My last harvest for the season before winter! Time to collect some leaves and make leaf mould to amend soil structure and biology!

Does good soil structure protect against compression?
Goo soil structure being good aeration, right balance of water drainage and retention, etc. Do these factors protect the soil from compression from rain, animal traffic, heavy machinery, etc.? Or is it still susceptible? What other factors can contribute?

Backyard slime mold! First spotted yesterday as numerous discrete creamy-colored fruiting bodies; today the fruiting bodies have turned black and merged together. A few yellow mucoid structures have also appeared. Northern California, growing on damp soil/blades of grass.

Question about soil structure. Can adding too much drainage have the opposite affect? My plants are all in cactus soil with PLENTY of pumice/perlite. Only water when dry. Yet it takes DAYS to dry out. Help!

Newfoundout, Ontario: 1858, thirteen families were forced settled along the βcolonization roadβ. My monstera adansonii has dropped loads of its lower/inner leaves. It's time to propagate, but should I just start a new pot full of props and forgo this established root & stem structure? Or is it worth planting them back in this soil alongside leafless stems?

Last year I tried a '3 sisters planting' for the first time. It's a traditional first nations way of planting where you grow beans to fix nitrogen in the soil, squash as a ground cover, and corn as a structure for the squash and beans to climb. This was our harvest! Highly reccomend

Why donβt the Egyptian pyramids, or any ancient monolithic structure, sink? Wouldnβt the shifting soil, erosion, weight, etc cause them to?
Basically the caption - I was on a walk today and wondered why donβt they sink? Their weight is massive and surely, despite their large area the ground pressure is high enough to cause a noticeable amount of depression, but Iβve never heard anything about it. Why doesnβt this happen?

Ants use soil physics to excavate metre-long tunnels that last decades. The secrets of these impressive architectural structures are being revealed by three-dimensional X-ray imaging and computer simulations, and could be used to develop robotic mining machines.

How long does soil structure take to form?
We put our (pet) pigs onto a couple of patches of land and they've done an outstanding job weeding, clearing and ahem, fertilising the soil
Anywho. Some spots got heavily turned over and pretty much turned into muddy goo. The areas have been reseeded with grass and a herbal ley mix.
Does anyone know how long it takes for structure to return to the soil? And for a decent sward to form? Because although the grass is long and lush, the soil is still like putty.

Retaining walls can be required too many aspects whether you plan a concrete retaining wall in a garden or a tall structure to protect against soil from getting eroded. Ambient Civil has been in the construction sector for more than 2 decades and has handled a number of tricky sites & tough project.
