Does anyone know of a link or platform that is streaming this version of Lear? Iβm so desperate - McKellenβs performance is supposed to be incredible but I canβt seem to find it online anywhere
Hi everybody,
I just recently moved to Accra and saw a billbord promoting a play of the National Theatre. But the National Theatre's website sadly has no event calender or list of plays or something. Does anybody know where I can find out when which play is presented? Also I heard that there is supposedly both a Symphony Orchestra and an Opera Company located in Accra, but I could find neither in the internet. Do they exist, and if they do where can I find them?
Thank you in advance for your help!
I went to watch Dune yesterday at a cinema in Lahore. I've only been to the cinema in Pakistan maybe once or twice before but yesterday it got me thinking: why do they play Pak Serzameen before movie screenings?
A quick Google search brought up no results. At first I thought this might be a continuation from British colonial rule (they played God Save the Queen before screenings which continued in the UK until the 70s), but if that is the case why didn't India as well? India introduced this in the early 2000s and since 2018 they are no longer compulsory.
So I'm mainly interested in the reason to why it's played. Beyond that I'm interested to know if people from this sub are for it, against it, or indifferent about it. Personally, I don't see the point in playing it, especially not for international films.
When I was a kid, everyone rose during the anthem.
It was just an audio recording then, but later they showed these stirring anthem film clips. This one / Another example
But in the 1970s, a few people stopped standing for it, and arguments broke out. So they stopped it. (At least, that's what I think happened.)
Does anyone have any further info.
