A list of puns related to "Juniperus communis"
I've dabbled and tried to experiment with common juniper, very different from American ones. Things of note about them, they grow from shrubbery to medium-sized trees, have very big lifespans and so on. They were used here in Finland as wooden fishing hooks and there have been some stories of them being made 'kid bows', tho obviously fresh and so on. Since besides elm and ash, for selfbows there not too much for native bow wood, though rowan and bird cherry do make alright bows too and birch maaybe.
They are very good in compression in terms of properties, though weakness with them is the tension, as people have made good shortbows out of them with backing like sinew. They are sort of like yew, but perhaps better in compression and poorer in tension.
One of the things to note is also that Kievan Rus, the Novgorod soldiers and so on, used common juniper as the belly for their bows, which had birch as the backing, some bone parts around the handle and perhaps the tips/or birch for the 'ears'. However it's debated if it was mistook from compressed pine or spruce (mechanically different wood from normal spruce or pine that grow slanted, being more flexible, which they were used for skiis and composite bows around the North here), which are also good in compression.
Am curious if anybody else has more info or experience with bows or so on with common juniper?
I have been working with a few Juniperus Communis over the past couple months. Every time I work with them by the time I'm finished I'll probably have been stabbed several hundred times and be bleeding in multiple spots all over my hands just from the needles. From the photos I've seen of other junipers and accounts of other people working with junipers this doesn't seem to be the case with other species of junipers. Are there any tips to working with such difficult and spiteful plants? I've tried wearing gloves and it doesn't work all that well I still end up in the same circumstance as without gloves. I'd appreciate any accounts of working with these trees and tips for avoiding the painful encounters.
Iβve heard and read a lot that yamadori common juniper are difficult. Some say βdonβt bother to even tryβ, other say itβs hard to collect while some say itβs hard to keep alive.
Iβve collected one (I prepared the collection 1,5 years in advance and got a lot of the fine roots collected) and itβs doing great. It was collected a year ago, planted in pure pumice without disturbing the roots (so lots of native sandy native soil in the training pot). Itβs grown very well this season with a lot of back budding. Because of the exceptional growing season I decided to wire the tree this fall to improve photosynthetic efficiency, giving each branch its own place in the sun. I did minimal pruning, removed at most 10% of foliage, to keep a lot of green to ensure it can grow strong next year as well. But, Iβm dead scared itβs going to suddenly die due to all the warnings Iβve heard.
Iβd love to hear what experiences other who have collected wild common juniper have had. And Iβm particularly interested to hear whatβs worked for others and what hasnβt. Any tips and tricks are also greatly appreciated!

Hello! Does anyone know how I can get some juniperus communis for edible juniper berries used in flavoring gin? I have looked at every nursery I can find and no one knows if their plants have edible berries, or if they've been treated with dangerous pesticides. If anyone grows their own juniper berries or knows where to get some of these plants any information would be helpful!
Hi all, I'm in Australia and finding it very difficult to source Juniperus alpinus or communis here so I was planning to use dried berries as a substitute in my first Kveik ale. Does anyone else have experience in using dried berries and can you recommend proportions per litre? Cheers
Hi!
My dog Truffle (10 months old) recently got flaky skin. First it was only on her groin, but now she got it on the rest of the body too - basically it looks like dandruff.
I took Truffle to the dermatologist and she told me its nothing serious and to wash her with an oat shampoo. She recommended me one but it has SLS and I'm not sure about using it - is it not that good for hair and skin as it is with humans? I also found few different ones, but I don't think I know enough about dog hair and skin to pick the best one.
I figured itd be best to ask professionals, I hope it's not a bad place to ask this question. Could you please help me choose one that won't make her condition worse and hopefully help soothe it?
I'll post the ingredients as I'm from Poland so there's a very small choice of oat dog shampoos and I don't have access to most imported ones.

