Tetanus Toxoid Puns

Basically what the title says. So she doesn't want to get the anti-rabies because our dog does not have rabies. Are there any chance that she will get rabies? If yes I will do everything I can to convince her to get the anti-rabies.

It was a small cut, but still it bled so we encourage her to get the shots but she denies she needs it.

I don't understand how giving the toxoid itself can produce an immune response strong enough, and do it quickly enough, to protect someone form getting tetanus after they've already been exposed (ie gotten a cut). Wouldn't it be more important to give the tetanus immune globulin, which provides passive immunity and binds the free toxins.

Hello, I am wondering what vaccines should one provide evidence of, if they are adult. On the USCIS website, it says:

• Mumps
• Measles
• Rubella
• Polio
• Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
• Pertussis
• Haemophilus influenzae type B
• Hepatitis B
• COVID-19
• Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices

But then, "**Q. Where can I find information about vaccinations in general?**A.  CDC publishes information about vaccinations in general and information about the vaccine requirements for immigration purposes at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has specific criteria to determine which vaccines people applying for adjustment of status for US permanent residence (hereafter referred to as applicants) are required to show proof of having received.

The criteria are as follows:

1. The vaccine must be an age-appropriate vaccine, as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for the general US population

Now here in this table, Polio, rota, hepatatis, MenACWY are not 'age appropriate' for 18-64 years. So, being in the 18-64 age group, do I need to have a proof of Polio for example. In reality I have received all of them, plus many others, because they were mandatory when I was a child, but vax records from my childhood are lost. I just need to know which are really necessary (e.g. MMR is clearly necessary) and only get those. I called some certified surgeons and they all want to charge $500+ for the exam with vaccines. Some even asked $1000. I don't want to pay for vaccines that are unnecessary. Thank you

For weeks now these crazed republicans and antivaxxers have been foaming at the mouth and pushing the narrative that vaccine mandates are this brand new concept that is brand new to the US, that, of course, is a garbage argument. The example of vaccine mandates in schools and colleges has already been given multiple times. However, another example that isn't being used enough is vaccine mandates for immigration purposes. My wife and I are both immigrants, when were in the process of getting our green cards (during the Trump admin, btw! Way before covid) we had to get vaccinated against a whole bunch of things, including the seasonal flu. I really don't understand why this example isn't being given more - this is literally a vaccine mandate from the federal government that existed for ages. After all, it's the same people who are saying that immigrants are bringing all sorts of diseases into the US.

So I just stepped on a rusty nail in the dirt without much bleeding but i had my last tetanus shot about 5 and a half years ago. Am I at risk?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Medical history -

• No drugs/smoking/alcohol.
• History of dyshidrosis-like rash on hands one year ago from undiagnosed condition.
• Rash resolved on it's own after multi-vitamin and vitamin-C supplementation.
• Mild allergy to brinjals and prawns.
• No other history of allergy.
• No history of migraines / headaches.
• No hypertension.

Recent history -

• 4 jabs of rabies vaccine - on doctors advice due to being the same room with a bat (encounter on 3rd June, vaxxed16th-30th June Chirorab PCECV) - no known contact/bites - was fully awake and working on computer.
• Tetanus toxoid booster due to minor cut (23rd July).
• Jabbed with Covishield (AstraZeneca ChAd0x) 1st dose (11 Aug).

Medications -

• Multivitamin Zincovit
• Vitamin C 500 mg

Symptoms -

Issues resembling an allergy and headache more than two weeks since AZ vaccinations.

• Ice-pick headache, tightness/fullness in head, increases when waking up or going to sleep. Transient and moderate and effects different parts of the head.
• Itchy, red, hives-like rash on both hands, arms, face, and torso. Swollen fingers and feeling of intense itching within the fingers. Swollen lips and areas on forehead, cheek & eyebrows. Rash reduces in intensity after few hours of waking up. Comes back worse the next day.

Details -

Got my first shot of AstraZeneca (Covishield) on 11th Aug at 12:00 afternoon. Had the usual side-effects - fever, malaise, sporadic ice-pick headaches - for the next two days, which went away on taking Paracetamol tab.

Since the third day after the jab (14 Aug), I have been experiencing a feeling of constant tightness and pressure in my head, which resolves for couple of hours at times, but comes back with varying intensity. I have never had a headache before in my entire life.

On doctors advice, I did CBC & D-Dimer (twice). No remarkable irregularities could be found. ESR was 19. No fever or any parasthaesias.

1. Aug 17 (7 days after the jab). Platelet count and D-dimer came back fine (3.17 platelets - ref range 1.5-4.0).However the relative lymphocyte was raised at 50% (ref. range 20-40%), although absolute WBC count was okay (5200, ref range 4000-10000).
2. Aug 25 (15 days after jab). Platelet count was little lower but still within acceptable range (2.83 platelets - ref range 1.5 - 4.0).D-dimer was negative and the relative lymphocytes had resolved (37%, ref. range 20-4

This might get personal.

I am pro vaccine, I believe people should be immunized to protect the greater population from harmful diseases as well as themselves.

My mother is an odd case being she believes in the necessity of vaccines as I do, but with her It gets a bit trickier having a kid, (my brother) with autism.

Now the story for this is a bit tricky in my mind because it isn't as typical as one would expect.

Basically her story is my brother was a normal baby, easy pregnancy, responsive, audible ect. (fun fact: in comparison, being the first born, I almost died lol)

This went on for a few months, then a loose quote from her is "he recieved around 5 shots in the span of 1 week and his behavior did a complete 180."

"Communication" was non existent, he was less responsive and a few weeks later he was diagnosed with Low functioning autism.

Now i'd like to say i'm fairly educated when it comes to this subject. I've seen the countless articles and fact checks, but I couldn't give her an answer as to why this happened, and i'm still grappling with it now.

(Don't crucify me) The conversation ended when I said it was plausible that somehow the vaccines altered my brother's brain chemistry enough to cause something like this. This begs the question though, was it my brother's brain chemistry to begin with, just the vaccines or a combination of both. It's impossible to find out.

Ultimately it comes down to this, is it foolish to think vaccines could alter brain chemistry in ways like this (not just autism but a fundamental chemical change) Or is this just a simple case of correlation is not causation.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

The influenza vaccine is different from year to year, to match the predicted circulating strains. Is that unique to influenza or are any other vaccines updated in a similar way? For example if I get a tetanus booster this year, is the toxoid different than the one in the booster shot I had ten years ago?

If vaccines do get updated, how often does it happen? If not, how high is the risk that a pathogen will mutate to evade the acquired immunity?

It really does, I swear!
