Hey all, I recently got a copy of the Deep Magic book by Kobold Press, and showed it too a friend who was interested in playing a cleric, because there are 16 new Cleric Domains in it. My friend took a few pictures of it but said that our DM might not be a fan of using "Not official things"

But I noticed when looking up the Kobold Press Alkemancer, that all the Kobold Press stuff is on the 5E SRD site, so is it official or not official?

Anyone have ideas about how this is not an Investigative Ability? We don't make tests to influence people, but this seems exactly like an an interpersonal ability.

My purpose is that I'm designing a pirate-themed campaign and I'm trying to figure out where to put this.

Another bare bones idea of a system. What do we think? Does it have potential?

Untitled SRD

• Players have Stealth, Perception, Agility, Charm, Endurance, Strength (SPACES), or some other stat block that makes sense for the setting. At the start of each session, players assign the array 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
• When success is not certain, and failure is interesting, roll against the relevant stat. Roll equal or under to succeed. Roll your stat exactly for a critical success.
• More challenging tasks are loosely associated with bigger dice (d10, d12 and d20), easier ones with smaller dice (d4, d6, d8). But luck and the character's state of mind play a big role in whether a task is challenging.
• When the roll comes from something you chose to do, you choose what die to roll. When the roll comes from something you're reacting to, the GM tells you what to roll.
• Whether you succeed or fail, reset your stat to the value you rolled.
• Once per session you may Fix one stat. It won't change again throughout the session.
• Failure should always have consequences. If it fits the game, introduce other scores such as Hit Points, Innocence, Sanity, Reputation, etc., to inflict damage on.

Thoughts about it so far ...

• Could remove d4s and d20s or save them for special occasions? For some reason reluctant to.
• Could explore multiple dice on an ability check.
• Maybe each player chooses a specialism, that always resets to die roll+2.
• Or maybe each player chooses a specialism. On those rolls, roll two dice of the same kind. Check against the lower, set your score to the higher.
• Players working together - maybe they each roll and can swap their rolls as desired?
• Possible alteration might be to remove "hard tasks are loosely associated with bigger dice" and just make it "roll what you want or are told to roll ..."
• Very intriguing variation: roll over for success, low stats are 'good.'
• Use cases: Games with a zany, out-of-control, slapsticky vibe (Grant Hewitt-esque); games where players are very mortal and frail and in over their heads (Trophy Dark-esque); games where players really are extremely volatile for some reason (perhaps strong social and emotional themes, or perhaps something more metaphysical / ontological); games with a lot of bad luck and bungling in the genre DNA (Fiasco-esque).

Hiya everyone!

So I'm working on a homebrew campaign setting with anthro animals in it.

Anyways, working on a homebrew with anthro animals in it. Now, I know if something's in the SRD, it's up for grabs in terms of publishing your own thing, and if it's not in the SRD, it's off-limits.

But what if I wanted to use Firebolt still? Would it be acceptable to change the name, and then a couple of stats (say the amount of damage it does, or in-world what the spell's doing exactly)?

It's something that's come up largely when making races. For example, I have Squirrels, which use the Gnome's mechanics and stats. Rock Gnomes (re-named the "Ochus Squirrel") are in the SRD, but Forest Gnomes are not. Currently, I've renamed the subrace the Ganis Squirrel, they get +1 Wis, proficiency with Stealth, and the Illusionist feature. Also, I still need to work on the lore side of things, but similar to Forest Gnomes, the Ganis Squirrel would gravitate towards forests. But would that work? Or would Wizards still have cause to sue me into oblivion?

Another example I could give would be Wombats - which replaces Dwarves. Hill Dwarves are in the SRD, but Mountain Dwarves are not. For my setting, the Mountain Dwarf might get replaced by the Frons Wombat, which gets Str and Cons +1, and proficiency with Light Armor & Shields. Similiar to DnD, they'd be more mountain-based Wombats, but the nuts and bolts of the lore will be different.

I've also considered this same question for the different subclasses as well, but I haven't gotten that far yet, so I have no examples.
