A list of puns related to "Adventure fiction"
I've recently read books like Into Thin Air (first-hand account about climbing Everest), Born to Run (ultra-marathon running), and On The Nose (rock climbing). Searching for more books in this theme please. Thank you!
Edit: sorry it seems to have posted the same question twice!
I donβt remember much else about the series, I was about 12 when I read the first one and it was around 2008 but could have come out years prior. I think the main objective was to keep it all a secret while completing βmissionsβ and the tunnels were just a minor part of the story but the only use of transportation and they could emerge across the world. There may have been a transformation of some sort like the main character having an ability to change into an animal but this bit of info led me very astray on google (things like warrior cats or eragon). It was an age appropriate book but definitely had dark undertones, it began with the character discovering these tunnels and their magical properties. At some point in the story the tunnel emerged in a sort of arena? Anyway this was one of the very first books i ever enjoyed reading for fun and would really appreciate any ideas on what it could have been! Thank you all in advance!
Edit: I think main character was a young boy, got the book new when i read it
Any and all suggestions welcomed.
Hi everyone! Iβm looking for good fiction novels, in jungle settings. Adult titles preferred, but Iβll look into any YA suggested as well. These books could be about animals, lost treasure, survival, hidden temples, etc. It can be written from human or an animalβs viewpoint.
I would prefer titles that were written in this century. I have no issues with older titles, but anytime Iβve talked to someone about this looking for suggestions Iβm always pointed towards (well known) classics. Those arenβt what Iβm looking for.
Thanks in advance for anything suggested. Iβve sorta hit a brick wall with this, and figured thereβs no better place to ask!
StarDrifter is my next game after The Drifter(a wild west adventure game) and is currently being play-tested and should be out later this year. It will slightly expand on what The Drifter has to offer but still maintain that simplistic, old school feel: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/354724/stardrifter
Thanks and take care!

Looking to get into a different non fiction type books usually read self help and need some type of thrill.
Any recommendations??
edit: so far ive got Seabiscuit and Boys in the Boat on the list - those were suggested to me when asking for sports nonfiction.
Dear <AGENT>,
Gene is an ex-boxer turned rogue-for-hire. He owns his own hydrocruiser, but works alone (except for his personal A.I.) because a flooded Earth is no place for friends. Any land, artificial or otherwise, is glutted with poverty, commercialism, and hopelessness. Until a mermaid swims into his ship's intake port.
Although intrigued by her beauty, Gene must be practical and ponders the fame and money she might bring... if she's real. So he smuggles her to an old friend--a marine biologist on an artificial island. As the investigation of "Ginger" commences, Gene and his A.I. wind up defending her from trouble more than once. When a giant silver ship attacks and destroys the station, Gene and the mermaid appear to be the only survivors.
Gene must overcome his solitary nature and face his past to deliver Ginger back home. But the race involves more than just mermaids. It includes a deviant geneticist, the sea mafia, and a device that could eat up all life on Earth.
MERM-8 is an 86,000 word action/science-fiction novel similar to Blackfish City by Sam J. Miller. I have been previously published in Electric Spec, Stupefying Stories, Kasma SF, and received an honorable mention in the 2010 Writers of the Future contest.
Hi all! Iβm looking for a book that has the qualities in the title. One book that Iβve already found is God of Vengeance by Giles Kristian, Iβm hoping to read it soon. Thanks for any recommendations!
I read this book sometime in junior high so 5 to 8 years ago for a school book report. I remember the main character either went to ballerina school or was an aspiring ballerina and her defining outfit is that she wore leg warmers.
The whole premise of the book was that she felt like an outsider and met this group of people that she had this amazing night on the town that was like her coming of age story. She also might have been Russian or a Russian immigrant. I also remember something maybe being red either the title or the cover.
Preferably something that doesn't span decades to conclude and no fantasy elements.
Tiempos Agitados (conmocion.es)
You can read the English version in the uppermost link, I've done my best to translate the book but I'm sure it has a huge room for improvement, and I'd be forever grateful if any native speaker reads it and fixes any awkward phrasing. As soon as I get some help in this matter, the English version will be uploaded for sale. Thanks.
After about a year of work, I've finally got World of Adventure live on Itch. A PbTA game focused on recreating the sense of adventure in pulp magazines, novels, Republic serials, golden age comics and pastiches of same, the game is available at: https://dave-glide.itch.io/world-of-adventure
In addition to the standard character options and Moves to drive the adventure, a chapter is presented for solo adventuring, utilizing a standard deck of cards to give prompts for developing a story based on the genre of the character you're playing (Adventures in Science, Jungle Adventure, GI Combat, and more), or you can create cross-genre stories to get that vampire/supervillain/military mash-up of your dreams. The solo play structure is loose, encouraging players to try building a threat, villain or plot as their character survives perils and makes shocking discoveries, building to a thrilling climax that caps it all off.
