As the title says, I cannot get used to my newly bought Fern. It has been nearly two weeks since I received the chair. I haven't used it more than 2 to 3 hours at once as I am currently not working from home. Still, my butt starts hurting after just 15-20 minutes sitting on the chair. This also causes my legs to fall asleep. I then need to stand up and walk away for a moment. I tried adjusting the chair so that my feet are touching the ground, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. My lower back has also started to hurt slightly. I don't have these issues with my chair at the office. Other than that, it is a really great chair and I don't have many options to choose from as I am living in Europe. Does anyone else have similar experiences? What did you do? At this point I am considering of returning the chair.
I recently bought a Haworth Fern and I'll give it a couple more days but I have about 10 days left in the return window and I'm thinking I'll return it.
I find it super comfortable to sit down on initially, it's like a hammock for your back. I like the tension system for dialing in the perfect feel when leaning back and relaxing, I like the arm adjustability, and I like the seat tilt option to be able to get in a more forward leaning position easily.
But after a few hours I find it starts getting difficult to find a comfortable regular upright position in it. I'm moving around much more than I was on my older more basic chair trying to get comfortable. My middle and lower back starts hurting after a while. It feels like I might as well be sitting on a stool, the back support is so flexible that it's like it's not doing anything. I have the version with no lumbar support as I read reviews that the lumbar support on this chair can be too intense and is kind of uncomfortable, but maybe that was a mistake for me.
Part of me wonders if maybe this is better in some ways, if it forces me to keep my core engaged and posture better? I'm also definitely thinking about the comfort a lot more since I know it's a new chair, maybe some of it is placebo. But most likely I think this is just not a good chair for me.
So I'm thinking I need a chair with more of a solid back rather than something with a flexible mesh back like this. I think that means the Embody and Aeron are also probably out? I'm thinking the Steelcase Gesture or maybe Leap, do those have a more solid back that can be more stable to lean against? Any other suggestions?
Hey guys,
I've had my Fern for about 4 days now and it's amazing. I researched a ton (Embody vs Fern vs Gesture, etc.) and finally settled on this chair, so I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any questions about it.
It arrived with a few minor scuffs, but Haworth credited me back $100 and are replacing the arm pads for me. Great customer service so far.
Hi! I’m 6’4” ~210 Lbs. Any tall folks use this chair?
Any feedback would be super helpful, many thanks!
He also has more homers than Yasiel Puig, JD Martinez, Miguel Cabrera, Yoenis Cespedes and Mike Trout.
Title. Any suggestions to fix or troubleshoot? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello,
I'm currently trying to cancel my order but there's no option to do so? Also all the phone numbers listed in the site i'm calling just goes to voicemails for reps to call me back. Is this site legit? Office Furniture | Haworth
Decided to get a Zody during the black friday promotion.
I had an Ikea Markus for 5 years. I'm not a lightweight (+/- 100kg, 1m82)
It will be used for gaming, I'm not a homeworker.
The chair arrived 7 days after I ordered it, which was as promised. Have it since November 30th
The Good
I love the customization options, everything is adjustable. The mesh back is like the Markus but stronger, sturdier, more support. The armrests and the seat are somehow...softer than the markus but feel harder? Or is it the other way around? I'm not sure but it sits better in the long run.
The customer support (explained below)
The Bad
It's the 19th now and I'm on my 2nd Zody. I liked the first one but during assembly (which is putting in 1 screw to put the seat and the back together) I noticed a loose wire near the tilt tension It wasn't completely loose but copper was exposed and the tilt tension didn't do anything. I only realized that was not my fault after 4 days. Chairs are complex or I'm a dumbass. Pick.
There was also some piece of plastic near the lumbar support that came off. It just fell on the ground. It was after that that I mailed Haworth to ask them about these 2 issues.
I also started an internet search on my own and posted on a dutch forum. There I read that the plastic piece could easily be put back in and could always be taken out, mine just got out by itself. 1 problem solved. They couldn't tell me anything about the loose wire though but I decided to put it in near the tension adjust and see if it worked...and it did.
After a few more days of use I noticed the tilt tension would get stuck sometimes though so the fix would not be permanent
The Funny
So my chair was fully functional but I had already mailed. I got a mail back 2 days later where they offered an immediate replacement of the whole chair. They arranged for the old chair to be picked up and for a new one to be delivered. They promised to deliver a new chair first then to pick up the bad one.
So 1 day passes and I get a mail from TNT for a pick-up arrangement. I also get a DHL mail for a delivery. The pick-up is on wednesday and the delivery is on friday. Hmmmm. Wednesday comes and my Zody is being picked up. Glad I still got my trusty old Markus. Thursday comes, suddenly TNT at my door with a delivery. I'm excited! The replacement is one day earlier! I open the package and tadaaaaa....it's the chair they picked up yesterday with a "repaired" label taped on the box.
... keep reading on reddit ➡I used to sit in a Hayworth Zody at my old workplace and i loved it. I bought a herman miller embody chair and currently returning it due to leg aches.
