A list of puns related to "Scrivener"
The article tells us that their Dredger ship has a range similar to modern fleet carriers. That's a ~500LY bubble around the Hesperus, waiting to be searched!

Seriously, why are words like 'okay' and 'cafe' not recognized by their dictionary? There's probably hundreds more examples. If it's based on some UK dictionary, I find it silly that these words aren't used by brits.
**Solution for anyone stumbling across this:
The only issue was that all my words were in a single unsplit draft which I learned is extremely inefficient for a program like scrivener. Splitting it to drafts of 10,000 fixed it entirely.
*Updated info
On projects where drafts don't exceed 10,000 words the program works perfectly fine. Is it possible that scrivener can't handle extremely long drafts and I just have to break those apart?
Some info:
None of the processes on task manager exceed 20% (CPU, Memory, Disk, Network, GPU).
Scrivener installed on local drive D: which has 45 GB of empty space.
Project has only text files, no large media files.
I've tried turning off automatic backups and upping autosave frequency to 300 seconds.
I received a copy of a document which I created in Scrivener on my iMac, complied into a .doc, commented on by someone else, and returned to me with the statement,
NOTES ON COMMENTS: My comments are in blue. Bolded text means you should look at that part of the sentence because it isnβt working for me in some way. Red suggests the material can be cut. If my comments donβt appear, use the βTrack Changesβ function in Word.
When I imported it into Scrivener none of the colors appeared and I could not find a way to read the track changes. Is it possible to import a Word document into Scrivener so the track changes can be read?
From Galent News:
"The dredger belonging to the Scriveners Clan has left the Perseus Dark Region KC-V c2-2 system, where the Hesperus megaship is located. Alternatively, the Scriveners detected richer pickings elsewhere β either fresh resources for the dredger to consume or new information for their βKnowledge Coreβ. In theory they could still be tracked down as their vesselβs hyperdrive has a similar range to modern-day fleet carriers.β
I went to the dredger the day before the CG. Was curious about what a dredger was, and I've never shot a structure so ... Anyway a 200 CR bounty on me later it was just a ship sitting there, no one around, and no one came when I started shooting it. Meh, kinda lame, so I bounced. Here's where insanity steps in. I kept staring at that ship, and for whatever reason, I can't shake the feeling that there's guardian artifacts onboard. I have nothing as far as evidence of any kind. Just a gut feeling. F it, I'm going to look for that rust bucket and see for myself what's going on around here. If nothing else, it will give me something to do until Salvation pops back up.
Hi All,
I'm using the newest version of Scrivener on a Mac.
I am trying to import my MS from Word into Scrivener. The import works fine except that after the first few paragraphs of every new chapter, Scrivener "forgets" my paragraph indents. Everything--including the first line of each new paragraph--is left aligned. The only way I can see around this is to go through the MS manually and re-indent all my paragraphs--which would take forever!
Here are the importing methods I've tried:
I had the same issue with every approach. (It also inserted extra spaces between paragraphs in each of the above approaches, but I was able to easily fix that.)
Then I tried to fix the indent issue globally using the following two approaches:
None of these approaches works (I tried every possible combination of the above approaches). The issue seems to be that when I am pasting or importing my Word document into Scrivener, Scrivener isn't recognizing all the indents (although it's recognizing some--I have no idea why it recognizes some but not others).
Anyone here know a way around this?
Thanks in advance for the help!
I've been using Plot Factory for writing and while I'm mostly pretty happy with it, there are some features that scrivener has that PF doesn't. Plus PF gets really pricey if the free version doesn't work for you. I decided to give scrivener a chance and have the free trial going. I knew going in that the learning curve was intense but I've spent the last hour trying to figure out how to organize chapters when you have a prologue and epilogue. One of the issues I'm running into is all the documentation and articles I've found have been for the previous version of scrivener so aren't all that helpful since they changed the way compiling works with scrivener 3. I'm also somewhat concerned about switching to new software that has super dated documentation but that's a more general concern.
Can anyone here offer some advice on how you typically organize your chapters if you make use of prologues and/or epilogues. I don't really want to create a folder for each chapter because I don't make use of multiple scenes within a chapter. This is how I currently have it setup.
