A list of puns related to "Prison Commissary"
tl;dr: a small faction of the QAnon movement believes that 29yr old Phoenix-area IT guy Austin Steinbart is the actual "Q" who writes all the "insider" messages for the movement. The majority of r/Conspiracy overall is not really down with Q, but for some weird reason a disproportionate chunk of Q followers on Conspo are of the Steinbart faction. So the popcorn is always good as they endlessly squabble as to whether Q is Austin Steinbart, Austin is a liar but Q is legit, or if the whole thing is just malarkey.
Okay, so at this point I'm assuming everyone knows at least the basics of QAnon. So this anon on 4chan (later moved to 8chan then 8kun), posted claiming to be an undercover operative in the Trump administration, authorized to leak the details of how Trump is fighting a counter-coup against a "Deep State" composed of (mostly) Democrats who are literal Satanic pedophile cannibals. So that's the gist. If you want a detailed writeup from the inside perspective, here's a pretty decent summation from the main Q supporter on Conspo.
The QAnon movement has been a "big tent" phenomenon that manages to group all kinds of diverse theories into the Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory. So the movement has relatively mainstream "Dems are trying to undermine Trump" Breitbart types, lots of "Trump is preparing the world for the Second Coming" Evangelical types, and then all kinds of anti-vaxxers, anti-5G, Ancient Aliens fans, healing crystal, NESARA/GESARA (global economic reset) believers, etc. There's a wide body of QAnon pundits on social media, some of whom are full-time commentators funded by crowdsourcing, all with different gimmicks and focuses, but generally they avoid stepping on each others' toes.
Enter Austin Steinbart: Austin is a 29yr old married (for now) guy who owns his own small IT business in the Phoenix area (not doxxing, he's a public figure). By early 2020 Austin was a relatively minor Q pundit, mostly among the lines of the Tom Clancy-esque faction, talked a lot about how Trump is being impeded by the CIA and FBI because he won't let them pull shady shenanigans, and soon he'll purge them. Then around spring 2020 just as Covid was kicking off, Austin suddenly announces that he himself is Q. Well, sort of, in that he claims "Q" is Austin but in the year 2050, when he's commander

After a certain time, usually after dinner, we will walk in a pod (a pod is a group of cells or a group of bunks; we also do a pod walkthrough once every hour. So we go through every pod, see if we can see anything illegal or make sure inmates are still breathing.) and at least one reeks of burning paper from where they will rip pages out of their bibles and roll up tobacco.
If we allowed them to have cigarettes, what we could do is up charge the cigarettes, them when they buy a pack, we write it on a sheet saying who has cigarettes, how many are in the pack, and number the packs. Then when they go out for rec, an officer could have the cigarette packs in a cart and people can get a lighter and any amount of cigarettes they want out of their pack (dont give them the whole pack so they can't sneak them in). Thenwe could mark down how many cigarettes a person took, how many's still in their pack, and who took a lighter. At the end of rec, we take all the lighters back.
I know their in jail but they're still people and jail can be very stressful. Having three cigarettes a day would chill a lot of the guys in there out and would make them want to cooperate with us more. And would eliminate a lot of the contraband coming in. Would we still get people sneaking in tobacco? Of course. But not nearly as much.
Such as peanutbutter or a pack of peanuts. For 2.50 I'm imagining you get about 2 cups, is that right?
Or does it happen automatically if you use a service like CDBaby or Distrokid?
Suddenly, Voldermort screams at an old man alone in a corner, "You wouldn't be here if you appreciated stealth, Mr ho-ho-ho from the rooftops."
The tooth fairy realizes the outcast is Santa Claus, and separates himself from the undesirables to approach him, asking, "Kind Sir, what did you do to end up among this bunch?"
"I wrecked some chimneys while spreading joy," responded the jolly old fellow with a twinkle in his eye.
Noting Nick's substantial weight, while also spurred by professional curiosity, the tooth fairy asked, " How did you get yourself plus the sack of gifts in the chimney?"
Smirking, Santa replied, "Oh no, the sack remained up top, only the tip could fit in the chimney."
I know this is a massively messed up situation. A year after we were married my husband was involved in a criminal activity. After a really long trial he was given 5 years (with no credit for time served, which is rare) so with good behavior he'll be out in about 2 years from now.
