What is The Ideal Fine Bubble Size For Water Aeration?
Hello, I'm attempting to design my first aquaponics garden and in the various books I've read oxygen levels in water play a import in role in plant development. According to the Wikipedia article I've read regarding "fine bubble diffusers" this seams to be a hotly debated topic but the content is different. The article seems to focus on sewage treatment and the differing opinions seem centered around the bubbles' ability to properly rise and aerate the water due to the human waste in the water. Since I will be using a mineral salt based fertilizer this will not be a problem which means that the micro sized bubbles will presumably have a higher performance in my situation than in a sewage tank. With that being the case, what would be the ideal size bubble for maximum aeration? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

I just repotted into coco coir because it was in a potting mix that held a lot of water and had no aeration. Now itβs limp and the vines are shriveled. The roots look fine though. What is going on ??

5 gal. progress. I know some were worried about condition of tank, I acquired from my son. Got some aeration, and filtration, a cleaning, and filled with rain water to neutralize the ph and ammonia. Gotta vacuum the rocks still. Bell siphon is on its way!

I received a Hoya Nicholsoniae New Guinea Ghost , essentially in just soil/coir with no aeration and the leaves were quite soft so I moved it to water. Will this be okay until I plant it in pon? It was a lot of money and I'm scared of killing it.

We are purchasing a property with a beautiful 1 acre pond. The land around was used for farming before and the water from the farm land was draining into the pond that includes pesticides from the farm. There is no aeration in the pond currently. Any thoughts on cleaning the pond ? No visible algae.

Question about aeration in water without a pump or electricity
Hi Y'all,
Last summer I turned one of my railing planters into a hydroponics garden and it worked out really well. I had great yields. One of the issues with my setup was that my basil plants started to rot at the base of the plant in the later parts of their lifecycle. This made the plant unstable at the base. I chalked it up as a lack of oxygen in the water.
While I did add water and nutrients a few times a week there was no air pump in this set up. The reason being my apartment balcony doesn't have an electrical outlet outside.
My question is what can I do to aerate the water without a pump or the use of electricity? Does something as simple as a few snorkels work? My other thought is plants that naturally aerate water like in ponds.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Whats wrong with my ficus elastica? I use a soil meter and only water when the meter indicates dry. I also repotted this plant in a terracotta pot with a lot of pearlite, to improve aeration and drainage. It sits on a south facing window with plenty of indirect light (sheer curtains).

Aeration of clean water changed its color to yellowish
Hi there. We have recently installed evaporator for treating the wastewater(MVR based). Condensate TDS came out to be less than 30 ppm but had very foul smell. in order to eliminate odour, we tried aerating the condensate but its colour changed to yellowish which is what we have not anticipated. Can anyone tell me the reason why it did occur? What are other cheap alternatives to remove the bad odour, which according to our estimates is due to high COD content in wastewater(35000 ppm).
Here's the important link that shows the picture of condensate and videos of condensate when it is exposed to aeration?

FYI:- this wastewater was generated from yeast based bio-methanation process

Air stone in the first six inches of water enough aeration for a 3.5 gallon tank?
Iβve got a guppy in labor that my male guppies werenβt leaving alone. I netted the first 4 fry and the mom and transferred them to a 3.5 gal cylinder vase I just had plants and some bladder snails in. The vase has the same water parameters and temp as her original so I figured it would be more peaceful for her until sheβs done giving birth, then Iβd transfer her back to her home tank and let the babies grow in the vase until theyβre big enough to not get eaten.
I was worried about aeration so Iβve got an air stone in, but I only have enough tubing for it to sit in the top 6 inches of water (the water collum is about 20 inches). Is this enough to provide oxygen for the entire tank temporarily or do I need to buy some longer hose?
I was originally planning on letting the babies fend for themselves in my main planted tank, but I had a change of heart at the last minute. Now I plan to keep a few and give the others away.
Thanks in advance!

Upgraded crabitat! They have a natural pool to submerge in and a small salt water dish they can also get in. Just finished building it so the water is cloudy but itβll clear up. Does it matter if the water is not clear? Distilled water and have aeration in it to keep it from getting stagnant

Any advice for mollies? I just got 3, 1 died 2nd day and the other 2 are very active and even come up to my hand. I have a UV light, aeration, + live plants so my water condition is good. I love my mollies so much I really dont want to see them die. Should I use a little salt just as a precaution?

How much to water before aeration?
Located in 7B (Greensboro, NC) and it has not rained substantially in over a month. Ground is bone dry. Planning on getting down 1/2 inch of water the morning/day before I aerate. Is this enough?
