A list of puns related to "Tillage"
having a hard time finding an answer. is there a difference between the affects of the stubble (shallow cultivated) and regular cultivated land aside from rocks? does the stubble act as a fertilizer?
I have clay soil with mostly nothing growing in it (one area has sad looking grass still). I live in zone 9b wirh a very dry climate (CA drought) and my soil is clay and considering how dead it is I have no idea how much nitrogen is in it. How do I plant and treat daikon radish to give it the best chance to grow deeply? Do I just put the seeds in small holes and water every few days? Will they grow ok in shaded areas? Do I need to add nitrogen? Considering I won't have a frost that kills the daikon and I shouldn't harvest or I'm removing bio material what should I do at the end of the growing season? Just make sure they don't reseed?
My standard tillage routine in SW Minnesota is to rip bean stubble after harvest and then use a field cultivator before corn planting. Just a reduced tillage set up as we no-till drill the soybeans in.
I have some erosion problems on one farm, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with waiting until early spring to rip bean stubble then cultivate the field for corn right before planting? I have one neighbor that says to skip out on ripping the bean stubble all together and just use the cultivator on the bean stubble.
Tillage practices are my weakness being a beginning farmer, just trying to get a better understanding of what works in the Mid West.
Thanks!
What happens to carbon and nitrogen pools after 40 years of conservation tillage on sandy soils? Clemson University and USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists discovered a lot about carbon, nitrogen, and microbial communities. Can someone give me the low down on tillage or oilseed radish. Iβm looking to expand my garden next year, as well as till deeper to grow longer carrots(this years carrots are looking short and fat). Iβm wondering if I should get some oilseed radish and plant in the next few weeks in preparation for next year? Zone 4b so winter is coming. But Iβve always been interested and Johnny seed has 1lb of oilseed radish for $9. I think Iβd like to try it out. Iβm not finding much information though.
Thanks all!
This is a list of my most wanted but I will consider almost anything.