... keep reading on reddit β‘For all of you who lives in the habitable range of Juniperus communis you probably know what I'm talking about. The cut up wood of this tree/shrub smells amazing and I were wondering if it would be possible to put a piece of wood (without the bark and stuff ofc) in the mead to give it some of that taste? Or should I just add juniper berries instead?
Hi all! (I apologize if this post is not allowed)
Yes, I am getting a gin tattoo. I love gin, and I love botany! I've always wanted one of those big floral pieces but I wanted to do something different, and I think a botanical tattoo that shows all the beautiful flowers that go into making cocktails would be fun! So far, I have the basics, Juniperus communis (Juniper) Cinchona pubescens (quinine), citrus x aurantiifolia (lime), and I initially just had a violent for creme de violet but I think I want something else instead.
With that being said, what ingredients do love in a gin cocktail?! Are any of their flowers beautiful and colorful? Thank you all in advanced!
Hey Planeswalkers!
I wanted to start off this year with a pretty interesting deck, one certainly worth noting is 4C Enigmatic Incarnation. A bit of a back drop was this hit Top 10 with Juniperus communis, and then was refined by a few players the one I liked as well is mainstream bo1 is by Michael Landry. I then took some shots at updating/adjusting sideboard to modernize it for todays meta. You can find the deck and my thoughts below! Happy New Year!
I played this deck without much success back in Oct/Nov. It does run around a 50-55% win rate at the moment. However, I wanted to revisit it and found it to play much different this time around. Additionally, there have been a few key tweaks, and some more I think you could throw in to make it a very very interesting deck. It is definitely already interesting :P
What I like is it plays like a doom deck slightly, but pivots into maximizing your board to making it even better with creatures that will either help control the match or clinch it. I think the biggest take away I found was that my opponents had absolutely no clue how to play against it. This was even at the highest levels of play right after the reset. It takes a bit to pilot but you can get the hang pretty fast for sure.
Anyway enjoy, happy to talk more about it, and happy new year!

... keep reading on reddit β‘Background: I am actually a big fan of the peel off mask. It makes my pores smaller and skin softer. Other than that it doesn't do much else. But i still love it. The price? I hate. I hate the price. And with how April skins site works, you can't just buy one product without having to pay a lot for shipping. And they trap you into saving money if you buy more than one product with bundle deals (tbh i loved this bundle deal when I was actually using April skin and I did in fact love their entire calendula line) or promises for free shipping if you spent enough. Which is the same for every site, but for someone like me who only came to love the calendula mask after almost a year, it was a bit difficult to drop the cash to buy another tube.
So I feel like for the longest time a lot of us have been tempted by those Facebook or Insta ads from, primarily, medicube and April skin. I was in particular when I first started. They, along with other brands such as glow recipe, peach & lily, and a few others, as well as stores such as soko glam, have been known to be sort of "beginner k beauty" as there's nothing really special about them, yet they have the audacity to charge $30-$40 per non special product. Some brands have been trying to put an end to this, my current favorite being Missha.
I got an email via the Missha newsletter and saw they too had released a calendula line. I thought to myself, there's no way. Theres no way they'd have a peel off mask too. Well, click on the link to not only see they have the entire line (minus those toner filled pads) but that EVERYTHING is half the price of April Skins line, but they also have the famous calendula peel off mask that im sure populates your insta feed.
I actually posted about it here and got asked to compare it, but was broke at the time. Unfortunately, like most other sites missha says they'll include free shipping if you spend a certain amount. I didn't have the cash at the time to spend that amount. Thankfully a while back they had a free shipping day, so I bought that and another clay mask I was looking at.
Well I used it today and have a first impressions review.
First off the April Skin Peel Off Mask:
This one claims that the floating pieces of flower are a feature rather than a gimmick. Nope. They are just a gimmick. And tbh they run out after a few uses if you don't tilt the bottle upside down a few times before use. Theres literally no purpose to them. It also claims to unclog pores and p

Post COVID, itβs less of lipstick and more of eye and brow makeup everyday , which is why I have been desperately looking for affordable brow products with really good hold, tint and longevity.
So the trend of soap brows attracted me a lot, it just gives you that fluffy , natural, fresh out of shower look, and there are absolutely no good brow gels available in India, unless you get them imported.
This product definitely copies the soap brows principle, (which you can literally do with a basic soap), but looking at the ingredients:
Coconut oil (Cocos nucifera), Castor oil (Ricinus communis), Sodium myristate (Coco derived), Sorbitol (Fruit derived), Saponified pure natural glycerine (Vegetable derived), Propylene glycol, Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia Miller), Fenugreek essential oil (Trigonella foenum-graecum), Cedarwood essential oil (Juniperus virginiana)
It is literally Just fancy oils added to basic soap and at the price of 900 rupees, not even tinted!
It is just so similar to soap brows by West Barn Co , even the container plus spoolie packaging looks similar.

I just wish Indian makeup and skincare brands were more original and innovative, and that the natural organic makeup brands were more affordable and strived at creating better formulas. :(
Please let me know your favourite affordable Brow products. Also, in case you are interested in the above product and it does prove to be a magical formula for brows somehow, do comment here so that I can reconsider what I feel about the product right now and thatβs : Not Worth It.
Cuz Any natural mild soap with good ingredients , pears, dove , etc, would do an amazing (if not better) job. π€·π»ββοΈ

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.
So far nobody has given me a straight answer
Well, toucan play at that game.
I decided to try a Propolis product and wanted to compare the ingredients. I wanted to try to avoid essential oils, specifically citrus oils. Thought I'd share this here in case anyone else wanted to see the info compiled. For me, I decided to start with trying Cosrx because of the simplicity of ingredients.
