A list of puns related to "Bluegrass music"
I have so many great family wedding memories, and while they often very tacky, I enjoyed them thoroughly and wish no shame upon the happy couple.
This cousin's wedding, though, was beyond. My parents arrived a day early to "help" my aunt and uncle with the wedding only to discover "help" meant "this won't happen without you, nothing is organized, good luck." So my mom called me to come down a little early to lend a hand.
So I arrive, park my car, and start walking to the venue, and all of a sudden, my aunt comes screaming by me in her minivan. She sees me, stops dead in the center of the road, and starts backing up to catch me. This is a small town, but it's a busy road. I dart forward to the car and she rolls down the window, leans out, and without any warning, starts pinning a corsage on me. As she does this, she's also letting her foot off the brake, so the vehicle is still moving forward. I'm trying to keep up so she doesn't stab me in the eye with the pin, but I'm not doing a good enough job. "Would you STAND STILL?" she snapped at me. When I pointed out she was dragging me along the road by a corsage pin, she laughed but did not apologize, and squealed back off on two tires. I didn't see her again until the service.
I arrived at the venue to find my mother the crabbiest I'd ever seen her. They'd spent all day (just the two of them) setting up the hall for the reception, and then my dad accidentally locked the keys inside it. It was about an hour and change before the wedding service and they were calling around to find anyone who had a second set of keys. All the food still had to be heated (it was self catered. read: my mom made all of it except the nasty jello salads), and nobody knew WTF we were going to do if we couldn't get in there after the service. It was not my mother's finest hour as a spouse- if I'd played a drinking game with the phrase "what kind of idiot," I wouldn't have made it to the ceremony.
To be fair, even if they weren't being taken advantage of, it would have been hard for my parents to be enthusiastic about this wedding. Nobody was excited about the groom my cousin was marrying. He was quite clearly totally uninterested in the wedding, or frankly, the bride. She's a lovely person, but her poor self esteem led her to latch on to this loser, and it was super sad to see his total apathy. This was before widespread cell phones, and nobody had heard from him yet all day- we weren't entirely sure he was going to show.

... keep reading on reddit β‘The banjo was a primary instrument in American popular music from the very beginning of what could be called uniquely American popular music, that is to say the minstrel shows which began in the 1830s through to the first part of the jazz era, big bands, in the late 1920s and 1930s. Around this time the 4 string banjo began to be replaced by the archtop guitar in big bands, because they were louder, because 6 strings accommodated the increasingly complex harmony that was developing in jazz back then and because on a guitar you can strum out chords while also playing the melody or soloing on the first two strings. That said, the 4 string banjo was an iteration of the traditional 5 string banjo, and the 5 string banjo remained a part of mainstream music into the era of early rock and roll. Around that time though, the banjo basically disappeared from every genre of music aside from bluegrass, and later the film Deliverance permanently βruinedβ the banjo for many people by associating it with inbred redneck freaks. I play guitar and bass as well but banjo is the instrument that I consider my primary music maker and I love it with all of my heart, and I donβt play bluegrass at all; Iβve long wondered why the banjo is so unpopular. Why do you think?
I listen to lots of bluegrass and Mountain Music, Traditionally sung in Appalachian English. I should Like to share some of it, Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, and The Osborne Brothers are my favorites. I have noticed many strange pronunciation and phrases while listening to Bluegras, including the retention of shall vs will, the placing an a before the present progressive and sometimes pronouncing the -L in walking, talking, folk, etc.
I'm putting adding to my country music playlist, and I was just wondering if anyone had any song suggestions, specifically for Blues, Bluegrass, or Country Rock. Any suggestions from these genres are fine, but lesser known artists or lesser known songs by well-known artists would be preferred (trying to diversify my playlist and expand my musical horizons). Short lists of song recommendations would be preferred, but any number or amount of recommendations are fine.
Hello! Wondering if anyone knows of a place in the Chicagoland area to hear some live Bluegrass? Did some googling and while I found that there is supposedly a good sized bluegrass following in this area, I couldnβt really find any events coming up soon. Maybe itβs just that warm weather season is over? Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

please help!

DESPERATELY SEEKING BLUEGRASS FANS!!
I have a big research report on bluegrass music coming up and have to find out some information from bluegrass fans themselves, if any fans could respond back with some answers that would be great :))
Iβve been trying to track down some older bluegrass recordings and havenβt found much in my area. Figured Iβd give Eugene a shot since I happen to be traveling through there soon.
Used CDs are fine too. The stuff Iβm looking for was published (issued?) in the very early 2000s or late 90s.
Thank you!
