A list of puns related to "Nelumbo lutea"
Yes. They are a scam.
Do not buy from anyone claiming to have seeds or extracts of blue Nelumbo nucifera "sacred lotus." Neither Nelumbo nucifera nor lutea (the only two species) produces blue pigments. Only yellow, white, and pink are possible. All images of blue Nelumbo are photoshopped.
Systematic qualitative and quantitative assessment of anthocyanins, flavones and flavonols in the petals of 108 lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) cultivars, doi:10.1016/j.foodchem.2013.02.010
> Previously, we collected more than three hundred lotus cultivars including wild cultivars and hybrids from all over the world. The petals of these cultivars contain all the colours that exist in lotus, including red, pink, yellow, white and red/white pied.
Flower Color Diversity Revealed by Differential Expression of Flavonoid Biosynthetic Genes in Sacred Lotus, doi:10.21273/JASHS03848-16
> Although [N. nucifera and N. lutea] differ morphologically and genetically, there is no reproductive barrier between them, and more than 800 cultivars have been created by natural and artificial hybridization (Zhang, 2011). These cultivars possess several attractive flower colors including red, pink, white, yellow, and versicolor, but compared with other ornamental plants, the lotus flower color is not rich in diversity yet.
Genetic diversity and relationships of lotus (Nelumbo) cultivars based on allozyme and ISSR markers, doi:10.1016/j.scienta.2008.02.011
> The color of lotus is mostly white or pink. Since the introduction of N. lutea into China, the color of cultivated lotus has become more diverse. In general, rhizome lotus is mostly white; seed lotus is primarily pink, while flower lotus is very rich in color variation.
Characterization of Flower-Bud Transcriptome and Development of Genic SSR Markers in Asian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.), doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0112223
> Efforts by traditional breeding methods have produced many lotus cultivars with diverse flower colors (red, pink, white, light yellow, multicolor), different flower forms (single, semidouble, double, duplicate, thousand-petalled), and an extend- ed flowering period [6,16].

... keep reading on reddit β‘First, thanks to everyone in this subreddit for combatting misinformation on blue lotus. From reading through it and the linked sources these past few days, I've learned it's virtually impossible to acquire real N. caerulea. Still, just because I've read so many good things about BouncingBearBotanicals', is theirs definitely fake as well?
Assuming it is, I think the best bet is to try another Nelumbo or Nymphaea species since many contain nuciferine or similar alkaloids in some amount. Does anyone know which would be best? The Nelumbo species I know of that are commonly sold are:
Nymphaea species that are commonly sold:
Whichever are best, what should they look like in dried form?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Going to be working on the subreddit in the coming days,
This guide is a WORK IN PROGRESS. Please give me time to complete it. Thank you.
Blue Lotus/Egyptian Lotus) = Nymphaea caerulea
Photos guide of live / dried Nymphaea caerulea https://i.ibb.co/ZXMNyVz/caerulea.jpg and at https://i.redd.it/wfaxs7uhq5j61.jpg
Sacred Lotus/Indian Lotus/Pink Lotus = Nelumbo nucifera
White Lotus = Nymphaea alba
American Lotus/Yellow Lotus = Nelumbo lutea
Both Nymphaea caerulea and Nelumbo nucifera contain Aporphine and Nuciferine among other related alkaloids like Coclaurine, Anonaine, Roemerine, Higenamine among others.
Blue Lotus officially refers to Nymphaea caerulea. It's petals have a sky-blue color to it's tips but can sometimes be almost completely white depending on conditions. It likes to flower between June-October when grown in America. The petals are distinct from Nelumbo and others in that Caeruleas petals are very "spiked" in appearance while others petals are fat and rounded. See this photo for comparison https://i.ibb.co/ZXMNyVz/caerulea.jpg and at https://i.redd.it/wfaxs7uhq5j61.jpg
It's important to note Nymphaea caerulea and Nelumbo nucifera do not dry purple and any herb sold that is of a purple color is not Nymphaea caerulea or Nelumbo nucifera. It is unlikely for anyone to have flower or extracts of Nymphaea caerulea as of 2020 although live plants can be found seasonally by pond/pool/water related stores and collectors. A live plant among others can be found growing at the Longwood Gardens Kennett Square, PA 19348 but they are re-doing their Lotus exhibit so call to make sure it's put out and flowering before you go. Longwood Gardens is dedicated to the preservation of many plants including Nymphaea caerulea.
Nelumbo nucifera has often been sold as Blue Lotus because it contains some of the same alkaloids such as Nucifeirne and is bigger in size. It's important to note Nelumbo nucifera petals are red or light pink and not blue or purple. It's must more common because Nelumbo nucifera is commercially grown and harvested for it's rhizome as a food item in other countries (primarily Asian countries but also India). This is also the same material that gets extracted as opposed to the stamen or flower which contain the most alkaloids. The most common being 10:1 leaf or rhizome extract

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