Since this isn't a common question, I'll just explain what commissary is. Basically it's like Amazon inside the prison where they order things like snacks, soap, razors and depending on status books and magazines. There's two ways to fund commisary accounts, he can work (he lost his job because he got into a fight) or people on the outside can fund the account. I've been putting money in ever since he went in.
I got an automated call from DOC last week that my debit card had been rejected and Dylan's commissary would not have enough to cover his order for the week. I looked on my account and saw that the payment had gone through. I figured it was a mistake but I brought it up with Dylan at visitation this week.
It was there he revealed that since he lost his job, he needs extra money for commissary because he uses it for safety and that he'd had no choice but to reach out to his ex-girlfriend for extra money. I was devastated because I've stood by him through all this. I know for a fact it wasn't just friendly banter and he's probably promising her that he will be with her when he gets out. I told him that he's cheating on me. He said it's not cheating because he can't actually touch her and that he has to do what he has to do to survive. I told him I'd give him more money but he said that it's better to do it this way because its harder for DOC to be in his business.
Our time was up and like always, we didn't leave with any clarity on this situation. he usually has ipad time on Monday nights and for the first time since he's been away he didn't use it to call me and I haven't heard from him.
I'm just devastated, I feel terrible because I don't know what he said to her but I consider it cheating. She lives really close so I guess I could go talk to her and figure out whats going on. I just feel like this is another horrible knock in a situation that is so hard for me and I know I don't know really what he goes through but he could have asked me for more money, he could have asked his family, he could have done a million things before taking money from her.

So much freaking back story here itβs not even funny. I married my HS boyfriend when we were both 18. It was a truly toxic trip that included everything bad under the sun. Married for 6 years until he was sentenced to 57 year felony sentence with no possibility for parole. I divorced him and literally moved across the country to get away from his family. Having said that, I still love him. Itβs not a healthy love, but itβs still there.
He remarried in prison, I remarried to a great man, now have wonderful kids and a literal suburban white picket fence life that is light years from my past. Two years ago I got a letter from my ex husband that heβd been severely beat up in prison and needed βjust a little bit of commissary money to get him out of trouble. Two years later and I have sent him $150 a month every month. Iβm lying to my current husband saying that the money is going to pay for my counseling.
Ex tells me all the time this will be the last time he asks but then says heβs in trouble and has to buy his way out. I have zero doubts he is in trouble, I donβt ask details.
Am I being the asshole here or am I really helping out a vulnerable person who needs help?
Please, please give it to me straight.
I know this isn't really related to reducing the sentencing of convicts but I think this issue probably greatly effects the population and can really decrease morale if prices are really high, there's poor selection and limited quantity.
From what I understand, if inmates partake in "in-house" jobs, from outside contractor employment, to jobs w/n the prison, that they get their pay added to their accounts which they can then spend in the prison stores. Is this a fair understanding of the situation? Also, I'm assuming that family/friends can put money into their accounts to spend in the stores. This reminds me of a more extreme version of summer camp stores - expensive and sparse choice.
-Can inmates make special requests for items?
-How much more expensive are the items compared to the average price on the outside, and I'm not really talking about convenience store pricing (like 7-11 or something), b/c those are always much more expensive than grocery stores.
-Are the commissaries designed as a profit making mechanism - like a commercial/retail store - or are they run to provide needed supplies at reasonable prices?
-Is there a major difference in state run/owned prisons vs private "for profit" prisons in the average price of items sold at the stores - and if so, what kind of difference is there between the two. Do we see a 80-500% increase (in for profit prisons) in price over state run prisons - or are they more reasonable.
I've heard stories of inmates having to work an entire day - 8 hours to buy a pack of ramen noodles, a slim jim and a juice box (6-8oz). IDK if that is an exageration or not
I'm trying to find out about this b/c reforming this aspect of prison would, IMO, maybe help overall morale in prison and possibly reduce tension inside? I know how people get when they can't get even basic necessities and it's even worse when it's available but out of reach b/c of outrageous pricing structure - this just creates internal pressure that builds - even though it might not be recognized as a source. I wonder how many fights result due to the scarcity of goods available at the store(s) but are unobtainable.
Finally, any information on how care packages are managed, if they are allowed and how security is implemented on these packages, is there a list of pre-approved items that can be sent or can most anything be sent that is not contraband or dangerous?
HEARTBREAK, is whenever you go to prison and all those people who say they love you, forget you. You got no mail and no commissary money. Then when you get out and get back on Facebook. They like Heyyyy!! Man FU!!!
