Despite recent news about Google and IMAX pulling the plug on a joint venture to build a line of VR cameras for filmmakers, the interest in VR cinema is still going strong. Danish director Susanne Bier, president of the jury for the Venice Virtual Reality section shares her insight on a recent interview with Variety. She says, βjumped at the opportunity to be president of the jury because I feel VR is one of the most innovative areas of not just cinema, but art in general, and its potential for extreme identification makes it an intriguing vehicle for everything from documentaries to horror.β And I think we can totally relate with this other statement: βVR headsets can be cumbersome, but there was a time when a cell phone weighed several pounds, and now itβs basically an extension of our fingers.β