I've been lurking here for a while, occasionally posting, and I've been wanting to try writing something focused on solo play for a while. With characters like Doc Savage, The Spider and Tarzan, I felt like the pulps were a good place to give that a shot. Hope folks here can find something in it to enjoy. If anyone has any comments, questions or concerns, let me know here or on the project page! Thanks!
Iβm looking for a good read that has similar elements to that of The Maze Runner adventurous moments, The Hunger Games thrilling scenes, and The Mortality Doctrine technological oddities. Any ideas?
I've been exploring interactive fiction lately and found some engaging titles such as Anchorhead, but nothing that comes close to BotNS or similar. I think the genre could lend itself well to Wolfe's style. Has anyone explored this genre and found anything worthwhile?
I have read most of the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton and some of Agatha Christie's books "And then there were none" and a couple of others that I don't recall the title of. I liked them. Similar ones are welcome. Others that you think I might like welcome too. I have read a couple of Enid Blyton's Secret Seven series' books too. Looking to try different authors. Didn't like Paulo Coelho. Used to like Chetan Bhagat but got tired of the formula.
Think 127 hrs, Jurassic Park, Around the World in 80 Days, etc. Some kind of book with great writing, exciting adventures / thrills, and is partly or completely non-fiction.
Basically an adventure book that I can gain real knowledge from as well, not just pure fiction.
As I Star Wars fan I think classifying Star Wars as a science fiction is wrong. After reading some good science fiction books I realized Star Wars isnβt a science fiction at all I mean yes it takes place in space and includes concepts like space travel but at least after the original trilogy authors stopped trying to make the films somewhat scientifically accurate so theyβre only using space and stuff for concepts to tell a epic story. Saying Star Wars is science fiction because it takes place in space is like calling Lord of the rings βHistoricalβ because it has castles swords and stuff. Donβt get me wrong I think Star Wars very good as it is but itβs not a science fiction
Anyone know where I can find this? https://www.amazon.com/History-Science-Fiction-Graphic-Adventure/dp/1643379143
In the future, Earth's ocean has expanded. Humanity is scattered on artificial islands glutted with poverty, commercialism, and organized crime. But Gene makes a nice living in his hydrocruiser, hustling salvage and smuggling goods, thanks to his smarter-than-average AI assistant.
In fact, his living is so nice that the Black Lagoon mafia is suspicious and calls in his debt. Afraid they might found out how his AI operates so cleanly, Gene makes a quick escape. In the process, a mermaid swims into his ship's exhaust port.
Gene can't figure out this impossible creature. She's affectionate and sings beautifully like a traditional siren. But the little mermaid, she ain't. She needs help, but fights with every kind action, spouting a gibberish language. Gene gets frustrated, but can't renounce the fame and money she might bring... if she's real.
Fortunately, Gene knows a scientist friend on a nearby station. But the more clues they find for how a fantasy creature's biology works, the more obsessed they become with her. Is she a natural being? What other fantasy creatures might exist?
Gene figures out that she wants to return home to her daughter. He must escape the station with her, but will his scientist friend let her go? Bringing her home means choosing between humanity's remnants and a fresh start for Earth. It may cost him his ship, his friend, and his AI which has been like a "brother" to him.
Looking for a medieval set historical fiction adventure novel or series centered on a single male hero like Indiana Jones or James Bond. 15th or 16th century preferred but al title earlier is ok. Basically a guy who is tasked with a job and travels the world getting in over his head, using both his wits and his sword, etc. Nothing with Tom itch large scale armies/war etc. More pure adventure. Does this exist? I tried reading Lymond and Iβm not smart enough to understand itβ¦
Suggest me a book of an adventure or even a treasure hunt in Egypt or Africa.
Something with the time setting of the pre-1950s. (Not a dealbreaker)
EDIT: SOLVED!
I barely remember anything about the plot other than the siblings (or maybe they were friends?) discovering they were part of some prophecy or scheme that required them to go on this adventure. But I remember the covers pretty well: I think they were solid-colored with keyholes or sort of window cut out in the center that showed nature inside. I feel like the first book β possibly the only one I read, in the late β00s to early β10s β had a solid dark green cover with a circle cut out of it showing lush trees surrounding a cliff with a waterfall. Any guesses? π
Itβs been awhile since Iβve had a good read. Iβm looking for a book similar to the maze runner, the mortality doctrine series, and hunger games. Something that wonβt bore a 16 year old boy.
Not looking for stuff about pirates.
