A list of puns related to "Ashbury"
Hi everyone,
As the title says, my husband and I were approved for a 2BR apartment in the Haight for $2700/mo, and are contemplating whether or not we should leave our current apartment. The Haight unit is in a gorgeous Edwardian building, and the unit itself is large. It seems like a steal compared to what we are paying for now....I'm familiar with the area as someone who lives in another part of the city - have gone out there, have gotten brunch there, have taken visitors there, etc. However, I'm unfamiliar with actually LIVING in Haight. It's located on a side street just off of Haight, in between Haight and Page. Think Page and Belvedere, Cole, Clayton, etc. (Trying not to give too many details).
I am mainly concerned about safety and parking in the area. We both have cars, but my husband doesn't mind parking many blocks away and leaving his car as long as possible before having to move it. I don't mind parking a couple of blocks away, but I'm a nurse who drives to work, and worried about walking to and from my car at 6am and 8pm. Or the inability to find parking, because it looks like it sucks. I walked around at 8pm to get a feel for it. Felt a little uncomfortable at times down Haight but not unsafe. I felt fine walking down Page street. But the larger transient homeless groups are different to the smaller, individual homeless encounters I have in the Mission.
Currently, I live in the Mission/Noe border near Guerrero and 24th in a 1BR that is $3200 (and that was a pandemic negotiation price). I love the location, love my apartment (again, another historic Edwardian, love me some older buildings haha), and parking is not hard to find at all. However, it looks like large 2BR the same size of the Haight one in this area are going for $4000+/mo.
Should we snag this apartment? Or if we wait, do you think can we find something better?
So I talked to the mayor a while back and went off to do something else since I decided to do the rest when I had high enough persuasion but when I went back I can't talk to the mayor and nobody asks any questions. The quest isn't failed in the journal and i've tried it in day and night but still nothing.
If I can't fix this does this block out an ending?
After the recent shootings in Haight-Ashbury, I'm starting to notice more Cole Valley and Ashbury Heights folks being vocal about their concern regarding the state of Haight Street. For those unfamiliar, Frederick Street (maybe Waller?) is the unofficial border between the rougher/dirtier Haight-Ashbury and the more posh Cole Valley and Ashbury Heights.
Despite their proximity to each other, I'd frequently hear from folks in CV/AH that Haight Street wasn't even on their radar and they didn't really care about what happened in Haight-Ashbury. Most CV/AH folks went to Divisadero and Inner Sunset for food/shopping and pretty much avoided Haight Street at all costs. Out of sight, out of mind.
Interestingly, I'm now seeing a lot more CV/AH folks up in arms over the recent shootings, the amount of homelessness, and the general decline of Haight Street. As someone who's been trying to get folks to care about the state of Haight Street for years, it's really frustrating to see all these people act like the Haight started falling apart overnight as opposed to over several years (but especially since COVID).
