A list of puns related to "Atmospheric Stratification"
This is your 5-minute Thursday briefing in 1424 words.
##how will global warming affect Lake Sevan?
Armenian scientists recently got their hands on fancy new toys with the help of German colleagues. They dump the sensors at various depths to measure water temperature in Sevan. These are high-frequency "accurate" devices.
Another device measures the oxygen concentration in water and transmits it to a computer for analysis.
Armenian and presumably German scientists created a new thermal regime assessment method for Sevan. They entered historical atmospheric temperature data to guess Sevan's water temperature dynamics, including trends of the past 100 years.
According to the scientist, the results indicate that if the atmosphere warms by 2-5 degrees, Sevan's stratification processes will undergo major changes. Stratification is when the lake develops three layers: surface, mid, bottom. The warming won't allow these layers to mix, thus creating favorable conditions for blooming [algae growth]. If this "mixing" process happens twice a year today, it could happen only once. Additionally, the bottom layer would suffer from a lack of oxygen.
Scientists gather Sevan data once a month to identify problems and find solutions.

##Armenians celebrated Christmas
A festive liturgy was served in all churches yesterday evening. People took the lighted candles home.
Holy Liturgy was served this morning, followed by ΥΦΦ ΦΥ°ΥΆΥ₯Φ, in which a cross is submerged in water to symbolize Jesus entering the Jordan River. People take some of that water home as medicine for the sick. The priest then visits the homes of believers to announce the birth of Jesus Christ.
Story: Emperor Augustus ordered a countrywide census. The residents went to their birthplace to register. Joseph and Virgin Mary went to Bethlehem.
Pregnant Mary went into labor but they couldn't find any available guest rooms for birth so they went to a nearby cave instead. Jesus was born in poverty. "It is the true symbol of our souls."
Nearby shepherds, who were given a heads-up by angels about the birth, became the witnesses. Then came others, guided by stars, to give gifts. //

Hi All,
I've never been to this subreddit, at least I don't think I have. I do have thalassophobia, at least to a degree. I thought I'd write something to share. It's in a couple of parts. The first couple of parts I'm talking, nerd-like, about what I know about exploration of our Solar System (by NASA and others) and specifically of a couple of moons of the gas giant planet Jupiter and how they are suspected of having vast oceans hidden beneath thick layers of surface ice. I find the idea of exploring such worlds absolutely riveting and - because of the idea of oceans - utterly terrifying. Anyway, I thought I'd give some sense of what I know as a layperson of the science and then I wrote a little short story-like description of how a robotic craft on the surface might go about exploring its ocean.
Thank you in advance!
I'm a huge fan of astronomy and exploration of the cosmos and our local solar system. I'd love for us to find evidence of life other than the life that formed here on Earth. Does it exist? Who knows. One of the most interesting places to explore is any planet or moon that has liquid water on it. Liquid water is a universal requirement for life as we know and presumably will required by alien life.
My interest in life in the cosmos was stoked significantly by learning about the 'Voyager' mission in the late 70s and early 80s. The Voyager mission involved two craft that travelled to the other giant planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. While those big planets were interesting, it's their moons that were arguably more interesting. At least two of Jupiter's inner moons were particularly interesting because they seem to be icy moons with a possible oceans worth of liquid water below their icy crust.
I'm referring to the moons Europa and Enceledus. As I say, both are highly reflective icy bodies. They are absolutely bone-chillingly cold at around -200 degrees Celsius (-330 Fahrenheit, apparently). That's far too cold for liquid water at the surface, but with the ice above acting as a sort of 'insulation blanket', liquid water is expected to exist deeper. How deep do you have to go through the Europan or Enceledus ice before you hit liquid water? Who knows. NASA scientists have suggested the ice layer on these moons could be several kilometres deep, wh

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
With only days separating us from the 89th running of the 24 Heures du Mans, it's time again for the Le Mans Primer thread! This is the place if youβve got any questions about the 2021 Le Mans event, no matter how small! There are no dumb questions about Le Mans!
#CONTENTS
#The Race The 24 Heures du Mans brings up its 89th edition this year, and is the holy grail of endurance motor racing. After its first running in 1923, the course and cars have evolved to become the premier event in the World Endurance Championship, and the event is recognised as the most prestigious test for innovations in motorsport technology. Technologies such as disk and air brakes, streamlined bodywork, and a variety of engine configurations were trialled and tested at the 24 hours of Le Mans. The Mazda 787b (oh god listen to that sound!) was the first, and so far only car to win running a Wankel Rotary engine, winning in 1991. Audi brought diesel engines their first success in 2006 with the R10 TDI, and then brought Hybrid technology to victory for the first time in 2012 with the R18 e-tron Quattro.
Traditionally held on the third-weekend-in-June, the event has been pushed back to a late-summer August 21-22 date to enable fans to attend. This means plenty of sun, plenty of daylight, and plenty of atmosphere around the track!
Following on from last-yearβs success, the Hyperpole qualifying format will be making a return to set the grid for this yearβs 24 Hours of Le Mans. In this format, all classes are permitted to use the track in the 1 hour qualifying session on Wednesday evening. The top 6 cars from each of the 4 classes then progress to the Hyperpole session on Thursday night, which sets the top of the grid for each class. This means that each class will be segregated on the final grid.
And finally, this will be the first Le Mans featuring the new LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) class, this year featuring two cars each from Toyota and Glickenhaus, supported by a grandfathered LMP1 machine in the form of the Alpine A480-Gibson. As with any introduction of a new class, expect to see reliability issues, difficulties passing traffic, and other unexpected outcomes as the new class faces the test of the Grand Prix

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!
This is a paper from Peter Salonius, a Canadian soil microbiologist which was released October 20, 2008 on the famous The Oil Drum where you can find the Bibliography.
According to Peter, humanity has probably been in overshoot of the Earth's carrying capacity since it abandoned hunter gathering in favor of crop cultivation (~ 8,000 BCE). The problem is that soil needs tightly woven natural ecosystems to properly recycle nutrients and prevent soil erosion. Earth's inhabitants have devised a whole series of approaches to increase the amount of food that can produced, starting first with hand-cultivation and culminating in the last century with the widespread use of fossil fuels. These approaches strip the soil of its nutrients and cause soil erosion. Even Permaculture cannot be expected to overcome these problems. According to the paper, eventually, to reach sustainability, the world will need to reduce its population to that of the hunter-gathers, and go back to living on the resources the natural ecosystems can produce.
The major departure for humans as just another member of the global animal species assemblage came when fire was first used about 400,000 years ago by Homo erectus (Price 1995). The dynamic cyclical stability of complex systems has been shown for most animal populations, except top predators, to depend on predation to dampen overshoot and runaway consumption dynamics of prey species (Rooney et al. 2006). The ability to control and use fire removed the influence of wild animal predators as moderators of human numbers. The use of fire made possible the colonization of cold lands at high latitudes where fuel for heating shelters was available in some form such as animal oil, dried dung and wood. Even though their shelters became more complex and elaborate, they were, for the most part, temporary encampments whose main structural components could be transported across the landscape so as to benefit from variable food availability as the seasons changed.
The bulk of human history has been that of a culture of hunter gathers or foragers. They did not plant crops or modify ecosystem dynamics in any significant manner as they were passively dependent on what the local environment had to offer. They did however domesticate dogs as early as 100,000 BCE (Vila et al. 1997); these animals were useful as hunting aids, guardians, and occasionally as food during times of scarcity. Hu
