A list of puns related to "Finnish bread"
Hey everybody:) my coworker grew up by Finland, and was telling us how much she missed authentic Finnish bread. She says it’s unavailable to buy here in Ireland; it’s her birthday on the 23rd and we wanted to surprise her with a homemade, as authentic as possible Finnish bread. She told us that she particularly likes cardamon bread, but it’s impossible to buy pre-crushed cardamom here to make it. Has anybody got any authentic Finnish recipes recipes for me to make some bread for her? She can’t fly home for Christmas so I would love to surprise her with something that’s as close to bread that could be found in a Finnish bakery.
I’m trying to find “bread cheese”, called Juustoleipä or Leipäjuusto (cheese made from reindeer or goat milk, baked and eaten like bread, but not actually bread) for sale somewhere, so far i’ve come up with nothing. Anyone heard of it/know if there’s anywhere in Vancouver or elsewhere in the lower mainland that might sell it?
My mom has been trying to find a recipe that her grandma made when she was a kid.. it was a crunchy cardamom bread that was sliced thin and eaten like a breakfast biscuit. Apparently it was a 2"x4" oblong oval (bread-shaped my mom says haha).
She says that her grandma called it something like "Korpsu" (pronounced corpse-ooo) and she's almost positive it was from Finland. I can't seem to find anything by that name on the internet, so any help would be great!
I like a lot a Finnish rye bread that is sold in some stores in Sweden. It is sold in a paper bag, I think the baker is called Sinuhe.
Is this type of bread hard to do yourself? Any pointers to a good recipe?
Hey all - this may not be the best place to post about this but wanted to give it a shot. My family has been making pulla for Christmas and Easter every year since my grandmother was little (my great grandmother was from Finland). However, my great grandmother's recipe changes the almond topping out for hot black coffee and sugar poured over top and allowed to soak in.
When I was really little I hated that bits of the bread were soggy, but now I love the way the crust soaks up the coffee and sugar. No Finn I've ever talked to has the same tradition, and I'm wondering if this is a weird family-specific mutation of dipping pulla in coffee?
Anyone else hear of this?
