A list of puns related to "Tightwad"
Checked out The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczn from my library yesterday. Itβs so awesome! Based off an actual newsletter she published from 1990-96, the book is filled with thrifty tips and tricks. A few might be a bit dated due to the age of the book but otherwise it is really helpful.
Is anyone else having completely tipless nights lately??? My weekend sucked 2/13 rides tipped.
Context: Iβve been stuck in a hotel for the last month for training before moving north for the job and a new apartment. By the time Iβll have moved into my apartment, I will have spent 5 & 1/2 weeks in hotels.
But big chain hotels can fuck right off with their shitty WiFi practices. The WiFi here disconnects every hour or sooner. Thank god I havenβt been asked to work βfrom homeβ yet, because while Iβm at this hotel, thatβs just not happening.
Big chain hotels, seriously, just make it a WoFi password you have to re input at minimum every 24 hours. Anything less is bullshit.
Hello, recently got married and expecting a child. My wife already has a child and is $70k in debt. I have my finances in order, zero debt besides my mortgage and $60k savings/investments. I have easily convinced her of our need to change our spending habits. For years I squandered most of my savings on expensive computers, mountain bikes, watches, etc. It wasn't an issue being single. But now with children, a house and trying to help my wife get out of debt, the urgency to save has increased.
I have read some good books like Millionaire Next Door and Random Walk on Wall Street. I know what needs to be done for the most part.
My main question is, should I sell some of my expensive crap for a loss, or at this point do I just keep it and enjoy it while it lasts? For example, I got married in a $450 Zelos wrist watch. But I have other nice, cheaper watches. Sell or keep? Will keeping it perpetuate my old spending tendencies?
Howard Hughes collected all his excreta in jars, which he stored in jars in his hotel room. He knew the value of muck..
I need a new rig for Cyberpunk 2077 but Iβm broke, so whatβs a guy to do? Engage in the shrewdest of negotiating and go to the sketchiest of lengths to build the maximally awesome PC wile spending as little money as possible.
This is story of the most ridiculous of parts buying adventures and deal finding. The result will, I hope, be a rig capable of playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 3440x1440@60 on high to ultra settings. Some of what follows are flashbacks to previous purchases made in the last 18 months since those are the only parts being carried forward on this new build.
First things first, the rig Iβm running now. Itβs not terrible. It isnβt great either. Itβs a x370 gaming-k5 with a ryzen 1600 (non-af), 32gb gskill 3200 cl16 (more on that in an upcoming installment), an oem 512gb nvme from some laptop that a client spilled Starbucks into, an intel dc s3610 ssd I got for free, a gtx 970 from my previous pc, an rm1000 psu (overkill!!!!), a xonar stx sound card, and a Corsair carbide 600Q case.
The case is a mess. My cable management is embarrassing. There is dust everywhere. Itβs all just ugh. So letβs rip it apart.
First, I need to put the existing build in a case so I can continue to use it. For that I will need a case and a psu. A bit of Facebook marketplace shopping turned up a cx430 and an nzxt s340 case for $25 and $30 respectively. Driving a 45 mile loop to get the parts my first stop was near a nicer part of Houston and the guy I bought it from was cool. The psu on the other hand was decidedly not in a nice part of town and it was getting dark out. It was a rough enough neighborhood that I decided to text a buddy and tell him if I didnβt text him back in 15 minutes to call 911 and tell them my location. 10 minutes later I had a $25 dollar psu that was missing a few screws. Definitely not new like advertised but I couldnβt argue with the price and I had screws at home. I almost forgot to text my friend back and was about 3 minutes outbound before I remembered. Once home I replaced the missing screws. Tested the psu voltage. Everything seemed to be working so I called it a night.
Now itβs time to transplant the old guys into the new case. It went mostly smoothly other than the 45 minutes of swearing at having cross threaded one of the screws holding the mobo to the standoffs in the old case. It stripped the screw head right out when I tried to remove it. One pair of destroyed long reach heliostats later and the x370 motherboard was out. A quic
... keep reading on reddit β‘Lifelong Berkeley resident and Cal fan, with the exception of 4 years at a Tennessee liberal arts college. Never once have I been up on the hill, as Iβve always had a dad with season tickets. Iβm considering going up on tightwad hill to watch this season. Is anyone else planning on doing so? Do you think it will be safe/allowed?
Go Bears! 7 days until kickoff.
Hello fellow frugalists. Wanted to get your take on this book. I ordered it yesterday. Would like to know if you think it's worthy of a good read, or if it's more of a satirical tone.
EDIT: Much appreciated for the input, everyone. I'm looking forward to reading the book now!
