A list of puns related to "Western Hemisphere"
We learned nothing else about this guy other than the fact that the Americas are named after him. From my little research he was the first to posit that the new world was a different landmass and not the backside of Asia. Is that really deserving of naming the continents after him? Or I'm missing something
If you are unfamiliar, the KVLY TV mast in Blanchard ND was the largest man made structure in the world until the Burj Kahlifa, Tokyo Skytree and Shanghai Tower was built. It then became the largest in the Western Hemisphere and the US
The 2nd tallest is the KRDK Mast. It is 3 feet shorter (2060 feet) and in Galesburg ND, only 8 miles away
Recently the KVLY tower lost a few feet feet since they removed the now useless UHF antenna dropping it to 1,987 so now the Galesburg tower is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. The KVLY tower is still taller than the Empire State building and One World Trade Center
Both of these towers are just north of Fargo and 8 miles from each other. I've never seen them before so I might take a drive there. It looks like a fun remote trip and the population of Galesburg and Blanchard is a whopping 127 people combined. Anyone ever see these close up?
Also they claim a tower in the Gulf of Mexico is now the tallest in the western hemisphere but since it sits on the bottom of the ocean, it's arguably not and it's certainly not accessible

Letβs sayβ¦ for whatever reason, places like Belize, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Guyana, aswell as territories like the Falklands, and Bermuda instead of staying with Britain or becoming independent, decide to join Canada as provinces or territories? Assuming all of these places do this in the 50s-70s, how might this effect the development of not only these would be nations, as well as Canada?
I have some questions about Wiccan holidays like Yule. They all seem to be related to seasonal changes. Yule is in December which is winter for america (and the other northern and western hemispheres) and represents the resetting of the year and wintery things (from my basic understanding). But where I am (Australia) that doesnβt make as much sense because December is summer. So would I still celebrate Yule in December? Iβm a bit new to this so I was just a bit confused. Iβm putting holiday dates and moon cycles in my new calendar and was about to put in the Wiccan holidays as well but thenβ¦.

I guess the more direct question might be this: When did Europeans realize that there were full-on continents over across the Atlantic?
In my light research of Columbus's voyages, it seems very possible that he would have assumed he just found islands.
I was intrigued by this book when it came out, and was thinking of reading it. It claims that humans have been living in the Americas for 100,000 years.
I found it odd, however, that it was published July 2021 and that as of November there don't seem to be any reviews of it. The publisher's webpage for it doesn't link any. Google and JSTOR turn up nothing. The book vendor Ingram is usually very thorough about citing academic reviews of the stuff they sell - and there's nothing there, either.
So, answerers of AskAnthropology: how accurate is this book? If you could point me in the direction of a review, I'd be most grateful; if you would share your expertise here, I'd be most appreciative. Thank you!
