A list of puns related to "Timber rafting"
I bought and beat the core game about a month before Echoes was released. I LOVED the main game, and was surprised by how it was able to have so much emotional impact. The Nomai became my favorite depiction of the "ancient unknowable civilization" trope, as they felt so human and so real. And so sad. The idea that the game was about discovering how the game worked and that a total knowledge of the games mechanics makes it trivial to beat made OW feel like a real experience, and more than just a game. Knowing how good the original game was, I expected Echoes to be pretty great as well.
I was NOT expecting Echoes to be the masterpiece that it was! I am baffled by the level of new content, detail, and care went into this 15 dollar DLC. It was like a whole new game! So i just wanted to say what I loved about this expansion.
First: Tone. I am a fan of Horror games, although I am admittedly not always good at them. When i opened the DLC and it offered low fright mode, I thought "oh, a horror experience? This should be... interesting". Seeing the Stranger block the sun gave a real ense of dread. Approaching the massive Stranger for the first time, with the music it plays was... daunting and scary. Then you get inside and its... nice. The Stranger's interior is a lot like Timber Hearth, like home. But all around you see writing that, for the first time in the game, you cant read. Thats... a bit freaky. Finding the slide reels was so interesting, but the burned ones were terrifying. I remember the one where the owelks discover the Eye's nature especially well. They started out sad and fearful, but their expressions turn to anger. It was clear that these aliens would be different from the Nomai. The Nomai's obsession with the Eye was one of reverence. The owelks looked at it with hatred. I first found the owelk corpses by entering the tower after it collapses. Seeing their withers bodies in the water right before the loop ended filled me with dread.
So our first impressions of the Stranger's inhabitants is one of fear and dread. They are dangerous. This is very different to the Nomai, who always felt so human and kind, even from first impressions.
Second: Gameplay. I think I actually may have enjoyed the gameplay of Echoes even more than the original in a lot of ways. The light mechanics were fun and interesting, but also intuitive in the right ways. The rafting was fun and the raft music was wonderful. It was overall much less frustrating than locations like Br

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
TLDR; A small few caused the OwlElks' downfall and the rest were forced to follow.
Iβve seen a lot of posts recently wondering why the OwlElks didnβt leave the Stranger after blocking the Eyeβs Signal, to start a new life on a new planet somewhere. Timber Hearth was out there and as far as we know, not yet inhabited by any intelligent species (the Hearthians were in a tadpole stage as the first game explains.) Iβve read some beautiful deep-dives into why they chose to live in a simulation of their own home and I think thereβs a lot about those ideas that is accurate and intended with the story. But I noticed something else as I was playing and I canβt shake the feeling that there was also something more ominous happening behind the scenes.
When you go into the shrine rooms where the corpses of the OwlElk are, some of them have jewelry. Some have just a bracelet, others have just a necklace, some have one bracelet and one necklace, and fewer still have two bracelets and a necklace. The remainder have no jewelry at all. Honestly, I havenβt counted how many of each there are. Itβs something I intend to go back and do. Maybe one of yβall wants to. In the βart-styleβ reels, none of the OwlElk are ever depicted wearing any jewelry. At first I thought: 'oh well, dead end', but then I revisited the βfilm-styleβ reels, which show the many secrets of the Stranger. In all - and I mean all - of these reels, the Fancy OwlElk (Iβm just going to call the ones with two bracelets AND a necklace βFancy OwlElkβ from this point forward - you donβt commonly see ones with just a bracelet or just a necklace in the reels) are the ones who are hiding things. Let me go through the ones I remember:
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
I absolutely loved Echoes of the Eye and thought nearly every part of it met or even exceeded the quality and emotional impact of the base game. However, there's one thing about the DLC that seemed a little underdeveloped and has room for improvement, and that's >!the ending of EotE.!< >!Not the ending at the Eye of The Universe (which is fantastically poignant and executed brilliantly) nor the memory exchange scene (which made me ugly cry in the best way) but the scene after you leave the vault and find the vision torch standing by itself with no sign of your new friend and see The Prisoner's final message of sailing off into the sunset together.!<
>!When I reached that point, I went from a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction from unraveling the final mysteries of The Stranger and sharing everything I've learned about the Nomai and the Eye of the Universe with the one person who made it all possible, to a sense of confusion and the feeling that I was missing something. It felt strangely incongruous to see a vision about setting off into the sunset on a raft with The Prisoner, and then to have a raft right in front of the torch but no sign of them. It felt like I had made a new friend only for them to immediately ghost me the first chance they got.!<
>!I eventually pieced together what had happened (aided by a hint when listening to the soundtrack later from the name of the song that plays while leaving the vault titled "The Sound of Water" which implies the Prisoner wanted to hear the sound of water one last time before moving on) but that moment of almost hurt confusion left a bit of an anticlimactic aftertaste that lasted until I went to the Eye again, and I have seen numerous accounts of others on this subreddit that felt similarly.!<
>!After thinking about what would be the best way to address that moment in a way which would bring complete closure to your adventures on The Stranger, I came up with a headcanon scene after leaving the Vault that (in my totally biased opinion) would send the emotional impact of meeting the Prisoner to the stratosphere.!<
>!The vision torch would still be there when you leave the vault, but the Prisoner would be standing at the edge of the water facing away from you (the raft would be out of the way on the other side of the water to remove ambiguity). Once you go to the vision torch and see their message of sailing off together into the sunset the Prisoner would turn towards you and

