London has bid farewell to the Class 332 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) fleet operating on the Heathrow Express service. The Siemens/CAF trains are being replaced by refurbished Great Western Railway Bombardier Electrostar Class 387 EMUs despite their young age. RIP to these unique trains.

Ok so first up I'm disabled and I have difficulty walking and have to take a train trip tomorrow.
The platform for my train doesnt have lift access and to be completely honest I struggle with stairs.
So there is this thing called train/travel assist where you can call them up the day or so before you travel and they make arrangements to make the trains accessable. Usually by making the train come in on a stepfree platform.
So I call them up and we'll call him Fred (a very helpful chap) looks to see what he can do to help me.
Well.... Apparently it is easier and cheaper to get a taxi to take me from my depature station and drop me off at my arrival station than it is to shift trains about. Which is awesome and I am very greatful for this.
The ridiculous part is i simply need to have my train tickets which as I have a disabled railway card (gets a 1/3 off the cost of the ticket ) means I'm going on a journey of almost an hour in a cab for less than a daily bus ticket for my local area.
Dont let anyone knock the public transport in the UK. It may be a bit pricey if you commute and sometimes a wee bit late but overall and especially in this case its awesome.

Paid for a first class train ticket to Cardiff since all the other trains so far were cancelled, and I figured it'd be packed like a tin of sardines. There weren't any first class carriages. Fuck you, "Great" Western Railway.

So...onto todays adventure and well nothing really, got to the station and they had a seat waiting for me prior to the cab arriving, very nice gent picked me up in one of the local cabs ( odd coincidence but he had actually beeen the chap that collected me from my house to the station).
Very uneventfiul trip where I stuck my headphones on and sat back and let the train take the strain LOL.
AND literally took 9 minutes longer than the train would have.
So all in all GWR really did smash it out the ball park and I called them up to say thank you too.

Great Western Railway are run by a bunch of plonkers
For months now they've advertised the new trains that they've bought which they said would be longer and more spacious.
Well maybe they are except they shut off half the carriages for my part of the line. Now there's less seats available and a few dozen people have to stand (it used to be one of the few rush hour trains where you could guarantee a seat).
So now
- People are standing even though there are empty carriages attached to the back of the train.
- The train is routinely delayed because they have to check the carriages are actually empty before they lock them up.
So well done GWR, you've spent passenger and government money and actively made the commute worse for a few hundred people.
