Posse Comitatus Puns

Does this episode get enough credit? On my some # rewatch and this episode always gets me in all the emotional places.

Mostly, because of The special agent (Mark Harmon) is killed. But also the hard moral choice made about Shareef.

We do get some talk about “Crime, boy, I don’t know”. For me, it’s the whole damn episode. Right in the feels.

Rewatched last night.

I just love the last three minutes of this episode. The song itself is already great, (is that song even available anywhere?) but combined with the clips of Shareef being assassinated and the waiting between Fitz, Leo and President Bartlet makes it more special. I think it’s one of my favorite endings. I always rewind it at least once.

I’d continue on and watch 20 Hours in America, but I want to start the Newsroom.

There's a guy in the scene in Bermuda who kind of looks like Danny, but it doesn't make sense that it would be him. Is it him?

So one frustrating thing about this episode is why was Donovan in a Korean grocery at 98th & Broadway. It makes absolutely no sense if they were at a Broadway show.

Theater district is In the time square / 40s-50s area and Lincoln Center is in the late 60s-70s.

There is absolutely no need for him to travel 30-50 blocks north to get to a Milky Way and Rose at a bodega.

Just rewatching the final episode of season 3 Posse Comitatus, and is again confirmed, that this is my favorite episode of the series.

So in response to recent events, here’s a fun mental exercise.

In Trump’s press conference today, he threatened to send federal military forces into cities and states unwilling to stop the political violence and protesting.

Gov. Brown is allowing the national guard to support OR state police for the protests tonight, but doesn’t want the national guard deployed in a policing capacity.

Trump’s notion here is that if states like OR continue to be affected with rioting, he will supersede those governors wishes of those states and deploy the national guard.

On its surface, this is contravened by the Posse Comitatus act of 1878, but President Eisenhower already established a precedent for the national guard being called in to enforce the peace, and federal law, during the school segregation crisis in Little Rock in 1958.

In 2011, President Obama amended the insurrection act to make the indefinite detention of citizens allowed if they are actively engaged or associated with Al-queda, taliban, or “forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States”. link

Earlier this week Trump and his lackey AG Barr, declared Antifa a terrorist organization link . With the wildly loose definitions of domestic terrorism brought forth by the patriot act link

Trump has built upon the work of several presidents before him, and now has the conditions for mass, indefinite detentions at any protest related to this strife or future strife. It will be up to protestors to prove they are not Antifa to escape this or detention.

This is how authoritarian fascism wins in the US.

Watching these episodes again, it is remarkable how easy it is to get completely absorbed in this show... These are two of my very favorite episodes along with the 2 episodes 20 hours in America (Amy Adams!! Yes please!)

Anyway on this rewatch I had a couple of questions:

1. What is the reference Leo makes to Fitzwalace when they are discussing the Bermuda Triangle? Leo says he thought it was like Toscanini in the corn field. What does that mean?

2. Fitz tells the President in the situation room killing Sharif can't be military, quoting Posse Comitatus, yet in the end it is military, how can that be?

3. Side note I loved Donovan and C.J... the way they kill him off makes me sad, he should have known to clear the room!!

I’m sure most of you have noticed this since a lot of people on here have rewatched this show 27184 times, (someday I’ll be one of those people), but I finished watching Posse Comitatus on my rewatch and I just noticed the song Bartlet is telling Stanley about that he’s trying to remember is the song that’s played at the end...

I’m slow it’s fine.

Also I really like this episode. Not that I didn’t before, but it just hit me differently this time around. Although Simon’s death did hurt me more.

Every time I see people arguing on JRE, Tucker Carlson, MSNBC about their concern or inclination in bringing Army to stop looting or anything I end up shouting POSSE COMITATUS why would you not mention it.

What.an.episode.

Watched it again last night. It is such an epic finale.

The emotional ride of watching CJ and Simon hit it off, watching her finally move on with a man, just to see him murdered doing what he did best: protect others

The arc of watching President Bartlet battle with his own moral compass: he knows that killing Abdul Sheeref is wrong, just plain wrong - but as Leo tells him - 'you won' - President Bartlet cannot afford to let his own moral compass get in the way of the moral compass of the Presidency
