A list of puns related to "Coblation tonsillectomy"
I'm probably going to have to get a tonsillectomy at 25 for chronic tonsil stones and I'm honestly dreading it. I'm so terrified of 2+ weeks of excruciating pain that I can't think straight. Apparently it's one of the most painful and lengthy recoveries of all surgeries, worse than childbirth or kidney stones, and that's assuming that you don't start bleeding.
I recently learned about a new method of tonsillectomy called coblation tonsillectomy, and apparently it's far less painful, and the recovery time is only around 4 days instead of 2 weeks. However, I've also read that this isn't the case, that not only is it just as painful, but you have a higher risk of post operative bleeding than a normal procedure.
Has anyone had a coblation tonsillectomy? Can you offer me any advice as to whether it's any better? I don't think they offer it in my state so I would probably have to go out of state for it, but I'm more than willing to do that if it means I don't have to suffer as much. I'm honestly considering not getting the surgery and accepting that I will always have bad breath from tonsil stones for the rest of my life. I don't think I could handle one week of recovery let alone two if it's nearly as bad as people say it is. I'm already pretty depressed, I worry that I would kill myself 5 days in to end the torture.
Hey All, I really need some help.
I have had bad, BAD, tonsil stones for years now. I go through the routines of cleaning them out myself, salt water gargle, etc. because I cannot afford health insurance(Poor College kid). Recently, the pain has surged from them and its becoming to much to bear (My wisdom teeth are also coming in). I took a flashlight, and I must of counted ~15 Craters between both of my tonsils.
Has anyone ever tried a Coblation Assisted Tonsillectomy? I did some reading and it sounds like a much faster, and ideally cheaper procedure because it only requires a local anesthetic.
Only one problem. I can't find any doctors that do it. I have no idea if it's cheaper or not, and I really need some help figuring this out.
Anyone know?
Thank you guys.
11 days after my surgery and my scabs have almost completely disappeared, I have minimal discomfort, and I've basically gone back to normal having been out for a few drinks over the weekend.
The only thing I'm still avoiding is physical activity - I won't start exercising or partying hard until it's been a full two weeks.
Overall, it seems like my recovery has been smoother than most - no debilitating pain, no sickness or fever, and no bleeds.
I don't think my pain tolerance is unusually high so it could just be because I had a coblation tonsillectomy. It could also be down to staying hydrated, starting a normal diet before the anaesthesia wore off, taking painkillers every three hours without fail, and having a humidifier in my room.
There is still a risk of bleeding over the next couple of weeks. If anything happens at all, or if I don't stop getting sick, I'll come back with an update - if not consider my tonsillectomy a success β
Best of luck to anyone else recovering - and to anyone scared of the recovery, bear in mind that not everyone has such a bad time. I was dreading this surgery but it hasn't been nearly as bad as the doctors said.
Context
Had my tonsils taken out in the UK, using the coblation method, on 14/01/2021. It was an uneventful operation and I was able to go home on the same evening.
Pain
For the first week I cycled paracetamol and ibuprofen every 3 hours including throughout the night, basically just napping between doses when I felt like it. I was prescribed dihydrocodeine but didn't need it.
My pain never really went above 4/10, and that was when I yawned or swallowed. Except for a bit of ear pain between days 4-7, I didn't experience much more than mild discomfort.
Eating/drinking/smoking
In the UK they advise a normal diet immediately after surgery, including crunchy/scratchy foods like toast and cereal which apparently help keep the scabs clean. I was able to do this without issue - eating was a bit painful between day 3-6 but definitely bearable.
I drank loads of water, slept with a humidifier, and never let my throat get dry. Apparently chewing sugarfree gum helps with this (and it also helps with the funky taste you get in your mouth during the first few days).
I didn't stop smoking, but I did cut down to 2/3 cigs for the first few days after the op. I brushed my teeth and used mouthwash/saltwater after every smoke.
Don't see this as a green flag to smoke. I am a dumbass and an addict who cou
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello! Iβve just reached the end of day 8 and thought Iβd do a post outlining how my recoveryβs been so far. I should note that I had a coblation tonsillectomy, which I know is not common practice in a lot of other countries so my experience may differ to yours!
Day 0 Woke up from surgery with no pain, no nausea just extremely tired. Went home and slept for the afternoon and night.
Days 1-4 Honestly, these were the easiest days for me. I was eating basically solid foods from pasta to sausages to toast and bread. The worst pain was in the mornings and when my meds began to wear off, but after taking some voltaren I felt fine.
Day 5-6 Not fun at all, very painful nights and bad ear pain. But the pain was never insufferable. I could still manage some food, and the earaches were easily treated with a heat pack. The nights were definitely the worst, I forced myself to wake up every 2-3 hours to drink water and take medication if necessary, which helped but this was when I was in the worst pain.
Day 7 Woke up feeling a lot more positive and in a lot less pain. Still some ear pain and a bit of burning pain when swallowing but a lot better than before.
Day 8 This morning I woke up feeling even better! Still painful in the mornings when swallowing and a bit of ear pain but really not bad when I take my meds! I ate mee goreng, a sandwich, Toast and pancakes today with little to no pain.
My best advice would be to stay hydrated. Iβve been drinking up to or more than 3litres of water a day which has really helped with the pain and keeping the scabs moisturised. Also eating solid foods early on seemed to help me, but I know this doesnβt go for everyone so just listen to your surgeons advice.
It will get better! Stay positive everyone and feel free to comment or message me with any questions :)

