A list of puns related to "Sign (mathematics)"
I'm writing a TV show, so as a creative arty type I have only surface knowledge of mathematics, but want to have the right kind of specialist be called on to solve the crisis in the story.
More detail on the problem: We need to replace the roadsigns into a functionally working network - it doesn't have to be the original layout, just one that allows traffic to flow down every road, without any closed loops or 'logic errors'.
In the world of the story, the original road plans are unavailable when the crisis hits, requiring this in-the-moment solution of raw brainpower.
And what was it?
Or was it a school lesson? A TV programme? Even a relative.
Yes basically what is written in the headline.
My nephew visited me for the Christmas break and we spend the most time doing nothing for his school. He is in last year of elemantary school.
Then I was able to convince to do something. It turned out that he just has no fucking idea from anything. Topics from two month ago were forgotten and the new ones never stayed in his brain.
I've seen tests from two month ago were he basically failed so hard. I've seen the results coincidentally, so there was actually no problem for my sister (a single mother with two kids from two different fathers, who gave birth especially to the second child because its a sin to abort) she didn't even mention the bad marks. The teacher made his mother sign the test, and they never corrected the test at home, didn't even tell me anything, so there was nothing wrong for them.
Whenever I begged my (uneducated made it barely to 9th grade) sister in the past (who herself is 24/7 on Facebook and Instagram) to not just give this little dude the Nintendo switch she said that there is no need because he does his homework after school when he is supervised where he spends time after school till afternoon with 30 other pupils from different classes. When he comes home he is stressed too, and only wantd to play switch, if my sister asks him half heartedly to learn together he starts crying I wAnT to enjoy my free time and play all evening till sleeping time.
Drawing parallelogram, rhombus, division all that basic stuff you need to know by heart in the 4th grade and this dudes sits in front of me and has no fucking idea.
I never ever wanted kids because of our history of a violent and narcissistic Dad and in general very neglectful parents. To see that my sister doesn't give any fuck about her children boils my blood and I feel like I lost my peace the last two days.
I wish I would know how to not care but it is so difficult because I'm a hardcore empathetic person. I wish I could just punch every person that brings a soul in this world and doesn't care what comes next.
Do you have such experiences and are you even able to say say: I can't rescue everyone, and distance yourself and how do you do that?
Hey /r/hungary
I signed a rent contract where it says the monthly rent is A and costs are B, deposit is specified as 2 month rents. I moved in yesterday.
The landlord asked me to pay him however 3 * (A+B) for deposit and this month though ...
Looks to me like an obvious scam.
But just to be sure: is this some kind of a law here that what is really meant by deposit is rent + costs, and a full rent is payable even if the start is in the middle of the month?
Welcome to our weekly feature, Ask Anything Wednesday - this week we are focusing on Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science
Do you have a question within these topics you weren't sure was worth submitting? Is something a bit too speculative for a typical /r/AskScience post? No question is too big or small for AAW. In this thread you can ask any science-related question! Things like: "What would happen if...", "How will the future...", "If all the rules for 'X' were different...", "Why does my...".
Asking Questions:
Please post your question as a top-level response to this, and our team of panellists will be here to answer and discuss your questions. The other topic areas will appear in future Ask Anything Wednesdays, so if you have other questions not covered by this weeks theme please either hold on to it until those topics come around, or go and post over in our sister subreddit /r/AskScienceDiscussion , where every day is Ask Anything Wednesday! Off-theme questions in this post will be removed to try and keep the thread a manageable size for both our readers and panellists.
Answering Questions:
Please only answer a posted question if you are an expert in the field. The full guidelines for posting responses in AskScience can be found here. In short, this is a moderated subreddit, and responses which do not meet our quality guidelines will be removed. Remember, peer reviewed sources are always appreciated, and anecdotes are absolutely not appropriate. In general if your answer begins with 'I think', or 'I've heard', then it's not suitable for /r/AskScience.
If you would like to become a member of the AskScience panel, please refer to the information provided here.
Past AskAnythingWednesday posts can be found here. Ask away!
I vaguely remember a story about a colleague (a French mathematician maybe) who was slow but came up with great stuff. Is this ringing any bells with anyone?

