Alex the parrot, was a subject of a 30 year old experiment. Alex had an incredible use of language and believed to show the intelligence of a 5 year old, and the emotional level of a 2 year old by the time he died. It was also the first non-human to have ever asked a question!

This is Alex, an African Grey parrot believed to be the first animal ever to ask an existential question. He wanted to know what color he was. He was the subject of a 30 year animal psych experiment at Harvard University, and at 2 he was correctly answering questions made for 6 year-old humans.