I’m currently waiting for my Zody to arrive and unsure if the seat will last since most people mentioned it will bottom out after 6 months.
Is the Fern better in this case?
I'm really interested in buying a fern after looking for a while, but not seeing anywhere where I can purchase one used. I'd rather buy from a verified refurbisher as I don't want to go through the trouble of repairing anything myself, but the only options I'm seeing are the usual suspects, Madison seating, office chair at home, etc.
Are there any reputable online sellers? I have no outlets near me whatsoever.
I've recently bought a refurbished Haworth Zody.
I've cranked the tilt tension to max and have activated the back stop when it is in it's default position, but whenever I sit in it seems very keen to start reclining. With the back stop activated I would have thought it would not tilt back at all but it tilts back maybe 1/4 of the way compared to when the backstop isn't activated.
When working at my desk it feels like I pretty much have to have the seat tilted forward to be how I would expect feel, with quite a bit of tension required to make it lean back and being in a good position overall, but then the seat is tilted slightly.
So is this how the Zody is meant to be? Or have I got a slightly dodgy refurb? This is my first foray into expensive office chairs after using an Ikea Markus for the pasty 7 years or so, so want to get it right!

Hello,
I am looking to get a Hawthorn Fern and I see that Modenplanet.com has them for like half price what the Haworth site charges. One of those "seems too good to be true" moments. Anyone have experience with them?
Hi guys I'm in Orlando FL 32828. I have a bunch of Aeron's and other chairs for sale.
Armless Aeron's. These have been inspected and parts replaced as needed. Mainly cylinders, sometimes severely cracked lumbar pads, and some seats and backs were replaced due to rips in mesh. $200 each.
Aeron's with dial-lock armrests. Again, these have all been inspected, and parts were replaced as needed. New cylinders, new lumbar pads, new seats, and new backs as needed. $250 each.
Flip lock Aeron size C. Some minor snags in seatpan, cracked lumbar cushion, but mechanically everything works fine. New cylinder, too. $300.
2017 Flip lock Aeron size B, fully loaded, Like new condition, $500. sold on fb
Herman Miller Mirra 1. I pressured washed the seat, as well as used OxiClean on the seat. Foam pad was also removed and cleaned. Inspected, fully working. Kinda old and beat up, so only $150. sold on fb
2015 Haworth Zody, fully loaded with 4D arms, forward tilt, rear tilt, pelvic and lumbar support, super comfortable chair, $200. sold on fb
Steelcase Amia, cleaned, good condition, 4D armrests and lumbar support, $80 each. sold on fb
Herman Miller Setu, runs in seat, $80. sold on fb
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!

Hi!
After been throught a chair hunting quest, I decided that Haworth Fern will be my champion and serve me for the next 5+ years.
At first I thought I might get a non-headrest one but after talked with dealer in my country, they said that they don't usaully sell Fern without headrest and don't have any non-headrest model for testing either. I can still order Fern without a headrest but have to wait around 2 months.
And after tried Fern many times (only headrest model), I still can't decided whether I like headrest or not. It doesn't get in the way when sit straight like Leap or Gesture but I can still feel it a little bit, however when I lean back it does a pretty good job supporting my neck.
So right now I can't decided between headrest or non-headrest model. I really need answer from you guys and would love to hear your thought on this. (Headrest model only cost 40USD more than non-headrest model but in the end the non headrest one might cost exactly the same due to it is a special order)
1 For you guys who have Fern right now which one you ended up with? And if you have a second chance do you still choose the same option?
2 Do you feel that the headrest take a lot of flexiblity and back support from the backrest to the point that the backrest without the headrest is much better than the one with headrest. Also do you feel that headrest make you feel uncomfortable overtime or create stress or pain at your neck area?
(I found this problem In Gesture. I think that Gesture headrest push my head and upper back too much forward which make my upper pack doesn't have any support. In the end I feel like Gesture without headrest does a much better job on supporting the back.)
3 Does the headrest get softer overtime?
4 The top of Fern seem really sharp so without the headrest does top of the chair dig into your upper back or neck when lean back?
5 I saw Marshall Fox review on youtube and he used a pillow neck when lean back instead of a headrest. I also saw some comment in this sub also said the same thing. What do you think about this option (buy a non headrest and if you want to lean all the way back to relax just use a pillow neck)
6 My sister suggests that I should buy a headrest model. She claimed that at home when I was sitting upright, my head lean towards a liitle bit and since the Fern headrest curve isn't that aggressive like Leap or Gesture maybe I won't feel the headrest. She also believed that at home I won't sit straight all the time.
... keep reading on reddit ➡I just bought my Fern and I’m super excited to try it out! I went with the Oceanic Flotsam because it was about $160 cheaper than the wool counterparts, and because I wanted something that I wouldn’t have to worry about stains/getting dirty. Has anyone tried out this fabric? How did you like it? Thank you!!
