A list of puns related to "Directional Solidification"
I am thinking that ancient civilisations must have known some kind of rock formation to be able to build such mega structures. Is it possible that Stonehenge could have been made from some sort of concrete ? I mean rock is the first tool human used, thousands of years must have teach us some techniques.
I have been sitting on this question for a while.
I am talking about post-nucleation on 2nd or 3rd branches of the crystal. As an example, imagine a snowflake is solidifying and after nucleation it has six branches. Each of these six branches may bifurcate along their length. What determines the position of that splitting and what determines splitting at all?
Is it related to anisotropy in crystallographic planes and preferred planes?
Defects causing energy barriers if the crystal were to stay in the same direction?
I've been reading up on potential ore formation processes on Mars, to identify where common metals like Fe, Cu, Sn, Zn, Pb, Au and Ag would be readily extractable. Unfortunately there arenβt many sources to draw on. My primary sources at the moment are:
I'm gathering this info to be able to find areas of interest on the following geologic map of Mars: https://www.usgs.gov/media/images/geologic-map-mars
Iβd like to get some feedback on my analysis below, as Iβm not a geologist and I scraped this together from many different sources. So I'm really not sure if I can trust my results.

So Iβve first tried to establish a classification of the main ore formation processes on Mars, mainly based on [1].
1. Ore formation through volcanic activity**:**
1.1. ***Large Igneous Provinces (LIPβs)***: very large areas of mafic igneous rocks, formed through cooling and solidification of magma and lava flows. Includes intrusions (sills, dikes) and extrusions (lava flows, tephra deposits). While cooling, fractional crystallization occurs: siderophilic elements (ex.: Fe, Cr, Mn) concentrate at the bottom, chalcophilic elements (ex.: Ag, Cu, Pb, Sn, Zn) concentrate higher up, and low melting point elements like Pb, Sn, Ag, Bi and Sb concentrate further in the ultimate pocket of liquid rock at the top.
Depending on the age of the LIP, and thus the amount of erosion it has endured, different layers become apparent at the surface. Young LIPβs would thus provide access to elements like Pb, Sn, Ag, middle LIPβs to chalcophilic elements, and old LIPβs to siderophilic elements.
Intrusions, Extrusions and impact craters can provide further sites where elements could concentrate further but Iβm not entirely sure how this works yet.
1.2. Volcanic hydrothermal deposits: created b

Ever since I was quite young, I have been learning about the dangers inherent in merely venturing near humans. The very notion of visiting their home planet should have terrified me beyond reason or thought. But as I perambulated from the spaceport with Father, my tentacle firmly ensnared within his, my primary impression was how pretty it all looked. I recognised the blue sky from the image upon the wall in our home dwelling, portraying Fatherβs human friend Serena Hernandez in the process of blowing bubbles using a mixture of liquid dihydrogen monoxide and a chemical called βsoapβ.
Let me make myself absolutely understood. I do now, and always have, comprehended the danger posed to anyone of my species by what the average human would consider a comfortable environment. If I had not before, it would have been made clear to me when Father came home after the latest Tannarak incursion missing two tentacles. Not seared off by a Tannarak heat gun, but an incidental casualty of a skirmish which had seen Serena Hernandez melt half a mountain by way of released body heat, and then nearly freeze to death while wading through molten lava.
Mother, of course, was shocked and horrified by this, but the worst was yet to come. After Fatherβs tentacles were replaced by a combination of our science and theirsβconstructed from lightweight but insanely temperature-resistant materials and mated to his nerve-webβthe invitation had come for him to journey to Earth, just as Lieutenant-Commander Hernandez had come to Faz'Reep. As I understood matters, they wished to reward him for his part in saving Serena Hernandezβs life, at great risk to his own. To withstand the impossibly high temperatures, he was to be fitted with a heat-suit, more or less the precise opposite of what the redoubtable Lieutenant Hernandez had been wearing when she destroyed the Tannarak raiding party, saved Father from the avalanche, and crea

