Zambian Carnivore Programme and Frankfurt Zoological Society in association with the Department of National Parks & Wildlife published the following report:
Luangwa Valley is a stronghold for the endangered African wild dog and the national park's like North Luangwa are core areas.
Chakolwa pack has been monitored since it was formed in 2017 from dispersing males and females from two different resident packs occupying Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park. The females that dispersed since traversed a great distance to finally settle in North Luangwa National Park.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Department of National Parks & Wildlife (DNPW), FZS, and ZCP a new satellite collar was successfully deployed on this pack, that has settled on the Mwaleshi river and successfully linked with resident males and produced a litter of 10 pups this year, that will aid in continuing to monitor the pack.

Hi Reddit !
My name is Jean Christophe, I have a PhD in ecology and started my career as a wildlife veterinarian. I have worked with chimps, gorillas, Arabian oryx⦠and subsequently designed projects covering a wide variety of Neotropical species such as marine turtles, manatees, giant otters, primates and caimans. I oversee diverse aspects of the Global Species Programme at IUCN, and head the SOS Save Our Species initiative, dedicated to supporting local conservation projects on the ground, based on the researches and findings of our 10000 scientific colleagues.
We have entered the β6th Great Extinctionβ - the present rate of extinction is 100 to 1000 times higher than before the Industrial Revolution. If the current rate of human disruption of the biosphere continues, a large portion of Earth's lifeforms will be extinct by 2100.
Conservation work is much more than just saving charismatic animals and plants; it aims at restoring our relationship with our environment and ensure that the benefits nature provides us will be sustainable.

Bonjour,
Merci.
Hi, I recently became interested in this topic and it seems like there a lot of debates and discussions in the field about the "best" ways to do things.
Can anyone point me towards any resources about how to measure the impact of conservation programmes, particularly endangered "big game" species? Struggled to find much on this online, so it's difficult for me to discern whats good and what's not.
Thankd
The Arabian Wolf, a most magnificent creature, is endangered. Wars, conflicts and the inability to gain access to said creatures has made conservation difficult to near on impossible. In turn, the Arabian wolf has become endangered. The Cypriot government, armed with a spate of new eco/preservation policies, have decided to launch a breeding and conservation programme on the island itself.
This will involve taking some of the wolves from the Arabian regions themselves and, building new reserves and launching an extensive breeding programme to get the population back up to safe levels. The Cypriot government shall provide an initial $15 Million to get the programme up and running and shall work with private enterprises (Charities and business) to raise further funds.
The Prime Minister, writing in The Cypriot Times, stated;
> Conservation of this animal is imperative. Should we be successful, this will pave the way for further conservation programmes and animal welfare initiatives, hopefully preserving magnificent creatures such as the Arabian Wolf for our children and grandchildrenβ¦
Environmental and animal welfare groups have welcomed the move, praising the Prime Ministers defiance in the wake of backbench pressure to drop the proposals at this difficult time. Philipp Marinos, chief officer of the Mediterranean Endangerment Trust stated in a press release earlier today;
> I rarely ever agree with the Prime Minister, however this time heβs got something spot on and I hope this is a sign the winds are changing.
