CW: In this entire thread, slutshaming, insults.
So.... Jae did it again.
This time, it was calling Jamie (Park Jimin, k-pop soloist a thot on livestream. Or more accurately, "Why is Jamie trying to be a thot?"

This isn't the first time that Jae's been in the news for some not so nice reasons and we'd like to keep them all together in this thread, as one incident begets a million posts and discussions. Frankly, there's a lot to unpack here and trying to keep it under a 3 day rule would be impossible. Please keep it civil and remember that you're free to disagree or disapprove of someone's interpretation but you still need to be civil.
We're also aware that he has a few different mental health conditions/diagnoses such as ADHD and depression and there will inevitably be discussion around these issues. Mental health shaming, being ableist, and stigmatizing these or other conditions against him or other users is not allowed and will result in action taken by mods, including bans.
Note: For those not in the know, a thot is a slang term for a woman who has many casual sexual encounters or relationships. In this context, it is highly likely to be not complimentary and actually very insulting.
##NO POSTS ABOUT JAE, HIS INTERNET ACTIVITY, OR ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT HIM FOR 5 DAYS.
Jamie just posted on Twitter that she was hurt about what Jae said, it wasnβt an inside joke between friends. Even if she didnβt speak out the comment still wouldnβt have been okay to say. Especially since he acknowledged that itβs not something he wouldβve been able to say as an βidolβ (he knew it was bad) and Jamie has said in the past she doesnβt like to be sexualized.
Every time Jae does something that receives criticism on this sub a day or two later people come to his rescue and defend him saying itβs because of his βmental healthβ or it was just a βmisunderstandingβ. Jaes an almost 30 year old grown man heβs not devoid of criticism and heβs capable of doing bad things.
EDIT: Jae has apologized on Twitter. I hope he also gave her a private apology and only released this with her approval. A notes app apology by tagging her on Twitter is awfulβ¦
This is a megathread for all comments about Jae. All posts about him made outside this thread within 48 hours will be redirected here.

Hi,
I would like to open this discussion again cause I strongly believe that the clip shared was taken out of context as intent to defame and that the actual context of the clip changes it's meaning completely. This isn't first time it has happened to him either, there was clip claiming he is antivax and kpop stans jumping on him over, that happened just two months ago.
So the big topic of kpop fandom since new year has been Jae leaving Day6 and calling kpop on following stream kids pop? But maybe he didn't do that?
The stream was of him streaming public Rust February 2021 and talking to chat that mostly consists of Day6 fans (who can't be described as kpop hating incels). This was before whole "sugar daddy" incident and him having to stop streaming.
Now on the clip that was shared. Easiest and most credible way to rebuke this would be to find actual stream with chat and share it, however this is not possible as only people who downloaded it back then to their PC's would have a copy.
However, there is people who were present at the time and they have provided context for the clip as it was Jae answering to them (whats better way to make kpop fan to remember a moment?). Here is the explanation for it (following replys and qrts have more of people who were present): https://twitter.com/it_salad/status/1477322804857028613
Basically:
- Jae's twitch mod told him he could get around twitch's DMCA by playing kidspop versions of kpop songs as they are covers. Just look at youtube, they exist.
- Jae didn't want to do that so he told chat to listen to their kpop and kidspop elsewhere.
- He said he didn't want to anger anyone cause one of his twitch chat's rules was to avoid talking about other kpop grops and if he played kidspop version of kpop songs- maybe the stans wouldn't rly liked that either?
Now the person behind the clip that was cut and presented in way like Jae was bashing kpop as music genre is actually same who took the "sugar daddy" clip from stream of Jae's friend and shared it on twitter. There is reason she posted this from almost year old stream the first day Jae is out of Day6. There is pretty large fandom drama going about her on twitter as she has been part of some of most damaging dramas about Jae. She changed her account name and protected it, but ofc the dmg is already done.
For now it seems impossible to retrieve the actual stream and maybe this explanation is hard to
... keep reading on reddit β‘βI wanted to make an apology to Jamie and everyone about what I said. It was most definitely a comment made in poor taste and I feel terrible for making jamie feel the way she does. What I thought was friendly banter I now realize wasn't. In no way was I referencing any kind of physical behavior or energy (trying to take a slight at jamie) but rather the aura of what people refer to as a βbaddie" and thought the two were synonymous, however I do understand that this is in no way an excuse for my comment. My sincerest apologies to Jamie as well as to everyone who was hurt by it.β
Why would he claim he does not know what βThotβ means when he is Native English speaker? It seems He is making excuses.
