We are on a budget so money is an issue. But I’m also feeling insane about the house. I’m a SAHM -with just one baby. Even if I don’t rest when the 10 month old is resting (sometimes mommy needs a nap too!) all I manage to get done during naps is the basics - dishes/laundry/a quick bathroom wipe down. Our house badly needs a good cleaning, or two, or three. My partner works super long hours and I feel like if he’s home I need his skills for more little project style things (clogged sink etc.).
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting cleaners, but also am feeling guilty about the money. Does anyone get regular cleaners? How did you budget for it? Did you find it helped with the house anxiety?
This just seems like a missed opportunity 😂
Friday is housecleaning day. It’s so easy for me to get “triggered” when I clean.
I have always been fastidious about cleaning — actually, somewhere between “banshee” and “Joan Crawford”. My parents decided that my younger sister and I were going to be the “family maids” so we were washing the dishes, cooking, doing the laundry, cleaning the bathroom by the time we were seven and six, respectively. (There was also the problem that our mother was drinking a case of beer a day and mixing all that with prescription medication. How she didn’t OD is anyone’s guess.)
Did any of you see the movie “Mommie Dearest”? It’s supposed to be a camp classic, but it’s intensely triggering for me. Our mother was not about to lift a finger to help with the housework, but she was going to “encourage” us by screaming like Joan Crawford (and that’s a good analogy) while my sister and I were working.
When we were cleaning, we could not eat (it would dirty dishes), drink (it would dirty glasses) or use the bathroom (it would dirty the toilet and sink).
My parents are both dead. I’m actually grateful for that. Not getting the house clean enough meant getting the crap beaten out of me by my father. (Being 15 minutes late feeding the dog one evening earned me a broken jaw.)
Our house needs to be scrupulously clean when I clean, now. I have IPF, which is an autoimmune disease which gradually destroys the lungs. If there is even a little bit of mildew or mold, it can trigger a spasm in my airway which can put me in the hospital.
When I’m cleaning, the ghosts of my parents appear: my mother, screaming “CLEAN IT! CLEAN IT! CLEAN IT!”; and my father in the background, his countenance like a supercell thunderstorm. And boom!: it’s 60 years ago, in first-person, present tense, all over again.
I retired two months ago, so I no longer have to clean in three hours before I go to work. Here are some things I’m doing now:
- I take my time and build in breaks.
- I have some favorite flavored water drinks and keep hydrated.
- I use the dishwasher and run the load after I eat lunch.
- The toilet and the tub are the last things I clean. If I have to use the bathroom while cleaning the rest of the house, I can.
- It has to be clean: it doesn’t have to be perfect.
- If I drop something and it breaks - that’s what a broom and a dustpan are for. If I spill something - that’s what a rag and a mop are for.
- WITHOUT FAIL, I treat myself to dinner out at a favor
Looking for a reliable housecleaner. I would like to initially do a deep clean and then set up monthly cleanings.

Finally decided to pull the trigger on the Duo 15 SE (which means I now have a LOT of laptop groups to leave haha)
Just wondering if there are any tips anyone would recommend to get the most out of the machine, or if there's any QC issues I should be prepared for (anything UK specific?).
Just previously spending a week with the G15, I plan to do all the relevant tips in the G14 subreddit, but I'd love some advice from people who actually own this device (or the previous version, can't imagine much of a difference besides temps and battery life)

I've managed to create what I'm calling the 'Perfect Student Mode'. I've managed to configure the silent profile in a way so that the fans don't kick on, the CPU stays at ~30'C, the dGPU doesn't power on and the battery life is extended.
I'd make a guide if anyone is interested, but I am yet to learn how badly this will affect performance, hence why I've only configured it under the 'Silent' preset
Personal practice note: this is exactly what worked for me in my own practice, for what it's worth...
So, you've really, truly, actually established a daily, non-heroic sitting practice... and you do an occasional day-long/weekend-long home retreat during each month or so... and you don't have many opportunities but you've been on a few multi-day retreats and have made a lot of progress during them... but now you're stuck practicing at home and it seems kinda futile to make progress. The stages aren't obvious anymore, sits are unpredictable, there's no sense of much progress any more...
(First, it's important remember how far you have come. Remember when you couldn't sit an hour? Remember when you couldn't maintain a regular practice? Remember when you couldn't do a day-long retreat? Remember when you were scared instead of looking forward to your next retreat? You've come a long way. You've made progress. Progress will continue, just like it has in the past.)
You've probably have experienced all the Progress of Insight nanas in some way. But merely experiencing them is different from the true "knowledge of" the nanas. You sorta know about the dark night nanas of Dissolution, Fear, Misery, Disgust, Desire for Deliverance, and Reobservation... but you still kinda hate them. You know about Equanimity but you have trouble dwelling in EQ. And everytime you spend time in EQ for a while, you seem to get sent back into the dukka nanas again. What's the deal?
Maybe that big experience was actually Stream Entry and now you're cycling? Yeah!!!!! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Don't believe it. It's very easy to create fantasies of progress to cover-up our feelings of lack of progress. Don't do it. Just be honest and clear: you have made progress but now you're feeling stuck.