My method was to rearrange to find an inequality in terms of x. By multiplying the denominator and adding 4 I get that x<7. The mark scheme acknowledges x<7 but also specifies x>4. How can that be deduced (the mark scheme is challenging).

(Wallstreetbets removed my analysis, this is another sub where I can post, tell me what you think)
Let me try to explain the simplest form. (Below you can try the formula to predict share price yourself with calculator.)
The Sincostan -analysis. This is a simple way of measuring how one variable (share float) is corresponding to another variable (stock price). Like below for Gamestop where x = shares outstanding

Lucky for you, Googles calculator supports the sincostan -analysis and you can try it yourself. Just go to google and type the company name to the calculator. In case of gamestop, type "gamestop" and you will get the formula for the stock.
Type \"gamestop\" to calculator and you will have the formula
Ok, you have the formula, press enter to get the price prediction
As stock price can variate between 0 - infinity and thus can't be negative, you can ignore the minus sign in front of the value when predicting stock price with sincostan -alalysis.
So you may now wonder what is the timeline for the prediction come true?
As you already know, all trigonometric functions can be constructed geometrically in a unit circle with center O. When radians (rad) are employed, the angle is given as the length of the arc of the unit circle subtended by it: the angle that subtends an arc of length 1 on the unit circle is 1 rad (β 57.3Β°), and a complete turn (360Β°) is an angle of 2Ο (β 6.28) rad. When the complete turn of 360Β° is made, the stock price max pain will be the result of The Sincostan -analysis. In case of gamestop, infinity.
To be honest, I havenβt gotten far enough in my calculations and formula yet to figure out what and how to fill the circle. If you know Mathematics and have an idea, please contact. However, I have modeled the current situation in the image below.

If someone is interested, this
... keep reading on reddit β‘What's his standing in the mathematician community? Is he widely known among students and professors? Was he internally awarded the 'balls of steel' award? :D What's the general opinion here?

If any!
For example, the collatz conjecture would probably be an easy one people find counterintuitive.
Seems simple enough lol...
Although it can be any aspect!
Do you have any specific reasons to support your response? how interesting is the subject when compared with other topics?
Hi,
I'm new to this sub, but I'm hard of hearing and learning asl.
I am a mathematician and I work in physics, or physics-like problems. I was wondering if there have been any deaf/hoh mathematicians or physicists, and if so, whether their linguistic/signing choices have survived. I want to learn to communicate/teach math in ASL better, but I want to try and follow any pre-existing signs before I start constructing them myself. (To be clear, I don't mean classes like calculus or algebra; I mean classes like topology, manifold theory, etc.)
Edit: Thanks y'all! This has been a windfall for resources. I really appreciate it.
I have grapheme-color synesthesia and some of the mathematical signs have colors for me, e.g. β is dark red (probably because E is red), and β is greenish yellow (probably because A and V are yellow shades, and there's a letter in my native language that looks like an upside-down V that is green). Other signs don't have any colors if they don't look similar to any letter, e.g. I know that + is darker than - but can't say either of them is "dark" or "light" or of any shade. Even β, which is technically a letter, because it is nonexistent in neither English nor my native alphabet, doesn't have a color (or is it just a coincidence?). So does your synesthesia count mathematical signs as graphemes?
Hi, I go to UCLA, and no joke just bombed a real analysis final worth 90% of my grade. I'm pretty upset, but there's not much I can do in terms of dwelling that would be beneficial to me. In my dream scenario, I go get a PhD in Number Theory at a solid University after my time here at UCLA, but after seeing some of my competition and the fact that I'm going to have to retake one of the most important classes for a math major, I feel like I'm boned. Please let me know if I'm overreacting, but to me this situation makes me feel like I just kissed a solid grad school goodbye.
i have read every single comment here, you guys are awesome. thank you so much.
this post is good advice for others and i will take some of it here, but i got lucky somehow on the final and ended up with a B- in the class.
