Welcome to the weekly album discussion! Every week, we'll discuss the albums featured in the flairs. Unfortunately, this means we'll be skipping a few in The Flenser catalog; I tried to keep it to the main signed acts. If I'm missing any be sure to let me know.
Desideratum is Thom Wasluck's incredible 2014 release. This haunting release exudes a certain melancholic nostalgia through the despair of gloomgaze. Kicking off with the dreary "Where You Rest Your Head at Night", Desideratum embodies themes of lovelorn, longing, and regret. Surely another classic from Thom's infallible catalog. Some prompts to get you started (but discussion doesn't have to be limited to these!):
"My philosophy/religion is the correct one, as a sufficient amount of sincere study will reveal."
This is an easy claim to make. A scientologist, a scientist, an aristotelian, an astrologist, a discordian, or a dervish can make that exact same claim. It costs nothing to make, and it can never be verified. If someone tries to test the claim by studying, and finds it wanting, their study was obviously neither sufficient nor sincere.
Indeed, knowing this, few would even want to test the claim--it costs a lot of time and emotional energy to undertake a sincere and in-depth study of some philosophy or religion. If you have more than two or three such claims to evaluate, you might never finish--and since they're so easy to make, even a single person can present them faster than you can deal with them.
This is the opposite of what we want from truth claims: What we want is claims that are hard to make, but easy to verify.
Scientology understands this, which is one of the reasons it's so popular. Scientology makes concrete claims about your emotional state, and uses an objective-looking measuring device to demonstrate the truth of its claims. Even though it's BS, the ratio of apparent claim difficulty to verification difficulty keeps many people from dismissing it outright.
Some more theatrical sects of Christianity recognize this as well. "I can handle poisonous snakes without danger, see?" is a dangerous claim to make, but fairly easy to verify, unless you're being deceived outright that the snakes are actively venomous.
Complexity theory, a branch of mathematics, is the undisputed master of hard-to-make, easy-to-verify claims. "This is the shortest path between these two graph nodes," or "this is the heaviest combination of those items that's under the weight limit," are canonical examples.
Bayesians understand that any belief they hold has a probability attached to it. As such, we're often fans of betting--offering a monetary bet at a certain ratio, dependent on some future event, is a good way to increase the cost of your claim. Even simply writing down your confidence level helps, because of the social costs of being publically wrong.
So, when you're making claims about your philosophy/religion, and you don't want others to dismiss them immediately, try considering the ratio of claim difficulty to verif

Daedric Dossier: Desideratum
By Emsubal, Dremora Archivist of the Concilium Mercantator
The Council of Merchants, Lord Vileβs inner circle, has given me the duty of writing this βpocket guideβ to the Masterβs Realm of Serenity. Before we begin, many mortals have been very keen on knowing my Master personally, as neither those who serve him, nor his domain in Oblivion are known to the denizens of Tamriel. It should be noted, that the true name of the child-godβs realm remains a mystery, even to those close to Him. Therefore, this document shall be compiled of my own knowledge of the Masterβs realm, and I shall only be listing what is necessary to know. With that aside, let us begin.
Unlike Dagonβs Deadlands, or Molag Balβs Coldharbour, Clavicus Vile has rendered his domain as an idyllic countryside, dotted with majestic merchant utopias, fields of white clovers, woodland meadows, twisted foliage, and odd melted-looking places. The air smells of both wildflowers and a profound decay, while the sky is blue with cottony clouds, and greenish-gray streaks that stain the atmosphere. The realm itself houses the many souls of mortals that have made wagers with Lord Clavicus, as well as the deceased members of the Cyrodiil Vampyrum, and the Little Key cult, a small commercial sect with a monopoly on worshipping the Prince of Pacts. Very little is known about them, but they are known to be very powerful, and influential within the Imperial City. Political turmoil between the Cyrodiil Vampyrum, and the Little Key is quite common, especially in the Kingdom of Tranquility where both factions vie for the Masterβs favor. Those within the Jovial Lambasters of Rimmen are also known to find serenity in the Desideratum; mainly hosting festivals, celebrating in Lord Vile's name.
The realm itself is guarded by powerful Dremora wearing golden Daedric armor that glistens, and changes between a multitude of colors when exposed in sunlight. They are quite common throughout the realm, keeping order, and making sure that everything is in itβs proper place. In the upper echelons of the realm lies the most prominent merchant cities, with Veinardia and Merveilleux being among the most grand. Here, the primary force of serenity is kept in check by the most deadliest of Daedra, the Djinnkyn (or βwishing warriorsβ), Vileβs personal guard. Unlike the Merchant Dremora, and the Clannfear that are commonly used for transportation, the Djinnkyn are βspecialβ. Being the result of ves

Hey, so this is the first work of mine that I'm publishing. I've put in a lot of effort into rewriting some parts of it and I would love feedback. A review/comment and fav/follow/kudo would be amazing as well. Criticism is also welcome.