First post, the longest lurker! I don't share this story nearly enough. Probably because the time frame correlates with a not so positive time in my life.
This takes place in 2016, pretty soon into the new year. I was cleaning houses for a radical small company in Seattle, WA. Most of my experiences were really positive. I met some great people. Helping people by cleaning and organizing is where it's at, the job was hard on the body, but pretty fun all together.
I had recently been given a new client, Mark. Mark was living with some disabilities and mental handicaps in a very small (500 sq ft) apartment in the U-district, (west of the 45th street exit for anyone reading who's familiar.) Mark had a brother, who between Marks state assistance and a estate left over from their deceased parents, paid for his apartment, utilities, food etc...
The apartment complex is at the very least 40 years old. I would call, Mark would come down and open a small gate in the alley I parked in and we'd go up the elevator together. The elevator is ANCIENT! It takes a long time to arrive, its small, like 2 phone booths put together. Its tucked into a corner, it has the metal gates that maneuver before the doors properly open and close. The bell has a very original and pleasing "tink" sound, the lights are dim and yellow, the floor is a funky yellow laminate. It's important to remember I only ever used the elevator. I didn't know where the stairs were located in the building. The elevator is located about 5 doors down from his.
The first time I met Mark was at this gate. I couldn't reach his phone, and had to call my company, have them call his brother, all the while I'm still trying to get ahold of him. I actually started to pack my stuff back up when I was told he was awake and would come and let me in. He introduced himself, I introduced myself. He only had one shoe on, and his bare foot was HUGE. It looked like someone took a sledgehammer to it, it was alarming. He was dragging it behind him, it looked so uncomfortable. Later I would contact my office about this, so his brother knew it likely needed medical attention. The apartment itself comprised on a small living/kitchenette area, 2 small bedrooms, and 1 bathroom. The job was to not clean any bedrooms, and focus on the living, kitchen and bathroom, easy enough. I've never considered using a cleaning service before but we're at a point with jobs and kids that getting assume help a few hours a month would be the ultimate luxury and gift to our family. Being new to this, the internet is full of folks warning against cleaning companies due to their treatment of employees and rigid adherence to specific, cost effective practices.

Hey guys I'm going to be streaming a little bit of project housecleaning (re-organizing component names, updating the BOM to hopefully publish soon, remake the github repo god knows that needs to be done, just things of that nature) on Friday the 5th. I'll be opening up the floor for conversation and questions so if anyone feels like coming along to hang out you're free to do so. All questions be they personal or professional are allowed just keep them clean.
I'm not sure what's appropriate. They are amazing and do a deep clean once a month. We hired them at the beginning of the pandemic, as a coping strategy to stave off a bit of a panic/depression spiral. I'm usually working (from home) while they clean, so there's minimal conversation. I do generally tell them to help themselves to any baked goods, which they seem to appreciate. Basically, I don't have a personal relationship with them, but they do really good work and I know it's been a particularly difficult year.
Tell me your tips and tricks. I need advice on thorough cleaning without causing a lot of discomfort.
I'm learning how to properly clean my house but it's especially a struggle with my back issues. I had a lower spine fusion years ago due to scoliosis. It normally doesn't cause much pain unless I strain myself. I prefer using traditional string mops over pad mops, but they kill my lower back. I brought a mop bucket that squeezes the mop, but... Ugh. Lifting the bucket to change the water causes me back pain.
Hi parents! I grew up in a household where keeping the house clean was nonexistent. I now live in a 1br apt and am trying to keep it clean but don’t know general housecleaning procedures.
Can you all share your housecleaning tips? Whats your daily routine? Weekly routine? What’s the best way of keeping a clean stove? Should I be opening my windows often to air out my apt? Should I clean my apt in a certain order? How to clean blinds? Etc. I guess I’m asking for anything you think a 22 year old slob should learn about cleaning. TIA
This sub was originally created to feature known artists covering other artist's work. Like Weezer covering "Take On Me" for example.
It evolved into amateurs posting cover songs, and that was OK.
Now it seems to be a rehearsal room with a karaoke lounge. People singing along to the original. People playing drums to the original. People submitting single verses and other bits and pieces. People "covering" the song they just wrote.
In my (probably worthless) opinion, any amateur posting should be a complete performance. Something you could take on a stage at a coffee shop or bar. A real performance, not "Here's me playing the kazoo to a verse of Shallow with Lady Gaga. Let me know what you think!"
Next up: Titles. This sub is a shit show of post titles. "Here's my friend playing her heart out, show her some love," and stuff of that ilk. The title had better contain the song title or I am not clicking. Life is too short to listen to someone doing a song I didn't like in the first place. There is a recommended format in the sidebar that is almost universally ignored.
This messy housekeeping is probably why there are so few comments on most posts and a lack of upvotes in general. Right now the top post on the front page of this sub has 22 upvotes and the next 10 posts have 9 upvotes between all of them.
Lastly, can't Billie Eilish songs be put in their own subreddit? It seems like half the submissions here are Billie covers.
There is a ton of talented people submitting covers. But I am guessing that most of them are discouraged by the lack of response here and leave. Which leaves us with "Here's one verse of Bad Guy drum cover."