Recently, a year-old video of Jae, formerly of DAY6, referring to k-pop as kidzbop music went around, and some of the reactions in this community were downright mean and disappointing, to say the least. I want to ask y'all to be careful how you talk about people you don't know on the internet. Honestly? There was some bullying going on in there, with the people invalidating his mental health struggles, his career of choice now, his struggles as an idol, and even tossing names around and calling him an 'incel' and 'pick-me'.
Y'all. That clip is a year old, and Jae has obviously been going Through It recently. I don't even listen to Day6 regularly, but please, have some empathy for the man! Jae's gone through the industry, and it must be tough for him as a Korean-American living in Korea, trying to balance both identities.
(Also, friendly reminder that idol music is marketed to teens and young adults in S. Korea and he just may not have been happy with the kind of musical output he was producing at the time. His comment wasn't the friendliest, but it still doesn't excuse the way y'all were talking about him.)
I get it, it sucks to hear someone disparage something you love and something that's brought you comfort. But it's his right to feel a type of way about a genre of music, and it's totally okay to respectfully disagree with someone's comments. However, bringing up a one-off comment someone made a year ago and being hateful is not okay.
I didn't really follow his controversies from the start. I know some stuff like he said a lot of things about the dark side of Kpop but his recent behaviour with Jamie is the only thing that blew up and reached my twitter tl. And i can't stop questioning like what exactly does he get from this?
He knows how big the kpop fans and still he tries so hard to be cancelled, like i don't get it, whyyy??? Why do you want to be cancelled so bad?
So if you don't know Jae has left day 6 .
He has called kpop kidzbop music.
When a fan on his streaming channel asked him to play a kpop song, he replied with something along the lines of "no I won't play that music, I don't wanna anger anybody, you guys can go listen to your kidzbop somewhere else. "
This is so ridiculous on Jay's part.
In my opinion, since in the West it's "trendy" and "quirky" to shit on kpop especially a huge chunk of American streamer's community.
And since jay is trying to become a streamer who interacts with these American streamers and is trying to build an audience there. He is trying to fit into that group by shitting on something that up until a day ago he was a part of.
This just shows Jay's jealousy towards those who are doing well in kpop. Just because his music or group didn't exceed or succeed in the way he wanted doesn't mean that he has to go around making fun of korean music.
It's damn unprofessional on his part. He made kpop music for years while being a part of a kpop band. Does that mean that he was also making kidzbop music!!!!?
Like if you've left kpop, good for you but what's wrong with leaving in a respectful way.
He's so immature, and than his fans are gonna be like oh well he suffered while he was in kpop and bla bla bla.
Which I get it ok, it must've have been tough for him, doesn't mean that he has to go around calling it kidzbop, what about his own groups music, what about his friends who are a part of kpop .
Ok you are salty but ain't nothing wrong with not speaking for once.
Edit : ok just got to know that he said this almost a year ago, it still doesn't change anything I mean it makes it worse that he was saying these things publicly while still being a part of a kpop group.
So twitter is having a day with Jae coz he called Jimin a 'th0t'
Initially I thought it was some harmless (tho kinda mean) insult/banter between the both of them but seeing Jamie's tweets kinda gave me the impression that Jae crossed the line this time.
I'm curious about this sub's opinions on the issue.
edit: he posted an apology
edit 2 because i can: honestly i had to look up what the word meant and when i saw that it has been labelled as a 'derogatory' term, i had a feeling that jae went a bit too far. jamie's tweets confirmed it for me. im not even angry im just disappointed for him to be so unaware of these things even at 29 years old. it's been only 10 days since his contract with jyp ended and him trying to start his solo career through crowdfunding via twitch but here he is just ruining everything with his words and actions. i've unfollowed him on twitch, twitter and insta and i honestly don't hope for a OT5 reunion anymore. this affected me quite a bit because he was the one who introduced me to day6 and for me to see him becoming a person like this... pretty shocking. i mean i enjoy dark humour/insult humour (i follow tmg too) but this ain't it chief.
also, i expected him, as an ex-polisci major to be more careful of the words he uses (since words can have different semantics and pragmatics in them and it is imperative that each word is to be used under the right setting) but i guess i was wrong. should have also not brushed away the moment when he declared that he is an asshole in one of his streams
TW: mental health
What he's said and done is unpopular, worded poorly, and so I'm not here to excuse any of that. I do see a lot of people claim he's a loser and pathetic and corny based on a recent tattoo he got
The tattoo is debut date to date of contract ending. And the way the tattoo looks has got people saying it's so bad, and so unprofessional, ugly, etc.
