A list of puns related to "Circular segment"
Hi! I have been trying really hard to find a formula to calculate the area of a circular segment if I know the radius of the circle and also know the centroid. Does anyone know how to calculate this?
Hello,
I am trying to derive an equation for the average height of an arc along its chord. I would like a function of h with respect to distance along the x axis. The segment is defined with the variables arc length-s chord length-a radius R and angle-theta.
I want to be able integrate the curve with respect to x so i can find the area and subsequently the average height of the curve for varying bounds of x. My problem is that when i develop a cartesian equation in the form x^2+(y+a)^2=r^2 I end up with a y^2 and a y term that I do not know how to get into the from y=f(x) so i can integrate.
Is there an easier way to do what I am wanting to do? I am rusty with calculus so the solution isn't obvious for me.
Here is a diagram to help explain what i want to do. https://i.imgur.com/8z04QRn.jpg H represents the height of the curve above the axis, L is the maximum range of the curve and r is the radius of the circle.
Thanks,

The last two stations (C13 ι§δΊθ¬θ and C14 εηͺζ) extends the Circular Line LRT to Xiziwan, and marks the completion of phase one (the western waterfront portion) . Since it used old cargo train rights-of-way, it was considered the easier portion of the line, but still ran into numerous issues, including the massive gas explosion of 2014, and the bankruptcy of its original contractor.
The circular line will end its free trial period starting November, but the fare will receive a 50% discount for the first two month. We shall see how law abiding Taiwanese citizens truly are when that happens.
Construction of phase 2 (another 23 stations completing the loop) had already begun, and slated for completion sometime around 2019.
I Need: Area of the circular segment (A) (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_segment)
I Have: Arch length (s) and the width between corners (c).
My gut tells me that's all the values I need, but I can't seem to put together the equation. More of a design project than homework, but I think you math-minded folks will mash my mathematical mania with marvelous malleability.
Thanks!
I'm trying to do this problem for my sohpomore geometry class, I usually love hard problems, but this one has stumped me. Any hints or tips? (I'm trying to find the area of the triangle with a curved side in the top left.)
Thanks Redditors!

I know hexagons βfitβ well when they fold, but is there another advantage to having them vs just having circular mirrors laid out in the same honeycomb pattern?
My assumptions which could totally be wrong:
I read through the Wikipedia for segmented mirrors and it didnβt touch on the shape.

Fleet-Cardinal Krenn watched from the bridge of his flagship as the planet below burned, and he was pleased. The cities of the Unworthy made for the perfect inaugural pyre for the renewal of the Holy Endeavor. They would continue to serve Kra as they had before the Mortification.
He shook his head in thought as he remembered those days. He had been a child when their Endeavor had first begun.
Initially, the Chosen's Holy Endeavor had met with success. Over a period of twenty years, a dozen unclean worlds had been discovered and cleansed, ready for the servants of Kra to purify. Three species of his Unworthy Children had even been fully extinguished! A triumph!
Kra had been pleased by his Chosen Children's attempts to aid his Great Servants, and rewarded them greatly. As their Endeavor progressed, His Great Servants had purified five unclean worlds very close to the Home Systems, each a blank slate, ready to be remade in the image of Kra's greatest work, Krathig-yar.
New homes and resources for the Chosen.
Then, disaster had struck. A large group of Unworthy species had been encountered, that worked together. They began coordinating their forces with others to oppose righteous cleansing. But the true depth of their depravity was revealed when they began employing unholy synthetic life against the Chosen; Thou Shalt Not Create Life, For That Is The Domain Of Kra.
The Chosen had despaired, as their fleets had been destroyed, corrupted by the Unworthy's unholy familiars, and been pushed back to the Home Systems.
It had taken what became known as The Mortification to stop them, so named because it was both a humiliation and a penance. Humiliated by their defeats at the hands of the Unworthy, The Chosen had thrown themselves at their enemy in the millions, using ramshackle, quickly built ships with as little automation as possible to prevent corruption.
It had required the sacrifice of twenty percent of their population to stop the Unworthy, but they had done it. He remembered, as a young priest-captain, watching from the bridge of his ship as their enemy finally withdrew.
The massive funeral pyres on the surface of Krathig-yar after.
Two decades of salvaging and rebuilding their fleet.
But this time, they would not fail. The Mortification had purged the weakness from the Cho

