In the UK we mainly eat beef and not veal, yet we also mainly eat lamb and not mutton, why is this?
Surely if lamb tastes better than mutton then veal would also taste better than beef? so why the vast difference in popularity?

TIL that in 1876 a meat storm fell from the sky for a period of 7 minutes, covering a 100 by 50 yard field. Enough to fill a large wagon. Looked like beef/bear, tasted like mutton, venison or lamb.

What's an idiom similar to 'mutton dressed as lamb' or the word 'veiled threat'?
Mutton dressed as lamb: An ageing woman who is dressed or made up as if much younger.
Veiled threat: where a warning, attack, reference etc is expressed so that its exact meaning is hidden or unclear.
The idiom/saying/phrase/action/something I'm looking for is similar to those two meanings. Does anyone know any similar ones? Or if there is a word to describe them? Obviously it has nothing to do with old women; I just chose that as an example because the general idea of disguised deception is relevant.
Lamb/Mutton neck or shoulder?
Hi /r/meat. This is my first post here so apologies if I fuck it up.
Basically this weekend I'm going to the butcher for some meat to make Scotch broth with. My mum said that I should just ask for lamb bones, but I was wondering, having never bought either neck or shoulder (of lamb or mutton), which of those you prefer to use and which is better quality and/or has a higher chance of better meat on it?