Five days was all it took for the first lead on the greatest prize to behold, another messenger passing through was briefly 'interrogated' by John, revealing that there was allegedly a substantial amount of alcohol stored and possibly made over to the east-southeast. A quick look at a couple maps showed that Yurunen-on-Kerim was in the mountains, several days away. Fuck's sake. I gotta haul ass to make it a ten day trip.
"Where's the list of nasty plant stuff? Bloody hell, it's in my pocket. Hmm, that's the juicy kind of plant that makes you sleepy eh? I want several kilos of that greystem, a lot more actually, a lifetime supply. I'll take some of those vases too." John scribbled onto his thrown together shopping list, he was still in a rough shape but he would be damned if he was going to sit around being unproductive. The list of strange flora was more than what he could remember in a couple goes, but most of it was useless anyways, most of the non-medicinal stuff just slowly kills you, which isn't great, especially if it hits an unintended target.
"You'll be bleeding us dry, but damn if this isn't exciting." Hannon had generously donated the large cart again, and several others have volunteered to join in the first resource expedition of the 'Saerna weapons development program' as John called it. The threat of another force moving south was minimal, so everyone was on low alert. "Other town lords generally respect official seals from other towns, and given that this isn't some merchant band, I'll be granting one. Show this letter to anyone who asks, I know at least one who will," he handed off a note to Kalo, who tucked it away in a satchel.
"Huntmaster, why are you going, don't you have stuff here to keep you busy?" John was confused why one of the village leaders was going as well, surely they had more important things to do, like running the place.
"I've been around some, and you lot will get yourselves lost by tomorrow. I've got an old friend over on the way that I want to see again anyways."
With what stuff is being taken sorted by Kalo and budgeting being done hastily by ol' moneybags Hannon, the selection for who can go was sorte

But after a tour of the spooky simulation world they decided that there was no way in hell they were going to brave those stealth sections. Since the time loop allows them unlimited attempts at guessing the codes for the three seals in the Subterranean Lake, this hatchling decides to just brute force the three puzzles instead. Will this path eventually drive them insane, or are they on the path to victory sooner than you might suspect? Letβs find out.
The coded locks have five rows with eight different symbols to choose from on each row. Furthermore, the lock gives no indication that a particular symbol is correct in a particular row. For two of the locks only when the full correct code is entered does it have any visible effect. The third lock controls sections of an invisible bridge, so its correct code does not have a visible effect at all. Weβll come back to that lock in a moment.
Since we are working with codes where the order of the symbols matter, we are working with permutations rather than combinations which means there is a higher number of possible codes. And we are working with a code where repetition is allowed, such as 33233, and that increases the possible permutations too.
There are 8 symbols on each of the 5 rows. To get the permutations we calculate Symbols to the power of Rows. Or 8 to the power of 5. This is (8x8x8x8x8) or 32,768 code permutations.
And with three locks thatβs 98,304 possible codes to enter via brute force.
But wait! Although the invisible bridge lock has no visible or auditory cues when the code is correct, the hatchling may eventually discover by touch that there are five sections of an invisible bridge moving along with the symbols. This means that they can actually guess the code by process of elimination each time they feel another section of the bridge beneath their feet. So they just have to brute force the symbols on each row individually. Eight symbols times five rows is 8 x 5 = 40 choices. As long as the hatchling bothers to attempt every possible exploit in the Subterranean Lake they should eventually learn about the invisible bridge while testing if each row on the locks produces any individual effect. And brute forcing 40 choices should only take one loop. If the hatchling is willing to resort to brute forcing the codes rather than doing the stealth sections, theyβre probably go

tldr: EotE is great, but not as great as what came before. EotE never engrained itself into my personality like Outer Wilds did and it never will, due to the list of reasons below. Outer Wilds is so much more than the sum of parts, and EotE lacks many of those parts, and doesn't tie the ones it already has together with itself or the base as well as Outer Wilds did.
Outer Wilds is easily my favourite game ever. More than that, it is my favourite fictional creation ever, across books, movies and games. I love this game so much. And I think I need to explain why I loved Outer Wilds before I explain my thoughts on EotE.
Outer Wilds was so good for - reasons imo. First of all, the exploration. Each planet and location in Outer Wilds is both lonely, at times awe inspiring, creative and unique. Each location deserves to be explored regardless of the story it hides their, they're that well done. From the lonely Interloper hiding dark secrets, to the terrifying and mind blowing Dark Bramble, to the incredible Hourglass Twins. And not only that, but watching them evolve, orbit and change with the strict physics and rules of this universe was facinating (more about that later). But not only are they fantastic locations, they're a joy and an adventure to explore because of reasons number 2 and 3.
The movement mechanics in this game are fantastic, and part of that is due to the consistent world around you. One of my favourite moments from Outer Wilds was launching off Timber Hearth, looking at the planets orbiting around the Sun and realising I could go anywhere. And through some incredible physics based space flight I landed on Attlerock for the first time. It was scary and hard, but not because the controls were bad, but because physics doesn't care about the player, physics is physics, and in space that means flying is really difficult to a new player. The joy of learning those movement mechanics and eventually mastering them allowed for incredible moments, like boosting to my spaceship with the lasts of my oxygen reserves after it went flying off the Interloper, ejecting out of my spaceship and boosting to Hollows Lantern to land into the volcano from space (I didn't realise landing spots appear later in the loop), and everything that happens on Giants Deep involving water tornados.
This really shows how the environment ties into the movement. Because the planets and the universe always follows the same physics as the player, it creates a fascinating level im
