A list of puns related to "Freshwater prawn farming"
Prawn shop: Growing freshwater shrimp has become a way of life for Ohio man
LANCASTER, Ohio β On a 40-acre patch of Fairfield County, surrounded by rolling fields of soybeans and corn, Don Maloney is about to harvest a crop thatβs unusual in these parts.
In three ponds out behind a big white barn, more than 40,000 freshwater prawns, or shrimp, have fattened up all summer in the warm, dark water.
Maloney pulled a few prawns out of one pond with aΒ fishingΒ net. The translucent brown creature in his hand was one of the smaller ones, he said.
βThis is what you put in a salad.β
Maloneyβs harvest of a couple of thousand pounds β the prawns run between 16 to 33 per pound β doesnβt sound like much, but heβs the biggest prawn producer in the state.

This is pretty cool. If you can have ponds dug on your land, maybe farm some shrimp.
Locally produced shrimp in an inland rural county sounds incredible.
So Iβve been looking into aquaponics/biofloc systems and shrimp farming recently. When it comes to large scale shrimp farms. Sustainability looks like it goes out the window. Shrimp farms overseas typically produce a ton of carbon, and the water they breed/live in is usually filled with their own waste producing an inadequate product (quantity over quality) Not to mention the destruction of mangroves to produce said inadequate product. So whatβs the solution? There should be a large biofloc system for shrimp farming, so we can have a carbon neutral way of raising shrimp. Iβve already seen news stories on this being accomplished on a smaller scale with biofloc technology. But I really think we are on the cusp of cutting out the non-sustainable shrimp farming practices going on abroad.
hello everyone.
dose anyone no where i can buy live freshwater prawn in Canada? if anyone knows where i can buy them or someone how ships to canada plz let me no ty
Hey everyone,
Looking to introduce some shrimp into our bio-filtration system. The only species I've come across are the infamous Gammarus shrimp. I'm trying to locate some on Canada, but until then I'm curious if anyone has experimented with any other shrimp species. What were you experiences? Anything you would warn about with adding shrimp in general? I have heard they can be territorial but only under certain stresses.
Visiting a friend and I have seafood related plots. Where do you get your live shellfish?