And I'm just wondering why people think it needs to be beautiful? It's clearly a tattoo that holds a lot of meaning if he's to get it done like that. It looks like a tattoo that represent pain and suffering - at least from the colour itself, and the personal handwriting that might even be his own.
I think people forget tattoos are done for personal reasons and not to be a walking aesthetic billboard for everyone's pleasure.
In general, I get the feeling his mental health isn't in the best place. People keep calling his actions "loser behaviour' because of the dislike/contempt he holds for the industry... yet I have the feeling it's due to things he's gone through. I don't think such bitterness for an industry would rise up out of nowhere. Was it worded the best way? No, but I don't think we should deny his experiences.
And I hope stepping away will give him some respite. It doesn't excuse what he's said or done but I have the feeling he needs help, based on what he's said. He has reasons for why he feels this way.
He is clearly not having a good time in kpop and is suffering because of it.

I'm sure there's been dozens of posts about this but I want to know if I'm being reasonable here or if I'm in denial and blinded by my prior feelings on him. I feel confident posting this here because I feel like it'll be the least likely to get toxic of any sort. What Jae did was completely not okay and out of line, but he gets that. I see so many people dragging him endlessly everywhere I go and it's overwhelming, for even me. While I'm somewhat conflicted on how I feel fully, one thing that annoys me is people getting pressed over the "insincerity" of his apologies. He apologized to Jamie on twitter, saying it straight out, and people are criticizing him for not apologizing enough, but they get just as mad when someone tries to apologize more because it's "too much". To me his apology was a very reasonable way to phrase it, written, I'm sure, with a very large amount of worry and guilt. The second one is his apology later live on twitch. People have criticized it for its lack of substance in sorts. essentially he just says "I really fucked up" a couple time and then ends stream, very visibly disheveled. I've never fucked up on this level, but I absolutely know the feeling of offending someone strongly and regretting it like he clearly is, and my inner monologue is almost identical to what he said and did on stream apologizing. I don't get panic attacks or have anxiety but I have some level of an idea of what they are like and what can cause them. In situations like this, just the self judgement and knowing how the other person feels is bad enough, I can't imagine going on twitter and seeing thousands of people judging and criticizing your decisions, especially with Jae's mental and emotional state. So while I'm not defending what he did, I wish people would back off on calling him out on it. At this point I'm sure he very much understands what he did, he doesn't need more people telling him. As for Jae himself, I think his behavior on stream could've been much better gone about, it's his fault he said those things, but I don't think he's completely to blame. I can imagine the freedom he must have felt from returning to streaming and leaving JYPE and he got carried away and egged on by the chat's incel-type energy he gathered from his time associating with OTV and friends in the past (that's not a jab at the ccs themselves they just have some very vocal unsavory viewers, not their fault) and he said some stuff he regrets. I think it'd be best for Jae to
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm tired of seeing takes like "he didn't mean it" when he's repeatedly said off-color stuff because he wants to be """"authentic"""" like you don't see other non-idol korean singers saying stuff like this. he obviously does it to fit in with the twitch crowd. and what's even sadder is that he's making fun of you! as kpop fans! but you treat it as omg he's just so real π« none of that disney channel shit π€ treat me like i'm stupid for being your fan pls π»
also very tired of people diagnosing him saying he's mentally ill that's why he's said this stuff. first of all i am neurodivergent and not all mentally ill people put their foot in their mouth this often, they don't insult people to make us feel superior. and stop acting like he's in the middle of a psychotic episode and that's he acts like this. the man is a grown adult! you're not his mother! you're not his doctor! stop speaking for his about his mental health, whether he was having a bad episode when he said this or that. and stop acting like jyp kicked him out when he's talked about again and again how much he didn't like being an idol. the man is an adult and he made the decision to leave himself. can't yall see how insulting it is to treat him like he's a child who can't do anything by himself? anyways stop babying and diagnosing idols!
not good man
