A list of puns related to "Béla Bartók"
Szerelőállvány kapható a Bartók Béla úti Lidlben.
Any genre, any time period. Like the title says I'm looking for music that resembles Béla Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances, any suggestions?
What do you think?
Recently I heard for the first time, Romanian Folk Dances For Orchestra by Béla Bartók.
Here's one performance on YouTube
I immediately fell in love with it and am in search of anything fairly similar. Striking out with streaming recommendations such as Spotify radio based on the performance they have, etc.
Any recommendations, or even generally pointing me in a direction would be greatly appreciated.
So I just recently started listening to classical, and as a fan of rock and metal, this piece blew me away when I heard it! I was under the impression that classical music was mostly calm and happy, but I didn't know it could be like this. I love how dark and aggressive and dissonant it sounds.
The only thing I've heard similar to it is Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson, but that isn't classical for the most part.
I am Hungarian, so of course we have heard a lot about Bartók and Kodály at school. I don't know how influential they were in the greater world. I just want to mention Bartók's view on functional theory and ask your opionon:
Bartók's theory of axes:
- Tonic(al) axis: I IIIb IV# V (in Cmaj C Eb F# A)- Subdominant axis: IV VIb VII II (in Cmaj F7 Ab7 H7 D7)- Dominant axis: V VIIb IIb III (in Cmaj G7 Bb7 Db7 E7)
And their use as the authentic functional circle: Tonic Subdominant Dominant Tonic and plagal functional circle: Tonic Dominant Subdominant Tonic
I should also add Bartók was strongly influenced by Hungarian folk music (and Kodály even more so) so maybe this is not that universal. One characteristic of Hungarian folk music is that the cadence, closing of lines really does matter a lot, it defines the structure of the whole song. So it is sort of like composing building backwards from the cadence, from the closing of the musical thought (which is what I am experimenting with in Ableton...)
