Battlemaster/battlesmith dart thrower

Building a 10th level character. I want to use dart throwing as my main form of attack. I was thinking 4 levels of artificer and 6 in fighter.

Artificer gives me int for my attacking mod, shield spell, returning weapon infusion, and utility spells.

Fighter gives me extra attack, quick toss maneuver which is essentially a 3rd attack, and extra asi.

I decided to use V-human to get the fighter initiate feat at level 1, giving me both archery and thrown weapon fighting styles. Darts are the only weapons that get bonuses from both styles.

I took sharpshooter with another ASI and used the other 2 to cap off my int and improve my con.

With max int, my attacks are +12 to hit (+5 from int +4 from prof. +2 from archery fighting style and +1 from returning weapon) which is high enough for me to consistently use the sharpshooter ability to improve damage. I know 1d4 is a bad weapon die, but the bonuses to damage with high chances to hit on 3 attacks makes this a lot of fun.

How would you improve this build? I feel like the steel defender is very underused, but I don't know what I would do with it. Also, I'm not sure what to do with my other infusion, probably repulsion shield or enhanced armor.

The Deadeye Dart Thrower: A Fully Functional Deadly Dangerous Thrown Weapon 1-20 Build! It’s Time to Get Good at Darts!

Do you want to get good at darts? Well It's time! Do you want to kill a man at 60ft with darts? Do you want to bring down a legendary magical entity with tiny bits of pointy metal? Do you want to threaten the gods themselves, bring darkness upon the world, enact The Dartening with ΒΌlb pointy objects most commonly used in a recreational sport? It's time! It’s Time to get good at darts!

Deadeye Dart Thrower Level Up Chart

Welcome all to the Deadeye Dart Thrower build guide! I made this build because thrown weapons have been sorely neglected in 5e, and because Artificer Returning Weapon builds having to dip 2-5 to be effective never sat well with me knife throwing flavor wise. The link covers the level by level build. In this post I go over the build’s mechanics, and explain the decisions made. As always, feel free to drop suggestions or point out errors in the comments.

Rules:

No UA, no homebrew, no guild backgrounds, only fully published content, point buy for ease of use.

Pros:

  • A thrown weapon build that actually works, right from 1-20, with 4 different ways to buff accuracy to make every attack count.
  • Devastating damage options with Sharpshooter, Kensei's Shot, Action Surge, Quick Toss and more.
  • Great backup melee damage with lots of control options.
  • Solid durability with 15-18 AC with multiple boosting options, a good HP pool, and two different short rest heals.
  • Phenomenal sustainability, with nearly every resource fully replenishing on a short rest.

Cons:

  • No reliable magic thrown weapon until 7th level.
  • Only 4 skill proficiencies.
  • Basically no magic aside from 2 1st level slots.

Build Overview:

This is a fully functional and surprisingly deadly Battlemaster 11/ Kensei 8/ Peace Cleric 1 thrown weapon build. It uses Kensei Weapon magic darts with the Ranged fighting style, Focused Aim, Precision Attack, Emboldening Bond, and Bless for great accuracy; and with the Thrown Weapon fighting style, Sharpshooter (SS), Kensei's Shot, Ki-Fueled Attack, Deft Strike, and Quick Toss for fantastic consistent damage. For durability we have a 15-18 AC, a sizable HP pool with 14 Con and 11 Fighter levels, Second Wind, Quickend Healing, Patient Defense and Step of the Wind. And finally we get nearly every resource back on a short rest, meaning with a nap we can keep fighting till we die of exhaustion.

Reflavouring:

This build is a bit

New US thrower looking for dart options.

Hello friends! My dad has recently gotten me into throwing darts since he put up a Blade 5 at his house. The wife said I could probably get one for Christmas haha! I'm currently working out my mechanics and grip preference by throwing some cheap aluminum barrel 18g set he got from Amazon.

I'm looking to buy a variety or sample pack of darts from Darts Corner UK. I don't know what I prefer for shape, weight, grip, shaft, flights, etc. Do you guys have any suggestions? Is there a way to buy a pack of different darts or should I just fork over $50-60 or so and get 2-3 different sets/weights?

Cheers!

Tips for a β€œdart thrower”?

Hello All β€” I’m coaching a 13 year old kid whose throwing motion resembles a dart thrower. I’m not quite sure how else to describe it. He bends the arm at the elbow instead of getting arm extension. He’s always been really good and throws really hard but I know this motion isn’t sustainable and he has been complaining of shoulder pain. We talk about it but then he goes back to what he’s comfortable with. Thoughts on how to work on this? I think I saw a training aid for correcting throwing form on sale somewhere but can’t recall what it was called or even if such a thing is useful. Thanks all!

Add atlatls (spear/dart thrower)

Atlatls would be used to launch long darts further than by hand and more powerfully. You would need to craft special darts just for the atlatl so you wouldn’t be able to use normal spears with it. Dart tip progression would be exactly the same as arrow tip progression.

I saw something about darts weight related to height of the thrower and it had referenced Phil Taylor saying if you were over 6ft tall, it was better to use a 22g dart. Taking into account as few variables as possible, throwing style or otherwise, what's the rationale behind this type of thinking?

