see what my visitors want.β
Before Jason could even think to argue, the Ufrian woman was gone. Seeing little recourse but to do what she asked, he started running through the Shuttleβs pre-flight checklist. Something Rocket had insisted on teaching him in laborious detail. A fact he might have attributed to her seriousness about flight safety were it not for the fact that sheβd clearly just been using it as an excuse to lean over him and press her rather ample assets against the back of his head.
The memory made hi

No, it isnβt over.
Letharguyβs men waste no time to reload their weapons, all the while Rez and I panic.
βWhat do we do?β He screams, swollen eyes expanding best as they can he stares at me with desperation.
Right, Iβm the fucking meta here.
But I havenβt a single clue what to do and time is of the essence. Time. Time!
Feeling ridiculous, my hand squeezes the wheel. All I have to do is pause. Thatβs all.
Except the distance between our enemies and myself is far too large for my powers to cover. If I try to charge them Iβll be a body with holes before I know it.
Iβm left with one option.
Gently, my feet push the pedals, revving the Jeep for the do or die plan Iβve formulated.
βWhat are you doing?β Rez asks, but thereβs no time left to answer, to explain my brilliance or madness.
Letharguyβs man is done reloading. He takes aim with the launcher.
Here we go!
Psshoooshh!
Set loose at daring speeds the rocket launches at us, intent on our destruction. Within the space of a few seconds it crosses into my range and my plan can be put to action at last
Pause!
Thinking to stop the rocket before it blows us up with my powers, but nothing happens, the rocket continues to fly.
Fuck!
I don't have a moment to collect my thoughts and dread the mistake Iβve made as a searing heat washes over my right side.
The windshield shatters like a flimsy piece of glass, the edges melting to steaming sludge as a torrent of flame bursts out from the back seat, through it and into the offensive rocket.
Boom!
The racketing blast has the Jeep shuddering, shrapnel ricochets deep into the left over glass and the bonnet. Aside from the burn on the side of my face, Iβm great, ecstatic even, βFawn! Youβre up.β
With her flaming fist outstretched she looks like she can barely keep her head up, βLink...get Link.β
Right!
Pushing out of the Jeep I fall to my feet, my head spinning from vertigo I almost puke. What the fuck is it now?
Looking up I find no sign of Steve so I know itβs my body being shitty. Struggling with it I get on moving to Link.
Sure to duck for cover as Rez tries his best to keep Letharguyβs people off us I crawl through the wrecked streets. Itβs a mess all around.
Down ahead, behind the Jeep is the tipped XPD vehicle. I canβt make out the men from here, the smoke thick and the wreckage too messed up to make much sense o

As far as I can tell, it's all legitimate as well: over the course of two weeks my work has steadily accrued more and more likes and hits. As a first time poster, thank you so much to everyone who did this. It's super encouraging and even though life has forced me to slow down writing wise I'm beyond happy to see so many people enjoy it.
Thank you π

The strange and unsettling photographs found unprocessed in the camera gave such a horrifying story that no one investigated the matter too deeply for fear of discovering the truth.
Paterson Textile Strike (1835)
On this day in 1835, 2,000 workers, most of them children, from more than twenty textile mills in Paterson, New Jersey went on strike to demand working hours be reduced from their standard six day, seventy-eight hour work week.
In response to the strike, employers reduced hours to twelve on weekdays and nine on Saturday. This reduction broke the strike, and most of the workers returned to the mills.
Despite this concession, strike leaders and their families were permanently barred from employment in Paterson, blacklisted by the mill owners.

The storm thundered across the city, lighting flashing and booming, rain driving hard against the crysteel windows, the wind howling through the streets, the clouds low and dark.
Nakteti stood on the balcony of the suite she had been allocated, the safety-fields dialed down enough to let some wind and rain through. She wasn't at risk of being thrown from the balcony by the wind or being drowned by the rain but she could still feel the savagery of the storm somewhat. She knew that most beings would take shelter, hide from such furious nature, but she wanted to experience, as much as she could, what humans had put up with from their earliest days.
She wanted, no, she needed to understand the humans. In the same way her people had learned about the Lanaktallans and their Unified Civilized Species Councils, she wanted to learn about the humans. Both were the dominant species in their sector of the galactic arm spur but they both approached everything from such different angles.
A Lanaktallan's first impulse was to preserve resources for future generations, to make sure that everyone got their fair share of the resources of a newly discovered planet.
A humans first instinct was to alter their environment or themselves to survive.
She had watched the Tri-Vid, found out she could look up educational or entertainment programs and order them to either rent for a brief period of time or 'buy' the ability to watch it when she wanted for the rest of her life.
The more she watched, the more she understood.
Human infants, from the moment they were born, looked for their mother, could grasp tightly to things, and were capable of vocalizing distress or need. They were highly physical and their mental faculties started developing quickly.
Human children progressed so rapidly Nakteti had double-checked several times.
Over and over she saw proof that humans were capable of multiple actions at once. The most incredible she saw was a video of small children patting their
