Can anyone explain what Hawking radiation would look like from inside the event horizon of a black hole?

So it means that the electron and positron get annihilated. But why is the initial positron travelling backwards in time?

The annihilation supposedly produces a gamma ray. But does that gamma ray turn an antiquark into a quark, and make the antiquark emit a gluon?

In the standard model, all "forces" are interactions intermediated by bosons (photons, W, Z particles, gluons). For example, an electron's momentum will change when it exchanges a photon (or other guage boson) with another particle. Such interactions can be shown using Feynman diagrams.

Now, suppose an electron interacts with an uncharged mass (say a neutrino or an uncharged black hole) due to gravity or the weak interaction. Is there any reason for it to radiate? When I look at the Feynman diagram for elastic scattering of an electron with a neutrino, I don't see an extraneous photon.

Usually, accelerating point charges are said to radiate (Larmor formula, etc). Is this just because usually, said acceleration is due to interactions intermediated by photons, virtual or otherwise?

In a previous post I put forth a theory that Elden Ring is the Dark Souls of alchemy, adapting and literalizing concepts and symbols from the Hermetic tradition of alchemy, specifically the magnum opus or Great Work, to form the basis of its world and lore.

The release of the story trailer and recent Edge interview motivated me to revisit these connections and elaborate on my initial theories. The previous post can be found pinned in my profile, but I will recap some of the key points and sum up the additional points below:

The Elden Ring logo can be compared to alchemy-related diagrams such as the Ripley Scroll, which illustrates the achievement of the fabled philosophers’ stone.

• The logo bears a strong resemblance to the Ripley Scroll’s image of a coiled dragon atop a globe (see the previous post for more on this).
• Similarly, the ring of circles pattern seen in the giant’s eye from the Elden Ring gameplay reveal trailer and armor design motifs resembles the Ripley Scroll’s depiction of the philosophers’ stone as a ring of circles.

The player’s journey from lowly Tarnished to golden Lord corresponds to alchemy’s Great Work, where lead is literally or metaphorically turned to gold.

• Just as the culmination of alchemy’s Great Work is the creation of the philosophers’ stone; the successful completion of the Long March could lead to the creation of the Elden Ring.
• I believe Godfrey was the first to make a journey known in Elden Ring’s world as “the Long March.” After uniting with Marika, the Lands Between experienced a time of balance and prosperity governed by the Golden Order.

The “bloody wolf” identity of the Tarnished mirrors that of alchemy’s “grey wolf” (antimony), a “cooperative metal” capable of purifying gold.

• The Twelve Keys of Basil Valentine suggests the base material for the magnum opus be a “fierce grey wolf”. It describes a transformation from wolf to lion and ultimately king.

Various sections of the Ripley Scroll seem to correspond to key lore concepts in Elden Ring.

###Biography

A giant flying fire-breathing turtle from the ancient Atlantean continent. Awakened in the sixties from his millenia-long slumber by a nuclear explosion, Gamera rose from the ice of the Arctic to rampage across the world once more. Gamera started off as a bad guy, wrecking Tokyo until he was tricked and launched into space. But after he returned, he gradually became more and more heroic and developed an affinity for children... not in a weird way though. Across his many adventures, Gamera has traveled through space, befriended several annoying Japanese kids, and duked it out with the weirdest kaiju you can imagine.

This thread covers the eight Showa era Gamera movies. All footage used is from the original Japanese versions. Note that the cheaper movies like to re-use footage of fights, and I've ignored these "duplicate" feats just to save space unless the feat is changed in some way by the new editing. The eighth film is sometimes theorized to feature a different Gamera or be set in a different continuity due to a weird subplot involving a boy who thinks his pet turtle turned into Gamera, but details in the movie itself and external material cast doubt on that. It's also just 90% stock footage from the previous movies, so I'm just going to include the few original feats here regardless.

The message the beacons in the nebula repeatedly transmitted had warned Undriat. The message was transmitted over multiple frequencies and in many languages. It stated the huge field of dust and debris slowly circling the strangely pulsing star was not to be disturbed, for humanity considered it a resting place of their dead. Travelers and those who respected it were welcome, but any who plundered it, or desecrated it would bring upon themselves the full wrath of humanity.

Undriat was a scavenger. Scavengers did not fear the dead. Undriat most certainly did not fear any species that literally transmitted to the universe where its valuable artifacts could be found. Undriat silenced the repeating message as he piloted his ship, the Devious Child of Unknown Parentage toward the object his scanners had located in the slowly moving clouds of dust.