Basically the title. I've been using the new Windows version of Scriv since it came out and haven't had any issues till today--when I opened my project, I got that notice claiming that I need to enter my license or continue with the trial version. I paid for this program and entered my license back when it first came out so I'm really not sure what's going on. And L&L doesn't have a direct support line so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out? Thanks in advance.
Edit: After requesting my license via email and inputting it to the activation box a couple of times--the first couple attempts told me the license was already in use/incompatible with the program version--it finally accepted the license I used back in March when I initially bought the program. I'm gonna leave this post up, though, because this seems like a glitch/error that should be addressed. If the program is randomly booting users and those users can't get their licenses back/think they have to re-purchase Scriv, that's kind of a problem.
Edit 2: Yeah there's some weird stuff going on here. Hopefully L&L sees this and addresses it because apparently I'm not the only one.
Intro
So the last part left you in the lurch a bit. I said I was going to teach you how to design puzzles, but I never actually showed you how, I just delivered to high-concept ideas and put in an example and a counter-example.
As promised in the last part, this part is going to go step-by-step through how I designed a puzzle. The whole way through Iβll be linking things back to the concepts outlined in the last part.
Without any further delay letβs dive into The Scrivenerβs Tomb.
The Dungeon Itself
So the titular Scrivener is the keeper of all knowledge and lore in this setting. I wanted a Holistic Dungeon that built off this theme, so I made my overarching mechanic be about writing systems and runic symbols.
Then I decided βfuck it, letβs make this harder for meβ and put 3 different sets of symbols in the dungeon, all of which needed to be learned in order to navigate and complete the dungeon. These were, respectively: a writing system, navigation glyphs, and property runes. The writing system allowed me to put coded messages throughout the dungeon (which were used to learn the other symbols). The navigation glyphs related to a puzzle that showed the order the dungeonβs rooms had to be traversed in. The property runes allowed the party to manipulate objects by imbuing them with properties (such as βOn/Offβ, βOpen/Closeβ, etc).
Iβm going to go through the first of them: the writing system.
The Writing System
This is a simple alphabet cipher. Each letter is represented by a symbol. The alphabet is the same as ours with two exceptions: it doesnβt have the letter Q and the letter V is used for V and U. The reason for this is now I have a 24-letter alphabet. Why? So I can do this:
https://imgur.com/z7zTZEk
This is the master sheet I made for myself. It was the first thing I designed for this dungeon. With this I can now represent the entire alphabet with just 6 different symbols, and the orientation of the symbol changes what letter it corresponds to.
Thatβs all it is, just a letter substitution cipher. But because of the rotational property of the symbols itβs not easy to brute-force the cipher the way one usually can for ciphers of its kind.
Learning The Cipher
The first puzzle involved learning this cipher. Th

Hi everyone:
Has anyone tried dictation on Scrivener for iPad? Does it performs properly? Any comment, experience or advice appreciated.
Hi,
I occasionally have dialogue in which the character is interrupted before completing the sentence, and I use a dash to signify the break/end of the dialogue, and want to follow the dash by a (closed) curly quote.
However, when I try this, I always get the curly quote displaying the wrong way around (i.e., it displays as an opening quote; the one that precedes and signals the start of the dialogue).
Is there any way to do what I am trying to do in Scrivener?
Thanks for any replies.
Basically, I want to be able to use both the Windows version and the ipados version via the dropbox sync. This has worked well for me so far, but I'd also like to use git or github's version tracking capability as well. I've seen a lot of people say it's possible, but I haven't really seen anything that says you can do it with the dropbox sync. Anyone have a guide or something on how to set this up so that I can do version tracking on both windows and ipados?
EDIT: I figured it mostly out, but it doesnβt use Dropbox at all, it uses GitHub as the sole sync. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Create a new project on GitHub Step 2: Install Working Copy on your iPad Step 3: In Working Copy create a new repository, which will be your Scrivener folder, or wherever you keep your .scriv files. Step 4: In your repository settings, add a new remote. Paste in the URL from your GitHub project. Step 5: ???? Step 6: Profit.
I have a .gitignore file, but Iβm a bit worried that by ignoring parts of the .scriv folder there will be some important missing information for using github as a sync process. Thoughts?