I had a tonsillectomy 25 days ago, my surgeon used the coblation technique and gave me about 10 stitches. I'm still having discomfort swallowing and yawning and pain sometimes. I can see some stitches kind of look like they're coming loose but it's been like that for over a week with no change. Is it normal to take this long? Thank you
Hello all! I had my surgery at 2pm on Wednesday the 15th (New Zealand time) so currently on day 3 of recovery (Saturday 18th)
So far Iβve had little to no pain at all aside from in the mornings. Im anticipating it to get worse but right now itβs very much tolerable. Iβve eaten toast, meatballs, pasta, lots of popsicles, chocolate, scrambled eggs and fruit purees with basically no issues! I think whatβs helped the most is staying hydrated (I have a 1.25 litre water bottle that I keep with me at all times and aim to drink at least two a day) and also setting alarms overnight to wake up and drink water/take pain medication. It hurts the most to swallow when I wake up before any medication, Iβd say the pain is about a 5/10 for swallowing but other than that I have 0/10 resting pain.
The only pain medication Iβve been taking so far is 1000mg of paractemol every 8 hours and 50mg of voltaren every 8 hours
I also should note that I had a coblation tonsillectomy which apparently causes less post op pain.
Iβll keep u all updated, but what are the general tips for the next few days when the scabs start to come off?
So, I have been seeing a lot of posts about post op stitches so wanted to know did your doctor use any other painful surgical procedure for the tonsillectomy cause they used the Coblation procedure on me. I an 7 days post op and itβs very painful, but not as described by most of you here.
I had tonsillectomy last May 14 (Friday) and Iβm now on Day 4 post-surgery. Iβll be sharing some info and my personal experience in the hopes of helping others who will or thinking of undergoing the surgery too. (27F Asian, btw)
Why I underwent a tonsillectomy:
Iβve been getting frequent tonsillitis since forever! This year alone, I already had 4 episodes of tonsillitis. Previously I also had septoplasty and sinus surgery due to allergic rhinitis so yeah, my upper respiratory track is quite problematic lol! Side note: I highly recommend sinus surgery for those with chronic sinusitis, definitely improved my quality of life. Anyway back to the throat, itβs been too much of a hassle, with the pandemic and all. Youβre never quite sure if itβs just tonsillitis or itβs Covid already so I finally decided to have mine taken off.
After the surgery:
Yeah it stings to talk. Post-surgery I was able to talk to the nurses with a very deep and garbled voice but as soon as I went back to my room, I resorted to using my phone to communicate. Thankfully I did not encounter any post-op bleeding and was already discharged from the hospital on Sunday, May 16.
Food
Iβm not quite sure if the cold drinks and ice cream were quite helpful or they just made the pain seem worse? Anyway I have resorted to taking normal temp water and food. Speaking of food, I know itβs really really painful to swallow but bear in mind that proper nutrition is vital for wound healing. Also, you gotta have food in your tummy since youβre taking antibiotics. I still try to keep a balanced diet, despite the pain when swallowing. What I eat are mostly soup, porridge, pasta, udon, Vienna sausage, hotdog, chicken (thigh and leg parts only), jellos (gosh these feel so smooth on the throat and they glide so well). Room temp only, no hot food yet. I still eat ice cream but not with the same frequency as I did in the hospital. Other people mention yoghurt but I canβt take it for now, maybe because itβs acidic so it stings, same with Yakult because you know, Iβm Asian. Iβm now taking protein shake, mainly because protein is important for healing, which I couldnβt do immediately post-op because red, pink, or dark colored food might be mistaken for blood in case you spit out.
Spit, Voice Changes, Ear Pains
Speaking of spit, it feels like my mouth is hypersalivating like a mad dog! Make sure you have a kidney dish or any container where you can spit out your saliva because swallowing every so

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

How the hell am I suppose to know when itβs raining in Sweden?
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?

Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