Besides, Undriat reasoned, he would be long gone from those vast clouds of erratically swirling dust lit by the strangely flickering star, and anything he might have found would be long-gone, too, before any human would know. The sensors on Undriat's ship had found little, but what they did find was intriguing. The scraps humanity left discarded in the universe were few and far between, but they were always in decent shape. The artifact he had found floating in the vast field of pulverized matter was not only in good shape, it still seemed to function.

Unlike other builders of the strange and curious, humanity always seemed to make plain where energy should enter their handiwork. Unfortunately they were a bit more opaque concerning the exits. It was as if all of humanity simply understood its creations by the simple fact of being human.

Fortunately humanity was also very helpful in that they let practically any species access their world's knowledge base. A quick search of it had proven useful. A document from their historical record had revealed the object to be an archaic and failed attempt to create a different form of ship propulsion. The article contained a few links to the section concerning astronomy but astronomy never interested Undriat. That stars existed was the most Undriat cared about the structure of the universe.

Disclaimer, I am not a physicist, and a real one could probably get into the intricacies better.

The coolest thing about being an Arcanist in FFXIV is learning how arcanima works, bc it’s basically physics with a dash of geometry. Physics is used to describe natural phenomena in math terms. They scienced their magic into math.

Furthering on that, aether is electromagnetic. During that one quest near the end of ARR, when you’re >!fixing a Garlean Reaper to save the Scions, Cid!< explains that the Garleans use electromagnetic waves to communicate. Basically, they have radios. But he also says that crystals can be used to disrupt these radio waves. How do you disrupt electromagnetic waves? With more electromagnetic waves — or, destructive interference. Thus, crystals give off electromagnetic radiation.

(When you’re trying to >!find an ice-aspected crystal to get through Garuda’s wind storm!<, you have to use a special pot to seal the crystal away so it doesn’t negatively affect you with its presence. Sound familiar? Typical radiation.)

Now, if crystals are electromagnetic, and crystals are made of aether, that means that aether is electromagnetic. And since magic uses aether, magic is also electro-magnetic.

Back to arcanima: arcanima uses geometric diagrams to channel aether, like a function machine in math terms. Input is the aether, box is the grimoire, output is the spell. These ‘arcane geometries’ are drawn using aether-conductive ink, such as copper ink, as shown when creating a grimoire as an alchemist, further supporting the evidence that aether, and thus magic, functions as an electromagnetic wave on at least some level.

It might also be worth noting that astral and umbral alignment could act as positive and negative poles or charges, and aether from the sun can be collected and stored for energy, aka solar power, as shown by >!the Allagan Empire's Crystal Tower!<.

I just find it cool that being an Arcanist in FFXIV basically makes you a magic physicist. Really puts the physic in physician if you’re a Scholar like me. (Is it clear why I chose the nerd Job now?)

Introduction

By the end of the civil war, the KMC had all but established itself as one of the dominant powers on Myari. Even had he wished to do so, the newly crowned Sultan Askesh XXI was not in a position to deny any aid from the Kachax as his own resources and military forces had been decimated as a result of the conflict. Attempting to remove the KMC from power would not only be nearly impossible but would likely deny him vital supplies offered up by the Kachax. And so the KMC were here to stay on Myari.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I really enjoy understanding physics and meta physics and many theories to do with space, but as a musician I don’t tend to come in contact with people who study and or know about different scientific theories so I was hoping if I provided my very rudimentary understanding of quantum field theory and anyone could correct me!

my current knowledge of quantum field theory is mainly through Hawking radiation, in which the quantum field is what causes particles (photons) to ‘appear’ in and around black holes in which they arrive in pairs as one of the photons get to escape the event horizon and the other does not. The escaping photons with them take the energy that they were created with from the black hole away from it slowly causing the black hole to radiate away into nothing (or big boy bang)

(This is where my understanding really breaks down) The reason these particles ‘appear’ is because they always exist in a neutral state because of opposing matter/particles keeping a level of balance by counteracting each other creating a neutrality in the particles field the particles express themselves in this form as ‘virtual particles’ which I understand to mean as particles we can’t experience? Or physically prove are there?

There are different fields for all the different subatomic particles in which they all can seamlessly act as waves and or particles without issues.

One of my main questions is if these virtual particles are only activated by things such as black holes and such? And if my understanding of virtual particles is even any remoteness of correct!

Sorry for the long post! I know I really only know the very surface of the theory so I probably missed the most important parts, but I am just a bystander who sometimes like to think I understand anything about space and physics, so I’d love to be enlightened!