If you have not heard about the mysterious alleged underground pyramid in Alaska that was recently brought up by Tom Delonge in an interview I highly highly recommend checking out the following resources before continuing!
Basically there is a rumor that an underground pyramid exists somewhere 50 miles northwest of Mt. McKinley. According to Tom Delonge this pyramid is some how suppressing our consciousness and has been studied by the military for decades.
Alaska has been a known UFO hotspot, and there is an area known as the Alaska Triangle where many UFO's have been seen, among other High Strangeness.
Linda Moulton Howe supposedly got the exact coordinates to the location you can check out for yourself: 63.2976110, -152.5234691 (within the Alaska Triangle region as well)
The coordinates are quite unremarkable. Looks like nothing is there at all. No roads or any other signs of human activity. (Just last year a man went looking for the Pyramid and went missing around the Lake Carey area based on her coordinates, he had a satellite phone and everything, spooky!!)
EDIT: Now i'm back to believing that the original coordinates are in fact correct. Please feel free to skip down to Edit 4 below. u/grundle_Salad **used an Magnetic Anomaly overlay map on Google Earth and you can see the faint outline of a masssssive pyramid right at the coordinates given to LMH. while my coordinates are interesting, i do not
Yes, this is the third part of my actual, not-celeste hidden gems trilogy. I thought the second would be the last part but people asked me for more recs. First thread was almost a year ago, second thread was five months ago. I frequently try out new games so my list keeps evolving.
You know the deal: I enjoy making these posts because I enjoy playing games, and people keep asking for game recommendations all the time, especially Indie titles because there's so many and the sheer mass of them just keeps growing.
What also grows is the piles on top of piles of random ass shovelware games. So here's just my two cents to filter out the noise.
I won't waste your time, I know you enjoy playing games as well. Like I said: no Celeste on this list, definitely not Ori, not Bug Fables or Spiritfarer, or Skul: Hero Slayer here. You already know those, yes they're very good, let's move on.
So, on the first thread I recommended:
Akane
Lucah: Born of a Dream
Thumper
Subsurface Circular
20XX
Second thread:
CrossCode
Mutazione
Splasher
Sayonara Wild Hearts
Wandersong
Sakuna of Rice and Ruin
I can easily still recommend all these games, incredible titles. I have to say though that I may have overhyped Mutazione a bit. Just a bit, probably cause I wrote that right after finishing it. It's very good and worth playing, but I compared it to Night in the Woods... yeah, no. That's my only criticism to my past self, the rest of the titles all hold up and are very fun to play.
So here we go:
Honorable mention: My Friend Pedro -- it's very good. seriously very good. I don't have a very good guess as to if you know this game exists, hopefully, so it's here as an honorable mention just in case you don't. Go play it.
Paradise Killer -- a fascinating game. A Switch console exclusive (EDIT: I mean exclusive to consoles, came to PC too) that has a minuscule loud fanbase. It's like Phoenix Wright with vaporwave aesthetics, jazzy ass soundtrack, set in a walking simulator world with 3D collectathon mechanics and objectives.
Walk, listen to jazz, explore, find things, talk to people, collect evidence
So, the Phoenix Wright part. You are Lady Love Dies, an absolute babe and a defense attorney. You gott

