A list of puns related to "Efrem Zimbalist"
I've always felt that Efrem Zimbalist Jr.'s "Alfred" was the definitive one from the many Batman incarnations.
Michael Gough of Burton/Shumacher fame, who did an amazing job, still always came off at too ineffectual -- unless, of course, he's over stepping his bounds by letting Vicky Vale into the Batcave or taking his niece's measurements for a Batgirl suit (seriously, think about that last one for a second -- where did he get those measurements!?). I liked that he truly cared for Master Wayne's mental health, but he too often came off as too old to really help or just didn't want Bruce to be Batman at all.
Michael Caine from the Nolan trilogy, who was also amazing, had the opposite problem. He was so enabling that I'm surprised he didn't just ask if he could tuck Bruce into bed and put on his Batty jammies for him. Between that and the war stories and the inconsistencies in his actions ("Be Batman! Endure! Now don't! I love you! I promised your parents I'd protect you! That's why I'm leaving you!" Seriously -- WTF???)... I don't know. He came off as too psychotic. Or at least in need of some life coaches.
But Efrem's Alfred -- and credit to the Animated Series writers for this as well -- came off as having the perfect balance. He was scared for Bruce. One of the great scenes in Mask of the Phantasm is when Bruce puts on the Batman mask for the first time. The look of horror on Alfred's face says it all. His gasp of, "My GOD" tells us that he does not approve. And yet he bears with it. Efrem's Alfred never knew what to make of this Batman "thing." But he supported him when he could, always hoping Bruce would lead a normal life, but knowing that was for Bruce to decide in the end.
This final scene from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm so captures what made this Alfred the best. His advice is both REAL, PRAGMATIC, and still HOPEFUL. He worries that Bruce will become that which he fights against -- for vengeance blackens the soul. But he hasn't yet, and Alfred is still grateful.
If you haven't seen the movie -- then you should. It is, hands down, the best Batman movie ever made. And the closest, in spirit, to the original noir comics. Yes... better than Burton. Yes... better than Nolan. And yes... better than all their Alfreds.
Just don't watch this scene if you don't want it spoiled. It gives away a lot.
But if you HAVE seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
THIS will always be the Alfred I remember.
... keep reading on reddit β‘So basically just the voice and the story behind it. Why do you hear that particular voice you are hearing? For me it's Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and not because it's the animated series, but i just like this version of Alfred the most outside of the comics and the accent is easy to do in my head.
But I do like the animated series.
The DCAU was blessed with a lot of great actors playing comicbook characters, many of whom I consider to be the definitive voices of those characters.
My favorites (aside from the obvious ones like Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill)
-Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor
-Dana Delany as Lois Lane
-Malcolm McDowell as Metallo
-Michael Ansara as Mr. Freeze
-Phil Lamarr as Static and John Stewart
-Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter
-Bud Cort as Toyman
-Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn
-Robert Constanzo as Harvey Bullock
and many more
Henry Darrow died on March 14.
I always got a kick out of the fact that Babylon 5 had both actors who played Zorro's father as guest stars: Henry Darrow and Efrem Zimbalist Jr.. Though Henry Darrow didn't just play Zorro's father. He was the first Latino actor to play Zorro (in two different TV shows).
It always seemed strange to me that Duncan Regehr (who played Zorro in that show) was never cast on Babylon 5 as he was on ST:TNG and ST:DS9.
But, though Darrow's character didn't have a large part on B5, appearing in one interview in one episode, and I'm sure what his character had to say made a lot of fans gnash their teeth.
FYI: Another coincidence besides both playing Zorro's father was that both of the B5 characters had the first name of William, William Indiri and William Edgars.

Henry Darrow, the pride of Puerto Rico who starred as the charming Manolito Montoya, the son of a wealthy Mexican land baron, on the 1967-71 NBC Western The High Chaparral, has died. He was 87.
Darrow died Sunday of natural causes at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina, his former publicist, Michael B. Druxman, announced.
The actor also played San Diego police detective Manny Quinlan alongside David Janssen in the first season of the 1974-76 ABC series Harry O and received a Daytime Emmy in 1990 for his turn as Rafael Castillo, the father of A Martinez's character, on the NBC daytime serial Santa Barbara.
For the 1981 CBS animated series The New Adventures of Zorro, Darrow provided the voice of the masked swordsman, then portrayed an elderly Don Diego de la Vega on the 1983 CBS series Zorro and Son and the father of a new Zorro (replacing Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) on a 1990-93 Family Channel show that starred Duncan Regehr.
Darrow was appearing on stage in a Los Angeles production of Ray Bradbury's The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit opposite F. Murray Abraham when he was spotted by producer David Dortort, who had created Bonanza and was now casting The High Chaparral.
"I said I'd like to speak in Spanish and that I would learn Indian sign language," he recalled in a 2015 interview for Richard Armstrong's Classic Film & TV CafΓ© website. "I said, 'I'm ready to read for the part.' And David Dortort replied: 'You don't have to. You've got it. You talked us into it."
He played the son of Mexican rancher Don SebastiΓ‘n Montoya (Frank Silvera) and brother of Linda Cristal's Victoria Cannon, wife of Leif Erickson's Big John Cannon, on 97 episodes of the series, which featured a Latino family on an equal level with an Anglo clan, a rarity for its time.
Darrow said he "styled [Manolito] after two Shakespearean characters I played: Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet, which added a comedic touch, and Iago from Othello, which mixed a little darkness to the character," he said. "He was a free spirit!"
Wrote Lisa McKenzie on a website dedicated to High Chaparral: "Whether playing poker in a saloon, wooing a potential conquest, breaking a political prisoner out of jail, cradling a lost child in his arms or waxing philosophical beneath the stars, there is nothing simple about Manolito Montoya.
"He stands tall with the
... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The nurse asked the rabbit, βwhat is your blood type?β
βI am probably a type Oβ said the rabbit.
The doctor says it terminal.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