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

I (24F) come from a decently sized Ghanaian family with 7 older siblings. My 4 eldest siblings (46F, 45F, 43M, and 41F) all have the same dad as me but have a different mom who died when the eldest was around 9. My dad remarried to my mom, K, and had me and my other siblings (28M, 26M, and me).
My eldest sister, Z, has always held a very large grudge against K since the moment my parents got married because she felt my dad was trying to replace her mom with mine. Z has held this grudge their entire marriage and would regularly get into arguments with K and my brothers about how K βdestroyed her familyβ by marrying my dad and having me and my siblings.
Some more context Z has also held this grudge over me and my full siblings since we were born. She felt our birth was a solidification of Kβs place in my dadβs life. Because of this, sheβd regularly abuse us in ways that sheβd try to hide, me more so because I was said to be a spitting image of K. Tickling us and scratching our skin very badly and leaving large scars. Pinching our skin until we bled.
When I turned 12, Z pretended to go on a vacation out to Ghana but instead moved there. My parents were livid and my siblings felt betrayed and heartbroken. Z said she wanted to disconnect from our parents but wanted to keep in contact with us. We would try calling, emailing, and texting to no avail.
She got married to a guy she met in a bar after 3 months of dating and got pregnant. We only found out she was pregnant when she randomly came home and said she needed a place to stay when the baby was born because she wanted him to be a US citizen.
After the second baby was born, Z asked for a way for my dad to help her find a place to live and bring her husband to the US. So my dad helped her rent out an apartment as a guarantor (Z hasnβt had a job for years because she was bad with authority and often got into fist fights with bosses) and helped her husband get a work visa working with my dad.
It has been around 4 years now since my sister had contact with us. If we call her phone, she will ignore us completely and call her kids over to talk to us. If we buy presents for the kids, she will go out of her way to make it hard to give to them. When we do give them presents in person, Z will make snark comments (directed to her husband) about how sad her family is that they need to give gifts to her kids to try and buy her back.
My dad is beyond frustrated and wants to cut them out completely until they are

CONSEQUENTLY, above, below, and around the Nautilus, there were impenetrable frozen walls. We were the Ice Bankβs prisoners! The Canadian banged a table with his fearsome fist. Conseil kept still. I stared at the captain. His face had resumed its usual emotionlessness. He crossed his arms. He pondered. The Nautilus did not stir.
The captain then broke into speech:
βGentlemen,β he said in a calm voice, βthere are two ways of dying under the conditions in which weβre placed.β
This inexplicable individual acted like a mathematics professor working out a problem for his pupils.
βThe first way,β he went on, βis death by crushing. The second is death by asphyxiation. I donβt mention the possibility of death by starvation because the Nautilusβs provisions will certainly last longer than we will. Therefore, letβs concentrate on our chances of being crushed or asphyxiated.β
βAs for asphyxiation, captain,β I replied, βthat isnβt a cause for alarm, because the air tanks are full.β
βTrue,β Captain Nemo went on, βbut theyβll supply air for only two days. Now then, weβve been buried beneath the waters for thirty-six hours, and the Nautilusβs heavy atmosphere already needs renewing. In another forty-eight hours, our reserve air will be used up.β
βWell then, captain, letβs free ourselves within forty-eight hours!β
βWeβll try to at least, by cutting through one of these walls surrounding us.β
βWhich one?β I asked.
βBorings will tell us that. Iβm going to ground the Nautilus on the lower shelf, then my men will put on their diving suits and attack the thinnest of these ice walls.β
βCan the panels in the lounge be left open?β
βWithout ill effect. Weβre no longer in motion.β
Captain Nemo went out. Hissing sounds soon told me that water was being admitted into the ballast tanks. The Nautilus slowly settled and rested on the icy bottom at a depth of 350 meters, the depth at which the lower shelf of ice lay submerged.
βMy friends,β I said, βweβre in a serious predicament, but Iβm counting on your courage and energy.β
βSir,β the Canadian replied, βthis is no time to bore you with my complaints. Iβm ready to do anything I can for the common good.β
βExcellent, Ned,β I said, extending my hand to the Canadian.
βI might add,β he went on, βthat Iβm as handy with a pick as a harpoon. If I can be helpful to the captain, he can use me any way he wants.β
βHe wonβt turn down your assistance. Come along, Ned.β
I led the Canadian to the room where the Nautilusβs men were pu
