Last night my bfโs birthday plans fell apart. His family had to cancel on dinner due to an ice storm. Heโd been wanting to do karaoke with his friends, but waited until the same day to actually make plans, so only one person could come. Four of my friends accepted the invite as well. He seemed really down and I tried to cheer him up.
Something to note is that Iโve been sick since April. I just got diagnosed with a condition that entails fatigue, brain fog, pain, weakness, flu-like symptoms etc. The more I exert myself, the worse it gets. I was nearly bedbound for a while and still struggle. My bf was convinced this was psychosomatic until a doctor finally confirmed something was physically wrong. I feel like he still doesnโt believe me or respect that Iโm ill. He rarely acknowledges or checks in about my health unless I bring it up myself.
Yesterday I was feeling faint and lightheaded. I told my bf and to his credit, he asked if I wanted to stay in, but I insisted on celebrating his birthday. When people came he wanted to go to a bar that was 10 min away. I suggested calling ahead to make sure they had karaoke, but he didnโt. We walked there on black ice and everyone was sliding the whole way. At one point I fell and hurt myself.
When we got to the bar it turned out they didnโt have karaoke. He suggested we walk to a different bar 20 mins in the opposite direction, knowing everyone had just endangered themselves, and that itโs medically unadvisable for me to exert myself more than necessary.
When I brought this up he apologized but didnโt seem to get it. I apologized for complaining on his birthday. We tried to explain ourselves back and forth and it escalated into arguing, so I said maybe itโs best if I leave because I felt unwell and worried I was ruining his birthday. He started crying and said he wanted me to stay, so I did.
We stayed at the first bar because they set up karaoke just for us. My bf and I were getting along until I went up to sing with his friend. Iโm anxious and a terrible singer so itโs a big deal when I work up the nerve to do karaoke, and I was shocked when I looked over and saw my bf on his phone the entire time. I felt crushed. When I sat back down he complimented me and I said โyou didnโt even watch.โ He tried to deny it. The rest of the night I didnโt sing again and was mostly quiet. My bf could tell I was in a bad mood. I wish I could have faked it for his sake. At home we both apologized again but I said I felt at my witโs
... keep reading on reddit โกEach year, since my daughter's first birthday, my MIL decides to "take charge" and coordinate my daughter's birthday celebration around her Thanksgiving she hosts at her house and pairs it with my nephews birthday which is in December. I have asked her not to do this as I would like to organize the celebration and have at our home and invite other family members, including my grandmother and my side of family. My SIL kind of ads on to this and even gave my daughter her 1st birthday gift before we had a chance to give her our gift for her first birthday, knowing I didn't want to celebrate it that way. We had a difficult time having children and have two, and I feel like as a mom and parent this should be decided by me, but my MIL tries to take charge of this one the most as my husband's sister lives out of state now. I would love to not have the drama around this and the "forced" party by her each year. I love she is involved grandparent with my children but she does not respect each year that I have told her I would like I have this done at my house and a different way. This year she texted me again her plans, not asking but telling me again of the birthday party and I didn't text her back as she knows I don't like it but won't listen to me if I do. My husband frustrates me as well as he usually sides with his mother and tells me it shouldn't bother me. It takes the joy out of my daughter's birthday each year for me. I have done separate parties as well but it just seems wierd to have 2 or 3 parties for a child. Their home also isn't big enough to have my family included as we barely fit with just my family, inlaws and my husband's sister's family.. I would love anyone's feedback. Am I super crazy???

this is very light hearted, but i was thinking about having a party for my 17th birthday. iโve recently got a group of friends, a group big enough to have a party, but Iโve never thrown one before.
How do you throw a party and keep it entertaining for everyone? Maybe this is lame of me to ask, but itโs never something I thought iโd be able to do, and now that I can I donโt want to mess it up or embarrass myself

They usually do the birthday cake early in the morning, Iโm not a big fan of cake in general but specially in the morning I prefer salty food. No Iโm not on a diet, yes I will sing โhappy birthdayโ to you. More than 15 years working with the same people and I always have to answer the same questions. I also donโt need a piece to go with my morning coffee because I donโt drink it regularly.
