My dad and I cut down what I think is a gumwood tree. There are pictures of the leaves if someone would like to double check my identification. I plan on making at least 3/4 bows out of it once it dries. Its been about 2-3 years since making my last bow so anyone who has experience working with gumwood I would be grateful for some tips.

I'd appreciate any advice regarding how to proceed with refinishing gumwood trim in a 1920s home. The existing finish is shellac. Thus far, I have used denatured alcohol and 0000 steel wool to remove dirt/grime, discoloration, some of the existing shellac finish.
My plan was to next apply an oil-based stain to even out the coloring, especially on the base trim where there may have been pet stains that discolored the finish. After staining, my plan is to apply Bullseye Clear Shellac to finish and seal. Am I making any mistakes by applying an oil-based stain between the existing shellac finish and the new shellac layers? Can I follow the same steps for the windows as well, or would you recommend a spar varnish instead of shellac? Can I varnish over the existing finish?

Trying to build a radiator cover that blends in to the rest of the wood in this dining room. The wood is supposedly gumwood, not easily available anymore around here (Ontario). Is there another more common wood species and finish I can use to match this?
Sorry probably a pretty basic question to some, I just have very little experience finishing/matching wood, most of the projects I make get painted...

Good Day All, We have an older Hamilton house with gumwood throughout. Does anyone know where you can get matching wood or matching stain for baseboards? Gumwood seems to be quite common in Hamilton so hoping someone else had experience with it, thanks!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
