A list of puns related to "Planetary surface"
I noticed a few months ago that I can now hear the wind on atmospheric planets, echoes, and things in general sound different on atmospheric worlds that I didn't notice before. Sometimes I see plants moving due to the wind as well. Does this mean we might get things like basic weather sometime soon? I'm not asking for much just some sand or snow blowing in the wind or a wispy cloud to fly through for now. Just something to make the planetary surfaces seem more lively and dynamic. Mars has clouds and wind and many of the light atmosphere planets that we can land on in Odessey have clouds when viewed in horizons.
I remember reading what I think was an illustrated science-fiction series (but it's possible that it was just a single book) as a child in the 1990s. The style of illustration that I remember would put it in the 90s; it was about at the level of average 90s comic illustration quality.
I specifically remember scenes of craters on some planet (maybe the moon?) and the characters would drive around in something like an outer-space Sherp vehicle:

From my memory, they have something like a six-wheeled enclosed vehicle for driving around.
It was a relatively tame story, probably targetting the 8-13 age group. I believe I saw it at the library.
Any idea what this was?
Want to go exploring, engineered Krait and haven't collected materials for grinding since Horizons. That was simple. Scan and go visit the site. Collect mats. Might not have been very accurate for the immersion, but it was still time consuming.
This new process whatever it is, in Odyssey seems very hit and miss. I'm after Tellarium for example for the FSD v1 engineered, which I;ve found enough to get that FSD and the ADV DSS, but there's other mats I want and it took me frickin' hours to find it all.
I don't always get the geo sites coming up on the left panel even though the DSS says they are there.
Is there a secret to how to find mats on the surface? I just seem to be wandering around aimlessly hoping the wave scanner will point me to the good stuff.
Any and all help greatly appreciated as always CMDRs. o7
Do I have a chance of being interdicted and killed by having a lot of scan data? i have 0 cargo
I donβt mean functional stuff, I mean all sorts of random stuff. Iβm thinking of stuff to put in my Mun base. Go wild, mobile launch pads, outdoor seating areas, cafes, what crazy things should I add?
When designing a planet that has plate tectonics, like Earth, it's pretty easy to figure out where formations like mountains, valleys, volcanoes, and such are supposed to go. What about designing dead cratery worlds like Mercury, the Moon, or Callisto, or volcanic worlds like Venus and Io, or other such planets where there is either no plate tectonics or haven't been any for a long time? What is a good way to approach designing these kinds of planets and moons so that they are realistic?
...makes you appreciate the small things.

Rewatching ALL of Star Trek and seeing Voyager landing for the first time in "The 37s" got me wondering if the Definant could land.
(BSG style atmospheric entry, tearing up EVERYTHING!!)
Found the landing struts on the plans from memory-alpha, anything else?
Arf just pointed this out in today's community stream.
To elaborate more, this isn't just referring to Auto-docking at outposts and settlements, Auto-Dock (more appropriately Auto-Landing in this case) will search for a flat plot of land on a planet to land on.
For those out of the loop, there's a sort of 'meta' with using medium or small ships to land on planets since using a large ship is rather painful when trying to land on uneven planet surfaces. This is clearly evident when visiting certain Guardian sites, where if you're using an anaconda for example it takes a lot of time to find a landable clearing of the surface, Auto-Dock will now help solve this issue.
Imo, this goes a long way to make a very frequently mocked module actually useful even if you are good at docking at stations and prefer to do it manually.
Today I scanned an earth-like planet and it only said I was going to the codex, but I didn't get any credits. So how can I make credits with planetary surface scans?
When you launch a ship launch fighter while flying above a planet, the fighter is teleported into space, hundreds of km out of range and then it explodes. This bug was reported during the alpha, remains in the game at launch.
Is there a mod that will allow me to know which direction to take off from a planet to match the orbiting ship so I can dock? It's always been guess and check for me....maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Any advice would be helpful.
Is there an efficient way to navigate to planetary surface locations defined only by coordinates (x/y)?
Iβm planing a beagle point trip and Iβm on the fence if I should wait or not, thank you if anyone knows!
So pretty much I just landed on the surface of a planet for my very first time and now Iβm kinda riding the high of it cause I loved it so much. So I was wondering what activities there are that would allow me to do that more often. Iβve been doing space Uber and bounty hunting my entire time playing so Iβve never actually done any planetary stuff before
How could would it be if we could do these both from SRV and on foot, but we don't seem to have a data link scanner on our suits?
For the most part, the planets generated in Elite: Dangerous look pretty decent, even when walking around on them. Did they just wrap a noise pattern around a spheroid and extrapolate from there or were more complex systems used?
