A list of puns related to "Salmagundi"
Link Merriam-Webster says the word can also be used as a alternate term for potpourri when meaning a mixture of different things.
Preface I set out to make tank with an early game focus who weakness the enemy while increasing his own strength. I would not worry too much about the numbers for the abilities they can be shuffled around by the balance team am I right? But for real I wanted to give some idea of how I wanted the abilities to feel but the numbers are by no means set in stone.

I think that he would work best in the bottom lane as a support

As you probably know, Irving was also the author of the short stories "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." [Salmagundi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmagundi_(periodical), also known as The Whim-whams and Opinions of Launcelot Langstaff, Esq. & Others was a satirical periodical that Irving published with his brother and a friend between 1807 and 1808. It was a bit like an early 19th-century Mad magazine that focused on New York City culture and politics. β
They used the name Gotham to compare New Yorkers to the inhabitants of a real town by the same name in Nottinghamshire, England. According to the aforementioned collection of legendary tales, the people of Gotham once feigned idiocy in order to prevent King John from establishing a hunting lodge that he would reach by traveling through the town on a regular basis. At that time, any road on which the king traveled was made a public highwayβbut the people of Gotham were not interested in having a public highway through their town, so when the king's messengers visited, the townspeople engaged in foolish activities such as:
And thereby they convinced King John to find a different location for his hunting lodge so that he wouldn't have to regularly travel through a town filled with imbeciles.
The specific stories above appear in Thomas Blount's Tenures of Land, 1874βfull text here. But the legend of the fools and/or wise men of Gotham appeared in stories and jokes as early as the 15th century. You can read all of the "Merrie Tales" of Gotham drawn from from a 1565 printing of the collection here.
There is also a nursery rhyme in Mother Goose's Melody (1765) that mentions them:
>Three wise men of Gotham,
>They went to sea in a bowl,
>And if the bowl had been stronger
>My song would have been longer.
(You can read the full text of that here, but some of the text is a little janky.)
Of course, we all know Gotham as the home

I'm happy to be able to announce this so soon; I thought (as I hinted in this other thread) that it would be withheld for longer.
At the moment, this program only supports Rust, and only randomizes a single source file one way. That said, it already has some basic options (input and output stream/file choice, random seed supplying/printing, etc.). It also, by choice, only works on Rust nightly at the moment (in addition to being written in Rust 2018, it enables at least one unstable std
library feature).
The eventual goal is that salmagundi
will be able to handle copying and altering entire folders with multiple simultaneous randomizations, and will support C, C++, Objective-C, and Objective-C++ in addition to Rust. Other languages might be added as well, if the community wants to contribute.
This is (for the time being) a class project, and part of my purpose in posting this now is to get community feedback on how helpful it is for bug-finding. In other words, please use salmagundi
on selected files in your own codebases, especially if you know the code in that file is doing low-level manipulation of arbitrary bytes, or calling mem::transmute
on values of types that might or might not have their layout completely fixed. Please extend the βBugs Foundβ Github Wiki page with anything you find and are willing to share; I'll use this information in the aggregate for the final class report, but the page should also serve as an ongoing chronicle as this project grows beyond its origin.
Thanks to everyone ahead of time!
EDIT: Spelling corrections.
Salmagundi - a misbegotten hotch-potch of a dish containing all sorts of tat lobbed onto the nearest convenient plate. /u/invader-strange prolly has a posh French name for such a thing.
To matters outstanding :-
Lurkers, n00bs, /r/UK refugees and the like, we know you're there. So please introduce yourselves, taking care to specify your preferred tipple, your favourite place/person/meal/smurf evarrr, and at least one cringingly embarrassing fact or event in your life that still gives you the shameshivers - the absolute best way to ingratiate yourselves with us lovely TRL regulars is by exhibiting a complete lack of self-esteem or regard for one's dignity. Honest.
Gourmands and epicureans, share your passion for food. We like recipes. Served on plates if at all possible.
Brainboxes, boffins, and intellectual hoarders, we also relish quizzes of all kinds. Got a quiz for us? No need to ask, just check that no one else has posted one in the last five minutes then go for it. Moonie will likely sticky it for you if there is a spare slot available.
Bastard TRL bastard meetups!! We haven't had one for aaaages - this requires imminent redress. The buggers are hard enough to pull off even when people are talking about them. Recently they seem to have dropped off the agenda altogether. Not good enough TRL!!
The Perseids!! They peak tonight! Get yer arse in the gutter or the garden and look up at the sky, some will be bright enough to be clearly observed even in central London. And we're due a good display this year. The hours before dawn will be the best.
Any other business may be raised in this thread, no matter how tenuous its connection to reality, coherence, or indeed consciousness.

"A glance at the schedule is enough to make one feel that one would rather go out and shoot songbirds than stay in and watch the dismal salmagundi of game shows, repeats and soap operas" (Jane Shilling, "My brother and other animals", Daily Telegraph, August 22, 1998).
French - salmigondis
Hi r/Van! I'm doing some Halloween shopping- looking for some weird and wonderful items. Salmagundi West is just my favourite store for things like this, but I was wondering if anyone happened to know of anywhere else at all similar? (Stores jam packed with weird items!)
Much appreciated, guys!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
