Hey, dumbasses, when the group asks you not to cross talk, don't do it anyway and preface it with "not to cross talk" or "sorry for cross talking" and then do it anyway.

Reducing crosstalk/parasitic capacitance on PCB design

Hi everyone!

I’m currently designing my second PCB for a gaming handheld I’m building here, based on the Compute Module 4 from the Raspberry Pi Foundation:

https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?threads/retro-lite-cm4-a-stonededge-and-dmcke5-collaboration.3934/

It’s mostly going really well, apart from one issue I’ve had with disc based games that read directly from the SD card, as opposed to loading games into RAM. (I.e ISO files, like Dreamcast or PSP games).

I’ve currently discovered a major issue, which I think involves the high speed SDIO clock line on my SD card interacting with the analog speaker outputs on one of my channels from the i2s amplifier. The mistake I’ve made is that I’ve ran the traces right next to each other in parallel on the same layer, for quite some length.

I guess my question would be, how do I avoid this issue in the future? Are there any techniques I can use, such as running the speakers on an internal GND layer opposite the internal core? Should I ensure adequate spacing between parallel traces, what if this is unavoidable? Should I put ground vias between the clock signals and the analog traces? Should I run the traces as a differential signal? If so, what impedance should I aim for with 8 ohm 1W speakers?

Here’s a video of the issue, too: https://youtu.be/XeDUuK9mMEA. I guess there are a lot of options, and I’m not sure which is best/most effective.

Any theory to help me become a better designer when it comes to avoiding nasty EMI would be appreciated when designing PCBs! Thanks experts!

Crazy amount of crosstalk between PCB traces?

Hi all,

I've got a PCB with multiple input lines running into an IC. Without the IC populated, I'm seeing a crazy amount of crosstalk between the input lines. With a 5Vpp input square wave on channel 1, I'm seeing a 50mVpp square wave on channel 2. The traces are microstrip on the top layer and do run parallel to each other for about an inch, although they are thin and separated by more than 3x the trace width. There is a ground plane on layer 3 that I could move up to layer 2. Aside from that, I've heard conflicting opinions on if guard traces or a top-layer ground pour will help or hurt.

Any ideas?

A high-fat High-fructose Diet Dysregulates the Homeostatic Crosstalk Between Gut Microbiome, Metabolome and Immunity in an Experimental Model of Obesity

Share on Abstract Scope: Ample evidence supports the prominent role of gut-liver axis in perpetuating pathological networks of high-fat high-fructose (HFF) diet induced metabolic disorders, however, the molecular mechanisms are still not fully understood. Herein, we aim to present a holistic delineation and scientific explanation for the crosstalk between the gut and liver, including the potential mediators involved in orchestrating the metabolic and immune systems.

Methods: An experimental obesity associated metaflammation rat model was induced with a HFF diet. An integrative multi-omics analysis was then performed. Following the clues illustrated by the multi-omics discoveries, putative pathways were subsequently validated by RT-qPCR and Western blotting.

Results: HFF diet led to obese phenotypes in rats, as well as histopathological changes. Integrated omics analysis showed there existed a strong interdependence among gut microbiota composition, intestinal metabolites and innate immunity regulation in the liver. Some carboxylic acids might contribute to gut-liver communication. Moreover, activation of the hepatic LPS-TLR4 pathway in obesity was confirmed.

Conclusions: HFF-intake disturbs gut flora homeostasis. Crosstalk between gut microbiota and innate immune system mediated hepatic metaflammation in obese rats, associated with LPS-TLR4 signaling pathway activation. Moreover, Ξ±-hydroxyisobutyric acid and some other organic acids may play a role as messengers in the liver-gut axis.

HFF dysregulates the rat intestinal metabolome and gut microbiota composition;

HFF impacts hepatic expression of genes involved in innate immunity;

How big of an issue is a mix-up in wire pairing regarding crosstalk?

I am trying to wrap my head around a problem with establishing ethernet connections over installation cable which i ran into at a friends house. I connected the wires to the newly installed ethernet wall sockets in the rooms and patch panel in the basement. All individual wires are confirmed to work. The pinout on both ends is verified to be identical with a continuity tester. However i can't get any ethernet link over the lines.

As far as i can tell the cables in the walls are F/UTP (four pairs, eight wires total). Though i am unfamiliar with this particular wire insulation color scheme: red/blue, brown/white, green/white and yellow/white. The absolute cable length for each individual line is not longer than 30 meters.

The three white wires are not striped. They are just plain white. I suspect this might be part of the problem because i am not sure i connected the three white wires according to their proper twisted pair affinity. When i removed the old telephone sockets the twisted pairs were already untwisted so far up to the sheath that it was not possible to determine the pairs with certainty by just looking at them. So to recap: the pinout on both ends is verified to be good, but i might not have gotten the wire pairing right.

My questions now are:

  1. Can crosstalk caused by incorrect assignment of the originally paired wires cause a Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet link to fail completely?

  2. Is there a testing method to determine wire pairing for "unknown" wire pairing affinity?

EDIT: I was not able to test with a proper network cable tester to exclude shorts between individual wires. I am planing to rule out this cause by re-testing with a "proper" network cable tester.

Dell S2716DG died, bought S2721DGF, couldn't cope with crosstalk?

My Dell S2716DG died recently, as Dell had no native G-SYNC offerings available I purchased a S2721DGF expecting similar performance, I was excited to come back to an IPS panel as its been 4 years with this screen.

My old S2716DG has been running 144hz G-SYNC on with VSYNC off in every game I play and I found it buttery smooth, no crosstalk or strange issues... extremely easy on the eyes.

Set up the S2721DGF expecting similar (comparable) results only to find that the crosstalk was atrocious, my eyes were screaming for mercy immediately. It seems the VRR/Adaptive frame rate on this screen has no idea what's going on, with the display at 165hz, freesync enabled and framerate locked at a stable 120fps, I could sit there with the Freesync framerate OSD turned on and watch it fly all over the place from 85hz to 140hz.

I realise I could stuff around and lock everything down to eliminate much of this issue, but I've never had to do that with the old screen, I don't want to muck about trying to get each game to run right...

What are my options for monitors with comparable performance to the S2716DG? I naturally poured over BlurBusters but their site is largely out of date. I want native G-SYNC and it seems to be hard to find 27" monitors that offer the same performance as the S2716DG.

Followed Crosstalk's IOT network setup, but no DNS across LANs

Hi,

I Followed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGBobTInIBc to create an iot LAN, but my 2 piholes are on my main lan, and they are not accesible on the iot lans when applying the network rules into my UDM pro (Which is logical) . What's the best practice of making these DNS servers available to all?

Thanks!

Is crosstalk still present in the mh650?

Title says it all. Also, are there cases where crosstalk aren't present. I mostly see crosstalk issues on the mh630 online but haven't heard anything about MH650 so want to make sure (since it's USB powered). What percentage of the mh650s do you think have crosstalk? or does all of them have it?