I have room for another 1x140mm radiator at the bottom of my case, which would look something like this:

My question is, would the 140mm radiator even improve cooling? If set to intake, would it will worsen the performance of the 120mm exhaust radiator by heating case air and thus negate itself? If set to exhaust, could it even effectively push air out the bottom of the case?

/u/azusfan has opted to post another screed in /r/creation, which is unusually getting a positive response -- most of his posts being low-effort non-understandings, this is counter to expectations.

Unfortunately, it's fucking terrible and creationists are lining up to demonstrate their awful taste in arguments.

Azusfan is claiming that these traps are ones we set out for them to fall into. Unfortunately, these are pits creationists will frequently dig for themselves.

In order of /u/azusfan's original set:

Their definition of natural selection includes no chance for upward mobility, and they exclude it through fuzzy definitions, which is an issue he brings up again.

Once again, Azusfan demonstrates he has no understanding of thermodynamics or entropy: the second law is not just about heat transfer. Otherwise, evolutionists never invoke entropy or thermodynamics, since we orbit a star that radiates us in 1KW/m^2 of almost free energy, and so chemistry can progress against entropy, upto 1KW/m^2, before thermodynamics suggests something odd is going on.

The Big Bang is also barely atheistic, it's a descriptive model: it explains what we actually see. It just doesn't match the 6000 year timeline, so they can't accept it. However, they have no explanation for our observations

She seemed impressed that he knew the proper term for the medical symbol. He thought about telling her a humanised version of his past to explain his knowledge. That as one of quintuplets, he’d heard the term a lot when two of his siblings had followed Lady Col into the medical field.

It was better than admitting the encounter he’d had with Aesculapius’ father back before he’d reached triple figures. Even now, after all these centuries, the thought of Apollo’s smug face was almost enough to have him shift into his natural form and lower his wings for cleaving purposes. He’d only been young, but nobody … nobody got away with sneering at the Eechee when she wasn’t looking.

Some stuff I liked.

• The horror allegory stuff, like the "the monster needs permission to get you it needs you to do something "'wrong'" " - you need to go towards the creepy sound, you need to have premarital sex for jason to kill you, you have to make a mistake. Pale sorta touches on this a little bit, but Pact seems to revolve around it, and be dedicated to deconstructing it and asking questions about "is this horrific fate actually the character's fault if they were fucked either way?".

• The horror allegory stuff for Blake specifically. Like I think the arc nine chapter where Blake realises/discovers he's a vestige is one of my favourite wb chapters so far? The fact that things immediately become paradoxically easier for Blake, with descriptions of his body feeling lighter and pain/fear being easier to deal with, because he's fundamentally gone from being a horror movie victim to being a horror movie monster, was so good.

• Evan.

• I liked Alister a lot more than I thought I would. He got introduced as this sleazy proto-Laird asshole, but he arrived in the story too late to get a chance to really grow into that (mainly since there were too many demons in the way? or maybe it was just that Peter outshone him). Was arguably was the leading force in getting Rose and Blake to work together, dealing the biggest and most important win against the Barber.

• The arc six interlude. Just, the idea of Ur basically just being a hole in reality, with their physical form just being material that they are eating slightly slower, strategically shaping it so that it forms whatever body they need. The descriptions of shadow demons in that chapter were just ridiculously cool in general.

• A lot of pact, especially in the later chapters, was gripping in a way that other wildbow stories aren't. Ruined my sleep pattern.

• The ending. The whole concept of "yeah we're an awful family are fighting each other all the time, to the point where there's a universe sized force has set things up so that we're going to destroy each other, but we're going to put get through that and overcome it". The idea of The fact that Blake unambiguously survives despite everything, and gets exactly what he wanted. The fact that Rose Jr is so deeply optimistic in the face of demons and diabolism in general.

Some stuff I didn't like.

• There were a bunch of plot points or story elements that seemingly had, like, no staying power? Like conquest is built up as this big villain who rep

Ana, Lian, Sean and he had been playing video games for the past half hour. They’d been a great distraction from the shitstorm that was probably going on back home. He sighed. “Man, this is really not the best game.”

Sean laughed at him and quipped, “On the contrary, this is fantastic! This is the first game where you and Ana haven’t immediately wiped the floor with us normals.”

Matt groaned and asked, “Can we go back to something I have a chance on?”

Ana reached for the table in front of him and said, “Give me that controller, Matt. I’ll defend your honor.” Lian giggled at the comment as he picked up the controller.

Sean looked at Matt’s tablet as it chimed again. He chuckled and asked, “When did you get so popular?”
