A list of puns related to "List of food origins"
I remember seeing this film as a kid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNIsjZBnRR8. Really loved it. I always assumed the character was American and years later, I realize she's Swedish. I had a Swedish ex who told me (when she was a kid) that she assumed everyone in the world spoke Swedish, but used English only for films. Which is a pretty cute though.
I'm trying to think of some other things. There's a ton (but I can't recall at this moment) which I assumed was American and was surprised that it wasn't.
I'm bored during this lockdown so went through the 50 biggest US companies looking for who has South Asian origin executives. Turns out 24 have at least one. This is insane for a 1% minority, especially considering I rarely saw other Asian groups represented (maybe max 8-9 East Asian origin execs).
It also appears South Asians have more corporate executives than either African Americans or Latinos combined even though they are 30% of the US population.
Here's the list:
ADM : Senior VP
Alphabet: CEO + CEO of Google Cloud + VP, Chrome
Anthem Health: Executive VP
Berkshire Hathaway: Executive VP

Sysco (55th biggest): Senior VP

Humana (57th biggest): CTO + Chief Strategy Officer
Novartis: technically a Swiss company with Indian American CEO

This is chapter one of any world history class, yet I have had a hard time finding the body of around this and have never gotten a reply when I ask it.

Looking for either Anthem or Overkill's The Walking Dead (Not the Tell Tale Games one the first person shooter co-op one) The one that looks like Left 4 Dead :D
How can I know origine of foods bought at supermarkets? Only some foods are clearly marked, like cannes food but most of it is not marked at all.
I would like to become selective and eat British made as much as possible.
All has been pretty quiet here. My gray rocking continues to be my sanity saver and my hours are back to normal at work. (Jan is always a slow time in the restaurant industry)
I finally got two days off in a row and we needed to hit Costco. DH let HQ know that it was her turn to buy toilet paper. (We alternate) She proceeded to make a list of things she wanted. Mostly it was ok but there were some dumb unnecessary items that I could βforgetβ or say they didnβt have.
I went to therapy and then picked up DH and we went. We got what we needed and between at least 3 phone calls from HQ adding things to our list we got most of what she wanted. Of course we couldnβt get out without a chicken as itβs my favorite and DH always pulls off the skin and air frys it into cracklings for me as a treat since I donβt eat chips or crackers. I was feeling sick about the bill bc since DH isnβt getting disability anymore our monthly income has been cut in half. I start sorting through the cart to see if there are things I can live without.
DH then produces a beautiful thing. HQs debit card. She gave it to him for her bill. phew I was relieved and proud that he had made sure that we wouldnβt get stuck with her bill.
Our bill ended up being around $99 and hers was $150
I also buy two chicken bakes. Because Costco!
Not too bad for a Costco run. We split the laundry stuff (we paid for the Downey and we bought one bag of dog food and put the other on her bill) Just to establish that Iβm not wholly an ass and willing to contribute to household needs.
We got home and hauled it all in (I hauled it in bc DHs back) She puts it away grumbling about no coffee flavored candy or Cheetos. I retreat to the bedroom with my coveted chicken bakes and settle in. Then I hear DH discussing her bill and giving her the receipt and her card. She complains how the bill was SO high and how she hopes things will clear and hopefully her money comes in tomorrow. (Itβs fucking Costco not pick n save!!) Not to mention that we tried to get her to settle for Costco brand laundry stuff but she needs Tide and Downey. DH wanted Gain bc it works so well on getting the fryer oil smell out of my uniforms. I told him we could buy some at Walmart tomorrow just for that. Itβs ok. She then criticizes what we bought and informs DH she also needed milk. (We JUST bought a gallon on Monday) DH shows his shiny broken spine:
DH: βMom I JUST bought that milk monday, and itβs Godivas milk anyway because itβ