[Self] Calculating the distance a talented man might throw a medieval war dart / fletched javelin based on the distance thrown in the video of a talented female thrower

I watched a video about the efficacy of medieval war darts. In the video the craftsman and host invited a young woman who clearly is a talented javelin thrower. It made me curious about how far the men might throw the war dart in battle.

I was on the track team through college and already knew there was a big distance difference between men and women's throw distances, and that the men's javelin is a little heavier. But how much further would it actually be? Here is the answer.

Top college women throw a 600g javelin ~55m, top college men throw a 800g javelin ~75m. So men throw a javelin that is 33% heavier, 36% further. So how far could then men throw the lighter javelin?

Math time: The ideal angle for a javelin throw is 35 degrees. Using this and distance we can calculate initial velocity of the throws.

Women's initial velocity: 24 m/s

Men's initial velocity: 28 m/s

Using the velocity and mass we can calculate the energy of the throws.

Women's javelin energy: 173 J

Men's javelin energy: 314 J

That is quite a difference in energy, 82% more in fact. Now lets reverse the process and figure out how far the men could throw the lighter, and how far the women could throw the heavier.

Women throwing heavy jav, initial velocity: 20.8 m/s

Men throwing light jav, initial velocity: 32.4 m/s

And now to calculate the distance using those initial velocities and a launch angle of 35 degrees.

Women throwing heavy jav, distance: 41.5m (45% of the men's distance of 75m)

Men throwing heavy jav, distance: 100m (82% further than women's distance of 55m)

So, why did I bother calculating all that? Because Lara had pretty good form so I was wondering how far an equivalent man could throw that spear. Here is the answer:

Lara threw it 27m. So a man who had equivalent throwing skill to her would throw it about 49m! For your US viewers, 49m is about 161 feet or 53.5 yards. Imagine a wave of these being thrown at over half a football field in distance!

Looking for a dart thrower for league games

We need another player for our league team. Someone who hits what they aim at and is not an ass. We are bartenders, chefs, and overall pretty nice and friendly guys. Need to have Tuesdays off in perpetuity, since that's when we play. Our home bar is in mid city, and we travel around to other bars for away games, so someone close by is convenient but if you have a car or uber account it's all good. It's a good reason to get out the house, meet new people, see bars you normally might not know. Anyway send me a message if you're interested and we can get a beer and play a game and go from there. Please no weird ultra competitive alpha assholes. We hate to lose too but sportsmanship is required y'heard.

It's not unusual for deaths in our group, luckily we play a lot of one shots to focus on cool character ideas for the future. I would like to build a dart thrower, and I have some of the basics down, but I was curious what you guys would do to help it realize it's full potential.
Variant Human with the Archery Fighting Style
1st Level Fighter to gain Thrown Weapon Fighting Style
Beyond that I want Rogue levels to maximize the damage of the darts, but I don't know if I should go to 2, 3, or 5 in Fighter before I go Rogue. Also not entirely sure what subclasses would enhance the build. Any ideas?

Character Concept: Dart Thrower

I saw the new thrown-weapon fighting style from Tasha’s and I wanted to make a build from it. My idea was to be a professional dart thrower that ended up in an adventure. The main strategy is using sharpshooter along with archery style, but instead of it being an arrow it’s a dart. It’s comes online by level 4, and I think it scales with level. Here I wrote it as 5th level

Level 0 - Race: Vuman (Fighting Initiate: Archery for the +2 to attack rolls) Class: Fighter Ability Scores: all that matters is dex, so 16, +3

Level 1 - Fighting Style: take Two-weapon fighting. You can draw a thrown weapon as part of the attack and a +2 to damage

Level 2 - Action Surge

Level 3- Subclass - Samurai: Giving ourselves advantage will be a huge help that will offset sharpshooter

Level 4 - Asi: take the sharpshooter feat. -5 to attack rolls for a +10 to damage. We now have deadly darts to poke out eyes with

Level 5- Extra Attack: more attacks mean double the damage.

With all of this put together, we have darts that have a +8 to hit and does 1d4 + 5. Not very impressive, but if we action surge, fighting spirit, and sharpshooter we can do 4d4 + 60 damage (if everything I did here is correct). Even with the -5 to attack rolls we still have a +3 and we have advantage on all attacks. Now we can start running around and dropping enemies with 4 darts to the head. Feel free to give any suggestions or ridicule me if I got anything wrong.

Dart thrower fighter build

Hey, so I am currently playing a battlemaster fighter. I have 19 dex at lvll3. I wanted to play an archer initially, but with Tasha's out, I am thinking of a dart thrower with quick toss, thrown weapon fighting and darts so that I can use sharpshooter with a thrown weapon. Adding fighting initiate for the archery fighting style and piercer as extra feats seem like viable options. Does the +2 dmg and +2 to hit and quick toss manoeuvre (that gives a bonus action attack to which you can add a superiority dice t the dm) stack up when compared to crossbow users. (crossbow expert, sharpshooter, piercer build) ?

Battlemaster dart thrower: multiclass or no?

With Tasha's out, I am excited to build and try out a knife/dart throwing battlemaster using the thrown weapon and archery fighting style, sharpshooter, and quick toss.

My question is would it best to go full fighter or multiclass into a cleric for bless or a ranger for hunters mark?

In addition, would the Poisoner feat be worth the asi and would the Piercer feat work with superiority dice or only the d4 of the dart?