The ones that come to my mind are:
- A Short Hike
- Kamiko
- Florence
Do you know more of them?
EDIT: WOW! Thank you all very much for the suggestions. I decided to include all of them in a list here in the OP post.
The playtime reported is from the "Main Story" of howlongtobeat.com. Only switch games that have a playtime of up to 5h are included in the list. I also credit the first user to suggest the game in this thread. I will update this post until I have included all the answers. After that, I may divide the games in segments depending on the playtime (<1h, <2h, <3h, <4h, <5h). I feel like a "Honorable Mentions" list is a given considering that many of you suggested amazing games that are too long for the arbitrary rules of this list. A note: this list does not reflect my opinion, it's just a summary of the answers given below.
The cracked screen fizzles in the darkness.
Itβs the only thing still working in my immediate vicinity. Itβs littered with dead pixels, and a faded magenta bar strikes down a segment of the screenβs left half, but the visuals and the sound are still quite clear.
βWelcome to Mr Sunnyβs FUN-HOUSE RETREAT!β warbles a cartoonish voice, and a soundbite of cheering children rumbles out from the speakers along after it.
Sparks burst from a distended cable to my left. It hangs from the ceiling, with exposed and dangerous wires.
The screen shows me the POV of a camera, one held at the height of a child. The viewer is taken on a compressed, fade-cut tour of the Fun House Retreat.
Itβs an amusement park. The sun is shining and all around are smiling children and happy families, eating ice-cream and running from ride to ride. Colorful arches stand tall overhead, and friendly faces sell popcorn and stuffed animals from path-side carts and stands. A rollercoaster whooshes by overhead to the sound of thrilled screams and cheers, and the camera pans across the food gallery: inviting-looking restaurants and milkshake bars.
Mr Sunny himself appears on-screen. It glitches for a moment as he does so.
Mr Sunny is a costumed character. He has an orange, humanoid body and a large, soft yellow head. It looks like a grinning sun.
The expression is fixed, of course. His mouth does not move as he speaks.
The grin is stretched just a little too wide.
The eyes are staring, and dead.
It is impossible to tell who is wearing the costume. There is no exposed skin.
The voice is masculine.
βWhere the sun ALWAYS shines!β he boasts, putting one hand on his hip and throwing the other out in a comical wave, high-fiving a young boy who scampers past him.
βCollect an autograph from ME for a FREE Mr Sunny stuffed buddy! Have ya seen me yet today? Be sure to keep an eye out and come say HI if you do!β
He chuckles.
The camera spins round in a circle, showcasing the best that the park has to offer as another rollercoaster flies round in a spiral in the near-distance.
The camera completes its spin and Mr Sunny is closer.
βUnless of course I SEE YOU FIRST!β
He laughs.
The screen glitches again. It shows us more of the park. More well-tendered trees and clean pavements. Posters adorned with grinning characters and immersive, interactive games and stands.
The camera shows us the Retreatβs water-park. Large sprinklers send out blasts of raining water, and children s

There was soft blanketing darkness at first. Gentle and drifting. A sensation that stretched out to eternity that seemed to embody the concept of rest itself. Then thereβs a sensation of awkwardness, things just arenβt fitting together and he canβt open his eyes.
He lets out a moan as apparently heβs exhausted beyond belief and then jerks as his voice comes out trilling and unfamiliar. Heβs in a tight corridor and he can only hear some kind of scratching at a distance. Then as he shakes his head things jolt in the strangest way as he can sense... something nearby. Tingling and warping from some... things... attached to his head. He slams to the side as hard as he can and whatever heβs in tilts, then rocks back and he grasps that heβs in some kind of cage so he checks the other side and it tilts hard before then falling over.
Something shift and with a clunk the world opens forward and he moves his hand up to rub at his eyes. Then he flinches back at the feeling of the coarse, brutal claws. He uses the back of them to clear the gunk away and his eyes snap open to behold two three clawed hands. His wrists are covered in puffs of fur that trails down as he looks down to behold a body covered in the pale white fur.
βWhatβs going on?!β He demands as he pushes against the wall and everything shifts until it flops to the side with him facing up. He now has room to sit up and rises as best he can. His muscles are weak and atrophied. His sense of touch is going utterly insane and everything is unfamiliar. Thereβs the sound of roaring and the crashing of steel against steel in brutal harassing clunks.
He once again looks upon his hands, three brutal black claws, segmented like armour and coming to sharp points. Heβs been reduced to two fingers and a thumb and all three end in a spear. He clenches and unclenches them a few times. Thereβs little feedback. Whateverβs happened he has almost no sense of touch through his hands. The absence gnaws at him.
His feet are much the same, except they open far wider by default. Two curved claws gripping the floor of stone and a third behind to offer balance. Whatever he is, heβs some kind of brutal predator.
Thereβs another crash, much closer this time and itβs coupled with a garbled amount of speech, some of it he recognizes as galactic standard, the rest is foreign. What he does recognize is a mix of threats and foul implications.
βDetails later. Survival now.β He mutters to himself as he pulls

