A list of puns related to "Japanese Occupation Of Indonesia"
My grandfather (opa) is Dutch-Indonesian. I'm a writer and I'm planning a trip to visit and interview him about his experiences in general over the course of his life, but I'm hoping to get him to talk about the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, which he lived through and doesn't like to discuss. Can you guys help me think of some tactful questions to ask him? Thank you.
My only real exposure is from brief coverage by Dower in "War Without Mercy". The picture painted there is of an occupying force that came in preaching pan-Asianism, and initially even offering improvement, but quickly falling into a racial superiority complex and lording over the local population as inferior children. I'd love to know more specifics though.

Around the same time, the Japanese also invaded Hong Kong, Dutch Indies, The Philippines, Thailand, and Shanghai, and attacked Pearl Harbor.
Is korean culture still leg or It has been brutally repressed?
Hi /r/indonesia! I'm from /r/philippines and I'm curious about Indonesian culture. One thing I'd like to know is what do you think about people's jobs in your culture, like do people think certain professions are more prestigious than others, or do people not consciously think about this.
In the Philippines I think I'd rank the prestige of professions as follows:
First tier - Lawyers, Doctors (with lawyers probably being more prestigious), Entrepreneurs
Second tier - Clergy, Military
Third tier - Police, other white collar workers (everything from IT to university professors)
Fourth tier - Blue collar work
Sorry if this is badly worded. Iโm asking if US soldiers ever fought in Vietnam during WW2
Sup, apparently this was a thing and from a news webshites of all place. It'll be a quick one because this is my first medium sized post, the following include translation of some of the most questionable part of the blog.
>When the Japanese landed in 1942, the Japanese banned the usage of Dutch and all things that is western. Japan wishes to free Indonesia from Dutch and western imperialism.
By replacing it with japanese imperialism.
I actually wanna talk about this incase y'all doesn't know, there is a propaganda campaign named "Gerakan tiga A" that depicts the Japanese as "saviour and liberator" the slogan is roughly translated from Indonesian as
Nippon enlightenment of Asia Nippon liberator of Asia Nippon protector of Asia
Now if this slogan sounds abit familiar this is the exact excuse colonial power used when colonizing Africa and Asia. Again totally different from those wEstERN IMpEriaList !1!1!1
Now to the next part
>The introduction of positive Japanese culture. The Japanese race is known as a discipline race, this discipline is also mandatory for Indonesian. In schools, children are taught nippon seishin or military training and Japanese spirit
Because following YAMATO DAMASHII would lead to discipline instead of two nukes and a boatload of massacres.
But seriously the Japanese attempt at brainwashing Indonesian was thorough as evident with certain subset of Indonesia that supported the Japanese because they are "responsible" for our independence and being colonized by Asian is better than colonized by European.
There's also the part where Japanese is responsible for the Indonesian constitution and how the Indonesian armed force is descended from Japanese colonial defence organisation, but I'm not covering that because how Indonesian revolutionary collaborated with the Japanese is a long and complicated topic that I'm not qualified nor have the time to tackle.
Well I think that's it, I'll post another one if I stumbled into another Indonesian wehraboo.
Also, I would love to know if anyone has any recommended reading or sources regarding Japanese administration over conquered territory. Thanks!