EDIT 2: I have created a sub folder in Dropbox, and now am using Dropbox for syncing and github/Working Copy as version control. Seems to be working great! I can now use the .gitignore file and not worry about ignoring a file important to the structure of the .scriv folder.
I just downloaded Scrivener and it looks great so far, I like how itβs organized. However my laptop is pretty old and could only support Scrivener 2 instead of the latest version. Does anyone know how they compare?
In all honestly I purchased scrivener just to put all my writings in one place. However, I forget which is the latest one that I have amended (because I do not delete my drafts) whoops.
As far as I (am a very basic user) I have two portions - the main article where I have my blog posts and the research portion where I cut and paste my material.
I wished I know how to use scrivener properly but the tutorials have left me lost most of the time.
Could someone point me to the right direction?
Oh yeah I save the Scrivener file in my thumb drive and thatβs about it.
Whoops.
I've recently noticed that my main two scrivener projects are around the 1.3GB size. One is kind of a 'last year's backup, so essentially they are similar projects. Regardless they are 1.3GB, and I suspect the culprit is a few large pdf files in there somewhere. Problem is it's a bit unwieldy, I'm not sure where these large files are. I probably should have split the files into smaller projects.
Is there anyway to find large pdf's within the project, either within Scrivener or using Mac's Finders 'show package contents' and looking there?
Thanks.
I know this course gets lots of great reviews, but before I plop down the denarii... Is it good for Scrivener 3 on PC (since I heard that now the PC and Mac versions are very similar)?
Can anyone who uses S 3 on a PC (maybe I need to clarify: and Windows 10), AND has purchased Karen's course on Udemy give some feedback?

What does r/books think of this Melville story? The narrator professes to care for Bartleby and to feel pity for him but also he attempts to pawn him off on others at every chance. Only at the end do I think he really feels compassion for him.
The other workers also go between yelling for him to be thrown out and having sympathy for him. As is stated by the narrator their moods depend on the time of day. That seems like a very poor way to structure your opinions of someone or to find cause for throwing them out.
The young gingernut kid also seems to be friends with Bartleby at one point but I think even he calls for him to be sacked later on.
Overall what do you make of this story? What did you get out of it? The Wiki says this story is about Depression but I think that is an extremely superficial reading. What did you take away?
Am I missing something? When I go to File > Options > Keyboard there is a decent list of hotkeys, but I can't add any commands as additional hotkeys. For example I wanted to create a hotkey for Writing Tools > Look up in Thesaurus.com, but I can't add any new hotkeys in the Keyboard menu. I'm hoping to get some clarity on this, thanks in advance.
Just what the title says. You can find out more here.
I am just relieved that it is finally out.

Sorry couldn't find any other flair.
Oh the flair has been fixed.
The only enemy that i haven't killed is the Omega Mark, and I reeeeealy don't wanna go to the Great Crystal, and Omega is the Boss of floor 99 so I will end up killing him anyway
I really love this page view with the white page over a gray background, like this youtuber has in their video talking about Scrivener 3 for Windows (Its why I hated transitioning to Windows, because I lost Scrivener for Mac and having that version of page view) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvlcHH9TU-4&ab_channel=AuthorLevelUp - but I cannot for the life of me figure out how they set that up, does anyone here know how to do that? I have spent over an hour messing around with this (Scrivener 3 for Windows) and am totally lost.

Hey all - real quick question here. The module says 2 mummies per character appear at EACH spot marked M. That would mean my party of 4 facing 40 mummies to start combat. The group is actually lvl 17 so I think it might be fun but is this how people are interpreting it or do we think it is imprecise language and the module actually intends 2 mummies per character total?
Thanks! Session is tonight, so if nobody intervenes here, I'm sending all 40!
Finishing up my first new story since buying Scrivener, and I want something like MS Word's "Track Changes" so I can see my MS before and after line edits in the same window. Can I do this in Scrivener and, if so, how?
Hello. New kid on the block here. I've been writing my first novel for a while. I was fully inspired then a little revolution started in my country and then a pandemic stroke the world... Now I think I'm finally in a stage I can start finishing it and I want to use something more professional than Google Drive.
Technically and legally I am a screenwriter so I'm a little used to write sorting cards and making notes about the universe and characters backstories. I call it a professional deformation.