But lately I've been unable to think of anything but The Great Ace Attorney any time I am even tangentially reminded of this fandom, and this is an opinion I will die on this hill for: GAA1-1 is overall weaker than 1-4.
First things first, the Chronicles are the best Ace Attorney games in the entire franchise BY FAR. Holy moly, I love these games with my whole being. Everything is woven together in the perfect way, even if the first game's initial release started off on a rough patch, but it was all planned to make GAA2 an absolute masterpiece. This is most definitely Shu Takumi's magnum opus and what he will be remembered by the most going forward in this franchise's history.
That said, nothing in this world is objectively perfect. Even I have a few gripes with one or two cases out of this ten, but they're all minor nitpicks. Like, if I were to rank them against each other, there would not be very much of a gap between each entry. That's how good all these cases are. Now, my dear fellows, let us begin.
-
If we were to examine the story progression across the two games, there are some pretty clear dips in the rising action throughout the first GAA, with some notable spikes upward. However, the greatest climax doesn't come until the second game, which goes to show just how long the last few episodes of GAA2 were built up. But set that aside, we're comparing 1-1 and 1-4.
Why would 1-1 be weaker than 1-4? It has a beautifully elegant introduction to the legal system of Japan, a firm establishment of several of the most important characters across these two games, and an amazing villain to kick off the two games' biggest mysteries. Meanwhile, 1-4 is largely forgettable, with incredibly low stakes even out of any Ace Attorney game, an assault victim who you don't even get to meet yet, and the actual truth of the case is just a marital dispute with an incredibly disappointing "villain".
But oh, I raise you a counter: 1-4 was saved by two titans of comedy and wit: Herlock Sholmes and Soseki Natsume. Also, this case just has such an important role in the overall story compared to 1-1 that it really isn't something that can be replaced by another filler case, like some can be in previous AA titles.
I brought up the point about rising action above precisely because 1-4 is a victim of context, placed between two relative peaks in the plot, so it naturally feels like a deep valley in com

Lines of freighters entering from the three rift gates were redirected away from the designated space for the Mariposa into the other three spheres. A Twain News Network ship was stationed beside her, continuously filming her for the Clowder news feed. Barasha stood on the outer deck, suited up in void gear.
"Barasha in the field here in the fourth cycle of the Mariposa feeding." The four legged Grazer walked to the edge of her ship, pointing at the massive ship. "Note the gentle nature of her tendrils."
In the distance, backlit from the multitude of lights from the Twain, the Mariposa slowly snaked a long segmented coil around a derelict freighter. She pulled it toward her mouthlike cargo hold where a mass of spindly arms pulled it inside.
"As you can see her mouth is developing well. She has grown capable of taking in and processing these retired ships, supplied from the Margot trading corporation." Barasha looked over at the Gollock cluster holding the camera and lighting gear. "We here at the Twain would like to thank our friends over at Margot prime and their continual supply runs of crystal for our AI residents. Barasha smiled, widening her vertical mouth. "We have had requests from across the connected worlds for more detailed information on this new engineered life form in our midst. Next to Barasha, in the vacuum of space, a yellow hologram appeared. It showed him from the torso up, his three hands and three eyed head clearly visible.

She nodded. "You are welcomed. I would like to dive into what you know about this ship behind us. Can you tell us what it

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

How Apple invades employees privacy and gambles with their mental health.
TLDR: Apple has created a hostile environment for their employees mental health and well being through a slew of policies designed to invade your privacy and allow customers free reign to be abusive. If and when you seek to get yourself help, they will find anyway to get rid of the βproblemβ.

Preface: I donβt make posts like this but after seeing one of Appleβs employees has taken their own life as a result of their increasingly hostile policies, I feel I should share my experience. I am coming forward with my analysis and evidence of how Appleβs leadership mistreats employee mental health issues and promotes psychological abuse from Appleβs customer base.
The irony of my separation from Apple is that I was let go during their βMental Health Awareness Monthβ because my Senior Area Manager (SAM from here out) didnβt believe that I was having anxiety driven panic attacks and triggering PTSD episodes- for which I had documented medical accommodation THROUGH Apple Employee Relations. I have had these accommodations in place for a number of years without issue when, this last July, he accused me of βtime theftβ without a shred of evidence (I have asked for evidence and none could be provided to me). There are no documented policy violations on my part that lead to this termination. This accusation came shortly after I voiced my opinion to leadership on a number of Apple policies and procedures that seemed abusive and not at all conducive to a positive work environment which I will lay out below. For this reason I believe Employee Relations sided with my SAM and agreed to let βthe problemβ go.
I started at Apple seven years ago. Three years into the mandatory overtime and being promoted to a Mac+ T2 Senior Advisor (the mac+ means we are trained in almost every product, we received no additional compensation and substantially larger workload) my partner, friends and family had noticed a significant change in my behavior.
Here are the major outliers that are responsible for the deterioration o