For example, the word "Kitab" is Arabic for "book" and you find it in use in Urdu, Farsi, Turkish, Indonesian, Bosnian, Malay, Rohingya, Swahili, etc. Also, the word "Fa'idah" is Arabic for "Benefit" and you find that in Urdu (and Hindi), Turkish, Farsi, Swahili, Indonesian, Bashkir, etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of more words like this.
Edit: A lot of the players defend the way microtransactions are done in this game by starting with something like: I've never felt the need to buy microtransactions. You are missing my point. I don't claim the game is too hard without them. I claim that they intentionally made a worse game to encourage microtransactions. I think leveling could've been more satisfying while having the exact same progression speed by decreasing the amount of levels in exchange for more skill points, similar to Assassin's Creed Syndicate (Proof they do know how to do this correctly). I think they intentionally made resource runs boring -and- dismantling weapons not a quick way to get resources at all intentionally, having very little variation on the types of resource runs, even though they've done it better in Far Cry 3 and 4. I do not claim the game -needs- you to have these resources, or these skill points at any point.
So to start, the game is definitely a good game. However, I've yet to see so much as a peep about this.
It should be noted that while it's improved on a lot of things, it's pretty clearly designed with the intention of enticing players with micro transactions. Nearly every gameplay element in the game is laced with that "If I only had a little bit more" type of vibe to it:
Each level only gives a single ability point, but two-third's of each ability tree takes 2 to 3 points. You also require more exp per level which means you effectively get less ability points for equal amounts of experience. You also don't gain more EXP for killing more difficult foes. This means you gain abilities half, a quarter, and eventually an eighth as quickly from the start of the game. Ability points can be bought with microtransactions in packs of 3 for about 3 dollars of "helix credits" each.
The best way to get weapons in this game is a 3000 drachma (in game currency) lootbox from a special merchant. You can buy money via micro transactions.
Crafting materials are meaningfully (As in in a way that happens quickly enough to actually upgrade items reliably) gained one way and one way only: You send your eagle up. They find either soldiers transporting it or an animal you need to kill for it. You go get it. It's usually a 300 to 1000 meter go. So 30 seconds to 2 minutes of riding your horse at it. Faster if you have a chariot, but you need to either steal one, or get the ability, which leads back to a previous
I have noticed that Bayek is voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch of Code Geass), Caesar by Hochu Otsuka (Jiraiya of Naruto), and some guardsmen are voiced by Daisuke Ono (Jotaro of JJBA). Out of those, a theory came into mind that AC Origins has a star studded line-up in the Japanese VA roles.

>> In recent days, the Egypt Exploration Society has disclosed that 11 manuscripts from their Oxyrhynchus collection were allegedly illegally sold by Professor Dirk Obbink to the Hobby Lobby organization. Two further fragments of pieces from the Oxyrhynchus collection have surfaced in a different American collection. Iβve been quoted in several news outlets as saying that we donβt yet know the scope of this problem. What I mean by this is that in the decade since Professor Obbink first connected with the Scott Carroll and the Green familyβs Hobby Lobby organization, ancient manuscripts of surprising quantity and quality have appeared on the antiquities market. Many of these pieces appeared with no provenance information or with very problematic or dubious provenance stories. I began to compile this list some time ago, taking inspiration from the very useful collection of data on post-2002 βDead Sea Scrollsβ at the blog of the Lying Pen of Scribes project and a list of known Green Collection manuscripts posted to Twitter by David Bradnick. In light of recent developments, it seems like a good idea to make this list βliveβ now, even in an incomplete state. Iβm focusing here on literary manuscripts in Greek and Latin that have shown up since about 2010. Iβm starting with some classical papyri (this is not just a βBibleβ thing; this mess affects you too, classicists) and early Christian pieces that did not appear on the list of items already known to have been stolen from the Egypt Exploration Society, which can be found here.
Edit: Thanks all for the suggestions so far. They're really good. However, I realized I didn't include an important point in my original post.
I am looking for a book that starts from the beginning - from pre-history and the first civilizations and forward. Kind of like an overall world primer on which to build from. Thanks!
I am sure that this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to narrow down what I'm looking for.
Generally, I want to learn about the native origins of our foods and ingredients, and I want to know when these native foods / ingredients spread to different regions over time. In this way, one can get a "snapshot" of a diet at a point of time and then see how that changes after a new food is introduced. Selfishly, a Euro-centric perspective would be most interesting, but that's not required.
Can someone recommend a book that might fit this? Thanks!
At least on preview, I'm not initially interested in the following:
Toussaint-Samat's History of Food - She seems to spend unnecessary time talking about the mythology and stories behind the food rather than the history of the food itself. Interesting in it's own right, but not what I'm looking for.
Food: A Culinary History - Seems to be too academic for my needs at this point. As my first food history book, I think I'd struggle getting through it.
I found a something called the "roleplay wiki" with a list of all of the known bosses, but only some have descriptions and actual pictures from the games. Like where do they get these descriptions? Why are there ones without descriptions/ pages? Why do some have pictures and some dont? How do they know the names? How do they know what these bosses do and what they look like? I'd like to read or play the games these are from but I dont know here they are from, like one boss, Jackal Trickster seems to have a picture from an actual sao thing but I dont know where it's from. And I mean all of the sao games, this list only covers Aincrad, I cant find a list of the GGO and AL bosses. I'd like to know which manga, light novel, game, or anime these came from.
Laaaady - emphasis on the a sound seems like homage to Jerry Lewis
D/oh jeesus - introduction to religious bit from user emails, stuck around even when the segment died
hwife - seems to be either homage to borat or making fun of a southern accent figure though I canβt pinpoint who exactly
Go fuck yourself - a Boston slang thing? Idk
