A list of puns related to "Aquaplane"
So every time I'm driving in the rain, I remember a scene from what I assume was an old movie I must've watched years ago but I have no idea what it was actually about.
The only bit I remember is that the driver, a teen I assume, is in class being taught what to do if the car starts to aquaplane. He isn't paying any attention and is messing around, and the teacher says something to the effect of "if you don't pay attention you won't know what to do!"
Later on he's driving and starts to aquaplane but then has a flashback to the class and tries to remember what to do, but only gets the teacher shouting at him and he has absolutely no idea.
This could've been an advert for something for all I know, but it's about time I try to find out...
And nearly shat myself!!! Going down an unlit 60mph road (at around 50) and my headlights showed me the huge puddle. Braked before hitting it but was probably still doing 30-40, started twitching sideways until I slowed down more a got the grip back. Nothing major to report but it sure shook me up, be careful out there.
Title says it all really.
This is my first winter of EV ownership and it's getting pretty wet out there, I have already driven through a few rivers motorways and it got me thinking, I have no idea what to do if I aquaplane, google isn't giving me any useful EV specific answers.
Why is this question EV specific?
I have always dealt with this by lifting off until control is regained, however now when I lift off the regenerative braking is strong, almost like breaking.
I could turn this mode off, however, that's going to kill the already slightly worrying range, and completely changes the driving characteristics of the vehicle, but maybe that's the expected way of dealing with it.
So, are any fellow EV drivers able to offer some advice?
Getting really into a career race. Cayman cup. Hockenheim short. During the race I'm aquaplaning behind ai who are getting on just fine! Perfect straight line for them, even during accelerating and braking. Anyone else had a race ruined by this? And yes I was using wets
After a few laps on fresh semi slicks (only tires we had for the day), the back straight had puddled up after many hours of constant rain, ensue hydroplaning and stained pants - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up_5VHMi1_0
Hello!
Firstly, I just want to say that I'm not actually a previous reddit user and did only come to know about this site recently.
Last week I saw a video posted here of my car aquaplaning on the M61 motorway in the UK. The story was published in the UK by various newspapers as well as being on other sites like this.
I just want to clarify a few things and clear any misconceptions that there may be about the video.
The video link is attached below for those who haven't seen it, I don't know how to embed.
Before all else, the video was posted, not to show 'driver skill' as presumed by many, more so because myself and my brother felt it should go onto youtube as fortunately as we had a dash cam. As a result we could share the experience so others can see it and hopefully prevent themselves ever getting into that situation. We never ever anticipated that the video would become so big.
Rather than to be in denial, I spent alot of time reading comments and this post is a brief response to these comments. No doubt I have learned from the experience, thankfully it wasn't a costly lesson but an eye opener to me. Since the incident, I have had my tyres changed and had a long hard think about my driving style in severe conditions.
There were comments made about driving games etc, and although they are direct quotes from me, they have been completely misunderstood by the vast majority. I did not mean Forza (in fact I never mentioned Forza?) on a games console, what I actually meant is PC based driving and racing simulators with force feedback steering wheels. What I meant, was I feel the years of using a steering wheel to play video games helped my instinct when I could feel what was happening and that the second or two not spent panicking may have been the difference of having an impact collision.
Speed. Okay, I probably was travelling too fast for the conditions in hindsight , although I wasn't actually speeding. There was a sudden change in weather and road condition. The 45 minutes leading up to that point was rain too, immediately after the point of aquaplane there was ALOT of hailstones lining the tarmac. I am fortunate there was no one in the left lane as I lost control, and I have taken on board the relevant feedback I have seen in comment sections on websites.
Thanks for allowing me to clear things up.