I could use a software/app in English but I think for this one it might be useful to embrace my hispanic heritage. So, does paying for screvener Spanish version worth it? Is Ulysses better? Is there another one out there, open source?
Besitos, besitos. Chau chau.
Hi,
I use Dragon voice recognition dictation software with Scrivener 3 Windows (and quite a few other different pieces of software), and am very happy with Dragonβs performance.
And I know that because Scrivener is not a programme supported by Dragon, it is not fair to expect all of Dragon's commands to work in unsupported programmes.
Recently, I have noticed a new quirk with Dragon in Scrivener, in addition to several things that do not work which I have known about for a long time, and I am wondering if others have experienced these problems, and if so, what possible solutions you might suggest.
I am using Dragon 15 Professional for Windows.
These are the problems I am experiencing with Dragon in Scrivener
I have used various versions of Scrivener in Word, several email and webmail programmes, and other types of software, and have only experienced this problem rarely.
And this problem only started happening for me in Scrivener in the last week or so: before that, pausing and resuming dictation would never cause this problem.
a. The βAll Cap(s) Thatβ command does not work
b. The βSelect [words in the sentence or window]β does not work
I am grateful for any help with this.
Thank you.
So I upgraded using my license from Scrivener 1 to 3.
Been using it awhile, suddenly tonight on startup I get a window saying my copy is unlicensed and I need to buy now or revert to trial.
Using options to claim my old license result in a "that license has already claimed" message and spits me back out.
Wall of text auto-response from the literature and latte email address provided in case of issues.
Can't find anything helpful on the official forums.
Anybody familiar with this issue and possible fixes?
Thanks.
Dictating into Scrivener using Dragon 15.61.200.010 for Windows
Just a quick update about using Dragon to dictate directly into Scrivener 3 for Windows' Edit window, without having to use Dragon's Dictation Box.
I use Dragon Professional Individual for Windows.
Update 15.61.200.010 (a brand new version update) came out yesterday, June 29, 2021, and, as with version 15.30.XXXXXX works very well with Scrivener (apart from a few commands not working properly).
In order to avoid Dragon's Dictation Box opening when dictating into Scrivener, go to
Tools - Options - Miscellaneous
and uncheck the βUse the Dictation Box for unsupported applicationsβ.
And then dictate to your heart's content.
If 'Use the Dictation Box for unsupported applications' is checked, one will have to dictate in to the Dictation Box, and cut-and-paste that text when the Dictation Box is full.
Scrivener 1 had a big, useful fullscreen mode button. I've been searching for Scrivener 3's equivalent in settings for hours now, checking all the menus, looking for ways to customise the toolbar, and not a single trace of it. I've gone to the dev website and gotten error 404s to every single google search page that mentions it. All the stuff online is about customising the background image, not going into fullscreen in the first place. Closest I got was a video for Scrivener 1.
Fullscreen really helps me write. Without it, I might as well go back to Scrivener 1. Someone help.
Hi, this is obv very off-season, but does anyone have any discount codes for Scrivener? I have a 30% off coupon - WESLEYANWRITE - for first purchases of Scrivener and Scapple, but I am looking for the 50% off code if anyone has any because every dollar saved matters to me! Thank you very much.
Edit: This 30% off code has no limit and I am posting this here for anyone new to Scrivener who would like to save a few bucks! good luck!
Edit 2: spelling.
Hey everyone!
I won camp nano about a week before April ended, so when I won I got to the page with the certificate and it said that the 50% Scrivener code would be released at the end of the month. My problem now though is that I can't find my way back to that page to get my code! Does anyone know where I can find that? Sorry if this is a dumb question!!
I'm asking all Scrivener users out there if you guys know a good way to compile your document so that one can input it into the text box (HTML or rich text, either work) with minimal editing afterwards.
I managed to find a custom AO3 compile format tutorial on Tumblr but when I actually used it, it didn't transfer any of my paragraph spaces and instead just delivered the entire fanfic as a big block of text. When I try to edit it in richtext on my laptop, the website gets janky so I'd really like to not have to deal with that.
What kind of compile format should I use to transfer my work from Scrivener to Ao3 while keeping the formatting as intact as possible?
is there a way to fix this?
The article mentions their range being similar to modern fleet carriers. That's a ~500LY bubble waiting to be searched!
