A list of puns related to "St. Brigid"
The passage from Freeman reads:
>There was a certain young and beautiful nun who had taken a vow of virginity, but by human weakness had given in to youthful desire and slept with a man. She became pregnant and her womb began to swell. She came to Brigid to seek her forgiveness and help. Drawing on the potent strength of her matchless faith, holy Brigid blessed the young woman so that the fetus disappeared and she became a virgin again.
It's also interesting to note that the story doesn't shame the nun for having an affair. While it's treated as a sin, the nun is motivated by "human weakness" and "youthful desire," rather than being portrayed negatively. Brigid also readily forgives the nun and performs the miracle, making the fetus "disappear." If a venerated saint such as Brigid was said to perform a miracle similar to an abortion, how would women seeking abortions be viewed at the time? Would nuns seeking abortions be treated any differently than other women?
Every single Friday, what he used to do was buy a big hot loaf of bread, butter some up and hand some out to all of us. Then, he would tell us a story about his travels in Italy, Specifically Lake Garda.
I'm in my 20's now but to hear he passed away has really hit me. I remember the many lessons he gave. I remember he straightened my tie at my confirmation. I remember it all still.
RIP Mr. Kiernan. You taught us kids that it's not about the medals or the glory, it's about the will to keep going.
Anyone know where I could buy a St Brigid's Cross in Galway? I know there are some available online for 15e+, looking for something maybe a bit cheaper
Thanks
Hello! Iβm a little confused here. Why would an Irish goddess be renamed as a Catholic saint? Genuinely confused on this since the church denounces paganism.
Happy St Brigidβs Day to you all! Today, the 1st of February, is the feast day of St Brigid, one of the patron saints of Ireland (along with St Patrick and St Columba). She is known to have established several monasteries of nunβs in Ireland and understood to have performed many miracles. Her feast day also traditionally marks the beginning of spring here in Ireland. To celebrate this day, we usually create a St Brigidβs cross out of rushes like in the video Iβve linked. St Brigidβs Cross
This Irish Saint was my confirmation Saint.
But I just recently found out that there is speculation about whether she ever existed or if sheβs just a Christianization of a pagan goddess. One of the products of unofficially appointed bishops/local communities making saints of possibly fake people way back when, one of the saints who was questioned and kind of discarded or something when the pope in 1969 looked over lots of saints appointed during those times. (I may misunderstand some of this).
Do any of you know whether she is real, or if we just canβt know? And if she isnβt/we canβt know, how would that affect who my confirmation Saint is? Or how would it affect my confirmation (it doesnβt disqualify it of course, but still). Is there a different Saint who is connected to me through my confirmation or is it just no one?
Thanks. :)
With schools being closed across the country, there won't be any primary school children to make her cross.
Hello everyone,
My wife and I went for a walk yesterday and found a kitten crying and hidding in a bush by the St. Brigid School in Rockliffe yesterday.
We want to try and reunite it with its owner. So if you know they owner of this cat DM me with specific details of what the cat looks like and the approximate age so I can verify this is your cat. I know it's not a full proof plan but the specific details might be able to help confirm it.
If you have pictures of the kitten that would help. I want to make sure I bring it back to their right family.
Thank you,
