My mom was raised catholic, her mom died when she was 7 and she had lots of problems with her upbringing, not to mention mental illness runs rampant in my family, on both sides. Her and my dad have had a passion for karate their entire lives, and both happened to be living in japan when they met.
They fell in love or whatever I guess, and then moved back to my moms hometown in the US and got married. I was the first born son (And oh boy in a muslim family this is not a good thing) and they had 7 other kids. Im not sure what details to include and what to leave out.
But anyways, we were all born in the us, ages as now range from 14-28. My grandfather served in the navy. He has to raise my mom and her younger brother (my uncle) alone, after their mom died when they were children. He was a lawyer. He never forced religion on them, but that the time he was a catholic and put them in catholic schools with crazy nuns that loved to abuse/whip kids. (Now he is in his 70s and is an agnostic, just like me, after seeing all the horrors of religion).
We grew up in the suburbs, southern US. Money was always a problem, but things were ok. I actually did my first year of school (kindergarten) in the middle east, my dad took us there to visit for a few months when I was 5, and that was pretty traumatizing, it was all a blur. But thankfully, we came back this time, after a few months.
Now, during these school days, My mom would force me to wear the traditional islam dress to this public school where all the other kids wore uniforms. (I wore a kufi and dishdasha). I found it very embarassing, and also, my mom would force

I was born and raised in a Muslim household. So like many people here we really didnโt have a choice on whether or not we wanted to be Muslim growing up.
Also one more question about converts. Do most stick with the religion or usually end up leaving the faith after awhile?
